  1. yeah, Helmsman, but just like in my old days in Wisconsin,,,,,those 9 months still had 3 seasons included in them. "really cold autumn, bitter cold winter, really cold spring",,,,then the usual 6/20,21, or 22 for the start of "calendar" summer, which ends on 9/19-20 ish. only change is the flip of the seasons at the Equator, the four x/21 events are on the same day world wide. (that is what is sooo frustrating with that US Ground hog day thing,,,,it is physically 7 weeks more of Winter, which means Spring is already "right around the corner",,,,,so either
  2. 9/21 ish, then 12/21 ish, etc The seasons don't change at the month, or at the temperature change. (it will still be autumn up until a few days before Christmas, for example)
  3. To be honest, you would get the same sort of reaction from almost any aircraft. That is because there are 30-50 of each group labeled "Tomcat guys", "Phantom Phans", "Scooter fans", etc, etc. All the way down to "He-162 fans" (oh, and a lot of us overlap into different groups of modelers and subjects, and sites, and years of interest ) If you scroll around here a bit, you will notice that if a kit or a built model impresses,,,,,,it gets mentioned also.
  4. oops, here is the short answer In real life, up until 1984, they were different. Including vintage paint chips and booklets. In models, paints, online color guide sites, Wiki, and forum discussions, they were "the same color, just change the sheen"
  5. As you can see, I used to use PhotoBucket, lol. That is the Hangar Deck site that got "Photo-Bucketed" first, Then right around the time that I took Dana's advice and decided to re-take all of the photos anyway, to get rid of an "off color" appearance in the background pictures of the photo cards, my Invision forum got bought out by Tapatalk. That resulted in a glitch that won't let me access the site, except as a "Read-only Guest." (yeah, that is right, the owner can't log into his own site, as member, mod, or admin) So, I am rebuilding it all as a new forum using ano
  6. You might give a look at both 34092, and 34102. Those are close to the colors that the USAF used on their F-4B antiglare panels during the "loaner" days. (and yeah, 34079 and 34102 were SEA colors,,,,,but,,,,,,they had already long been in the FS pallet of colors before SEA was invented, so using them before that is not only perfectly valid,,,,but, also, they must have been used on something, or they wouldn't have been there already to invent the SEA scheme with)
  7. Yes, but it would at least be the beginning of fixing any "mixed up wing chord" problem. A "hard wing shape, but with slats" molding would require some kind of surgery or work to correct, no matter what decals get released with a kit.
  8. Well, having the slats on the wide wing is better than NOT having them on the narrow wing. Sword's kit is kind of a bear to add slats to. At least this way, the modeler can glue the slats in and fill the seams, and have an FJ-3 in LGG over White (and one Blue one if he chooses, with various wing fence options) If they don't give versions for a real Hard wing, and a real Slat wing,,,,,I guess a modeler could do the "slice a sliver off the leading edge" deal, and sand the front of the wing root to allow clearance for the bay.
  9. The Big correction from Gerry's PM was the firing part. Both MBR and the later MER had one cartridge per bomb, the MBR cartridges only fired the lugs, to release the bombs,,,,,,,which is what caused the float, and the loss of those 3 Intruders early in that cruise.` The MER's cartridges fired and released the lugs and ejected the bomb at the same time. (so, my long thought "ba-bang" wasn't right) But, the load info and clearances, and the time period and aircraft that it was used on were correct.
  10. I think it might have actually been an accident. In 1965, when my aunt gave me an "F4" model, she gave me a Revell 1/72 F4U. (I thought I was asking for an F-4, lol) Then, after enjoying that build, I went to the same store and bought another Revell kit. (there were many, many more 1/72 kits on the shelves than 1/48 or Box Scale) I kept going back, to build the collection of finished models, and discovered Lindberg and Airfix kits. A few years later, Monogram came out with the Bearcat, Tigercat, and the Bi-planes. Then, I finally got old enough to have a job
  11. Doesn't the D-704 also count as a 300 gallon tank when carried on the A-6E? If so, it could pass the gas, if needed, or keep and use the 300 gallons if needed.
  12. thanks for the PM Gerry. Corrections noted,,,,,,,,and I really need to stop posting off the top of my head. After all, if the top of my head can't be trusted to retain hair, why should I trust it to retain information?
