  1. There is something wonky with the BuNo for the first tanker capable A3D-2. In this case, no answer is better than a "yes, go for it" I found a photo in Ginter of an A3D-2 with the temporary tanker package, with VAH-1, BuNo 138932. Since that is earlier than my plan of building 138976 as an A3D-2, I am alright with building a VAH-9, BuNo 138976 with the early nose, late tail, and temporary tanker package. (nose, tail and tanker package confirmed on another A3D-2 of that unit) If no one can tell me "if they did", then there is no one to say "that t
  2. yes,,,,,,RF-8s and some early F-8A-D and H, K, L that Furball didn't cover Possiblilties include RF-8A USN and USMC , VFP and VCP, 61, 62 and 63, no fins or scoops (SS, GA, PP and RM tail codes) RF-8A USMC with fins RF-8G after upgrade, with fins, but no rear scoops RF-8G after upgrade, and after SLEP, with Scoops I have three 1/72 RF-8 conversions,,,,,,,,but only one set of Wolfpak (US company) decals for one RF-8G VF-91 doesn't have decals VF-13 needs correct ones, either in the early AK days, or the F-8H AJ day
  3. ouch, RCAFFAN now I am going to be nervous every time at the NATS that I hear anyone say "eh?" (which by the way, is NOT just a Canadian thing,,,,,,we said it all the time in Wisconsin Province, donchaknow)
  4. "a lock of hair of the person to be banned" cool, I just found out that I am "ban-proof", lol Having met a few others from ARC, there is a group of us in that same plight.
  5. I've been waiting for years and years now for that company to actually do what should be their flagship product. I don't care what scale,,,,I reallllly want a model of a Steel Beach. I wonder if he ever considered that he chose a name that implies "lying around doing nothing?"
  6. The Ignore function doesn't actually work on forums. If I decide to "have a go" at Gerry and two of you have me on ignore because of that,,,,,,you would still see half or more of my posts anyway. That is because of the Quote feature. Or the answers in outrage that follow my ignored post by you that says "how dare you say that about Norwegians?",,,,,,when you don't even know what I did say in the blocked post about my ancestors. This is just me,,,,,,,but, if I got banned here,,,,,,and a couple of years went by,,,,,,,,I wouldn't even think that
  7. Fair enough, your company isn't named "Fury decals, inc", after all. These 8 schemes give us plenty to build or to decal-bash with Sword's to give us numbers and BuNo bits to make our own FJ-3M models if we want them. I am thankful that we have those kits, and these decals to build with. These two sheets make it the 9th and 10th time you have hit my area of interest with decal sheets, so far. That is pretty darned good considering how narrow my subject really is overall.
  8. I have only found bombs and rockets on the correct BuNos during the tests of the bombs, single HVARs, and rocket pods on the pylons. All of the squadron Bombers that I have found photos of only show the two tanks, without the other 4 pylons,,,,,,,,,or they show them after they got retrofitted to be FJ-3M. Not definitive I know,,,,,,some guy might have 40 pictures of those airframes carrying bombs in squadron markings. I just only have them in pictures as Gunfighters or Missile Fighters. Since they could be configured as bombers,,,,,,,,I am going
  9. Yeah, Solo,,,,,,,,and if someone actually sees your model and says "that plumbing is wrong on your model",,,,,,,,,,you can just ask him for pictures for the next build. (or "here's a napkin, please sketch that out for me" lol)
  10. Sharp BuNo readers will see that we now have three decal options available for building the FJ-3 Bombers. The FJ-3 kit already had one, the VF-21 decals. Now, sheet one from Caracal gives us another, 139255 of VF-142, and sheet two has 139261 of VF-173. FJ-3 bomb capable aircraft were those starting with 136118 and up to 141363, with FJ-3M being the 80 aircraft from 141364 and up. (this is "as built", not counting those that got FJ-3M wiring later in a retrofit) Now that the decals are available,,,,it is time for me to get a few more Sword kits. (it takes tw
  11. No, he doesn't. I always check his stuff before asking. He does list the BuNo of the first Tanker capable A-3B, though.
