  1. Politics in the 90's played a great deal in delaying the entry into service of Eurofighter. It's well known that Germany was looking to free-up funds for the expensive process of re-unification and with people believing the Cold War was won there was little need for an expensive dog-fighter to patrol the West German Border. The Germans played around with trying to alter the program and remove costs. They started looking at an 'EFA-lite' which was single-engine and without the DASS and used a standard APG-65 (Is that what went on the F-4F upgrade?) radar. All these wranglings and about-turn
  2. From people in the know: "I heard that on approach the nose gear didn't extend but main mounts did. Approach was aborted some manoeuvres were tried to get the nose wheel to extend but were unsucessful. Aircraft landed, using just aerodynamic braking, came to a stop on main mounts and nose. The pilot vacated normally." I suspect no cable was taken as that would have brought the aircraft to a halt on its nose rather sooner and harder than may have been wished for. By all accounts the pilot did a tick vg job. Buzz is it will never fly again. wallache
  3. Thanks for your reply guys, I really appreciate your help. The conversion I have contains a solid resin fuselage and only includes 5 parts; a vac form canopy , a tail, an exhaust, the complete fuselage and the intake( which I appear to have lost). I belive it may have come from True-Details. It was made for the Airfix A-7E, which I think is no longer available but would not be hard to graft onto any other A-7E kit. There is a fair bit of work involved as it's a somewhat 'agricultural' piece of moulding. Does anyone know who produces decals for VAQ-34? Thanks again, Wallache
  4. That is great Carbine, thanks again for your help! Wallache
  5. Thanks for your replies guys, especially Carbine as those details will help me build my own replica of his Hurricane. Cheers Wallache
  6. Hi, Just found what appears to be an old resin TA-7 Corsair Conversion in 1/72 in an old box of kits (don't you just love stumbling across stuff you'd forgotten you'd bought!) Whilst it's a bit of a ropey bag of bits I reckon it could be knocked up into a semi-plausible kit with some TLC. However I will need some help so can anyone: a. Tell me the likely original source of the conversion kit, b. Tell me what 1/72 nd Corsair it's supposed to be mated too, and c. Remind me what was the Electronic Aggressor Squadron the US Navy used to have back in the eighties IIRC which used these aircra
  7. Hi, Having read Sgt Ray Holmes recent Obituary I have decided to make a model of his Hurricane from that fateful day. For those unaware Sgt Holmes was the chap who attacked a Dornier that was heading for Buckingham Palace. Having spent his ammunition on attacking 2 German Bombers he took the decsion to ram the Dornier and managed to slice off it's tail and send it crashing into the forecourt of Victoria Station. Anyway my question is this; does anyone produce decals for his Hurricane or have the necesarry details for his particular Hurri so that I may build a 1/48th replica? Thanks for a
  8. How old is that photo? It looks more like the ARTF scheme that Gr.4s wore for GW2. As the F3 Fleet is starting to wear darker greys I would find it strange that the Muds would chose to goto lighter greys. Wallache
  9. Thanks for your replies guys. Jackman - thanks for the link, I ended up purchasing 5! I plan to build more F3s and until someone replaces the Airfix Kit I figured I would be needing more (the Airfix canopy is a hangover from the old Snapfix era). Tim - Nice tremblers F3! You have managed an above average result from a below average kit! peebeep - I agree with you, the Matchbox Lightning has the best canopy but getting hold of one of the kits is hard. And yes I would be interested in hearing about 'crash-moulding' my own. It's definetly time for a definitive 1/72 Lightning, I had heard r
  10. Hi guys, I need some help! I've been building Lightnings at the moment; 2 x Airfix F.3 plus 1 x Revell (Frog?) F.6. Now, don't get me started on the kits, they are woeful, however I have a bigger problem as the canopies for all 3 have been smashed by clumsy workmen. Does anyone know where / how I could produce some replacements? Thanks Wallache P.S. Someone produce a decent 1/72 Lightning, please!