  13. The MBR that Jari mentions wasn't a verson of the MER. It was a completely different bomb rack, designed before the MER was invented. The MBR and MER differ in at least these areas: They have different overall lengths, and different spacing front to back between the bombs. The MBR and MER have different "triangles" when you look at them from the front, caused by the top two bomb racks being mounted at different distances from the centerline of each rack. Same angles, but different distances = differently shaped triangle when looking at the noses of the bombs head on)
  14. I don't know which color system Richard is using, but, RGB doesn't work with physical pain mixing. (only for computer screen "virtual" colors) If you go in knowing which Gray, White or Black is actually on the Munsell pages as a Yellow, Blue, Green, Green-yellow, or Purple-Blue,,,you can see what paint tinting you need to do to reach the "Very Light Olive" color of Light Gull Gray. (based on 36440 being a gray with GY numbers,,,,,which puts it on the Green-Yellow page, instead on the N for Neutral grays) You can do this in person, with paints, without all the equipment,
  15. Well, Dehowie, this is really simple. If you place three kits of the same subject next to each other, and they are different from each other in spots,,,,at least two of them are wrong. Maybe all three. It doesn't matter which subject aircraft is chosen, 3 kits, not matching, something is wrong on them. When the Academy kit came out, people shouted shut up about the nose and the stabs,,,,,now, since Z-M has a kit, the Academy kit's flaws are a given. (this happens with every new tooling,,,it is "the best", and not to be criticized ,,,until there are newer box
  16. for me, it is just an old habit from back in the days before Google became so widespread. In those days, you didn't often use your real name on the internet,,,,,but, every board used a "Username" Names aren't a big secret,,,,but, it is sooooo much easier for me to see and recognize "Sky King", for instance, on any of the boards that we both use. I know the nickname belongs to a Picker in Texas, and he knows that my Rex and Cag variations belong to a Singer in Tennessee. edit, oh, and there has to be some way to tell all the Petes, Seans, Toms, Da
  17. there are some pretty good matches right out of the the bottle for the 3 USN Whites used over the years. Richard might know the best matches for mixing Tamiya paints for them, I can't help anyone much, all of my matches to those three colors are Out of Production paints,,,,,,well, except the easy one, the 17925 is available from a lot of sources, including 8 ounce bottles from Anita's Acrylics.
  18. haha, but, that is the Tamiya kit (you do get a "made you look" award, though)
  19. BLU-1 (look like early F-4 Travel pods) BLU-10 (look like skinny Mk 77) BLU-32 (again, look like skinny Mk 77) Mk 77, these are the blunt looking silver canisters that everyone thinks of, there was also 5 Mods of these, another had a short rounded fairing on the front, and a long tapered fairing on the rear Mk 79, these are the long red ones seen in A-1 and F-8 pictures,,,,,,they look like drop tanks with 4 rear fins And others that some other people will post, I am sure.
  20. Hey there Bo,,,,,,,,I guess you could sign up from scratch with a brand new username and password? It cuts the continuity with your past posts,,,,,,,,but, if we know that the new you is you,,,,,we can still know ya okay.
  21. I wonder how ARC has managed to avoid the switch,,,,,I just noticed that ARC is an Invision board. Invision and ZetaBoards are the ones that have been involuntarily changed to TapaTalk when TapaTalk bought them. (Brett chose TapaTalk when N54 closed down,,,,I bet he is realllllly glad he didn't choose IN or Zeta,,,,he would have gotten moved Twice) This was off topic, I know,,,,,,,but, Steve, I'm typing this as a warning so you have some heads up,,,,,,,,,,a lot of us didn't have any warning, just like MM this morning.
  22. Not trying "to do anything" at all. I'll give the ole towel a fling onto the court now,,,,,but, not without first saying,,,,,,okay,,,go ahead, bash away at them for not getting a kit done as fast as Tamiya (which might not even be true, non of the bashers even know the timelines for both companies) And you have it wrong,,,,,,if a company says that they have to put the new kit into an open place between projects being molded for other companies,,,,then, they do indeed have "day jobs." Working for others and slipping your own projects into open time is one way of defining
  23. I'm rooting for them too. Probably should be a different thread, but, I am rooting for all genre's of modeling, in all scales, to succeed. Even though this is 1/48, and I build 1/72, and I really will never need another Tomcat model or decal sheet, I am right there rooting for this to happen. That is because we need healthy, active, producers in any scale to keep going,,,,even if it is just so that we can continue to buy paints, cement and books. And who knows, some "We are dedicated to 1/48, or 1/32" company might just pop out products in 1/72 Navair that benefits
  24. Think of them about the same as Steel Beach, or any of the decal companies who's owners have day jobs. They aren't "non-profit" (ie: Charities), but, they aren't in it to make a living at it. (geez, I hope they aren't trying to put food on the table by releasing a new decal sheet 2 or 3 times a year) So, yeah, breaking even, or making $100 more* than it all cost them is the target amount. Almost all of the hobby producers and authors are trying to make just enough to be able to create and release the next product. *that number varies by individual, but, payi
  25. Yes, Dutch, I know,,,,,,,,that is true for this photo. But, for other photos of Phantoms where they "shouldn't be", from before 9/90, they could have been, and have been, VMFP-3 birds. or the tractor trainer, or the fire trainer.