  12. A lot of people think that "a Tanker is a KA-3B or EKA-3B" But the Temp package was used on the A3D-2, and there wasn't a tanker designation in the A3D time period. (also, as I said, they used different parts for the two types)
  13. yes, the aircraft with one Black and one Gray tail letter is overall Light Gray 16440. Funny, you can almost see the Gray "drip" down the paint scheme when you look at the photos. Darren's photo shows one of the last shots with the NE tail code, and the Gray demarcation is high on the fuselage, then Fred's photo is early in the NM days, and you can see how far down the fuselage the Gray reaches,,,,,,,,,then the overall Light Gray with the two color Tail Code. (VA-25 seems to have progressed through the same as VA-113 did,,,,,which makes sense since they were "sister squ
  14. Cool, I was going to make masks and fool around with a lot of work to do VF-73 and VF-173. Now, I can just use Caracal decals for those two. I'll order both sheets at the same time though. You're keeping 1/72 scale fun for me. Your sheets are pretty darned close to "nailing it" as far as my needs go, L-204 was one of my planned builds, and I had planned on AD-207 for the other, and can easily change my plans and do AD-204 instead.
  15. I'm curious, does the decal sheet have one black letter and one gray? If so, that would match the Camo & Markings photo of an overall Gray aircraft that I was talking about. (one assumption is that Fred's photo was from just before the C & M photo, or one of those "mixed schemes in the unit" deals that happened from time to time)
  16. lol, John or the A-6 series from the parent company
  17. one was a "temporary tanker package" and the other was a "permanent tanker mod" because of that, they had different fuel capacities
  18. Just don't use Scalemates as a store. Instead, use it as a "master list" of parts that were ever available. Then look at your vendor's websites for the things you want to find. What I do is look at Scalemates, find the item, then look at Hannants to see if it is currently available. Sometimes a US store has it, but, more often it is the stores in other countries that has the part actually in stock. (All of them can't stock all of everything, after all)
  19. Lay an index card from wing tip to wing tip,,,,,,,you should see the 1.5% that way. The lines are at the glove, because that is the hinge point.
  20. I see this just a bit differently than Jeffrey does. I am thinking about all the containers that will contain Tomcats in the near future. In 1/48th, and now another 1/72. Since there will be so many companies with Tomcats out there, and so many total Tomcat models for sale at the same time, the prices will have to stay more in line with each other, and the older toolings will start showing up for sale from stashes as people "upgrade their collection." Also, the more companies filling the shipping containers, the more chances there are to Kit-Bash the kits in
  21. I did have the dates slightly wrong. All of this was in the early eighties to mid eighties. NM was all around the country, with Independence on the fuselage,,,,,but Indy went into the yard for a SLEP instead of the planned deployment. When she came out, NM was disestablished already.
  22. I'm not working on a KA-3B, though. Thanks for posting that link. That looks useful for all three models.
  23. Yes, you guessed it,,,,,one of the subsets in my collection is going to be the Tankers used by the Navy. Well,,,,,,except the A3J/A-5A, that is,,,,,,but otherwise from the A-1J with 400 gallon tanks up to and including the KA-6D with 400 gallon and the D-704 under it, and the A-6E with the D-704. I will stop before the Viking and Hornet (not my collection's era), and the A3J won't get done until I turn about 70 or so, lol.
  24. I want to build a full set of Skywarrior tankers. The KA-3B and EKA-3B are easy. But, to help the A-3B (or A3D-2) with Tanker Package build up, I need to know something. If a unit had the tanker package installed and photographed in various books,,,is it safe to say that another A-3B/A3D-2 from that unit might also have had it installed at some time? Or were there only certain Skywarriors that were configured to be able to carry the package? (such as the Pave Knife F-4Ds were the only ones able to carry the pod) And once installed, was it ever re
  25. Chris, I just typed up an answer for you on MM. Short answer,,,,,,,,,Yes, NM was the tail code for a while and there was an overall Light Gray (FS 16440) scheme on them. Since you posted both in such a short time,,,,,,I know you couldn't have seen either yet. So, I will save you a few minutes. "VA-25 used the tail code NE for a number of years. Then, the USN briefly had a CVW-10 with the tail code of NM. (after CVW-10 "AK" and CVW-19 "NM" were both disestablished)The planned deployment was on the Independence during Desert Shield timeframe. But, the Wing chan
