Thank you all for the wealth of information. I appreciate it!

Would it be safe to say that both the Aca and GWH kits are  "easy/putty-free" builds?

Yes, both kits are well engineered for the easy build. Meanwhile, the GWH kit offers attractive features such as the separate flaps & wing details for landing position and the bomb rack details.

Academy kit is wrong in its scale(bigger than 144 scale), and the nose cone shape is inaccurate(too pointy).

    My vote goes to GWH.

No, GWH is wrong in its dimension in terms of length and wingspan. The B-52H's fuselage was extended rearward after the phase IV upgrade program by 1m. Look at the diagram below.

    B-52H_upgrade.png.4410f6b65c849bcb9ce4e8a230ceaf8b.png

Then, the correct fuselage length of B-52H in the 144 scales would be around (48(fuselage length prior to Phase IV upgrade)m+1m)/144 = 34cm, which is closer to the Academy's.

There are more issues with the GWH kit, including incorrect details in the front landing gear bay and the fuselage shape. All the problems are also present in the Modelcollect's 1/72 scale kit, from which the GWH kit was significantly affected for some reason.

Now, those positive rivets look very nice, indeed.

I don't suppose they might release an A variant later on? Otherwise, I hope the A-10C specific features (like e.g. the GPS dome antenna on the fuselage) will be done as separate parts so an A could be made from it.

They are releasing A variant, too. The guy who built the painted sample in the photo above mentioned that the A variant's toolings were already made along with the C's. There is no info on its release date, though.

FWIW, I'll stick with the Academy kit, especially the better weapons and u/c detail, and just remove 5mm from the extended tail, if that is all that it takes for accuracy sake. (It does look a little long on the sprue shot).  Still waiting for mine to arrive.

You don't need to remove 5mm from the Academy kit. Academy's kit depicts a more up-to-date B-52H with Phase IV upgrade whose length was extended to 49.51m from 48.5m. This image shows that there is a size difference between a B-52H with and without a Phase IV update.

  5. MMZ posted the kit's review. According to the site, the kit has

    • accurately depicted front and back landing gear bays
    • accurate up-to-date antenna details
    • ordinances for the real actions including 2,000lb GBU-31(V) and 500lb GBU-38(V)
    • detailed TF33 engines and engine pylons
    • decals for up-to-date markings

MMZ's editor states that the designer of the kit (known as Wolfpack design) especially elaborated on accurately depicting the landing gear and bomb bays.

GWH having many inaccurate details in my inspect. So I wonder among Revell and Academy, which one have better accurate and details of B-52H here?

We cannot make a judgement until Academy's kit is released. I only assume it will have some updated details because Wolfpack design took a major role in designing the kit.

  7. It usually takes a couple of years for Wolfpack design to release a kit after the initial announcement. It looks like releasing a kit with their design, and tooling is a second priority issue. Usually, Wolfpack seems to be busy designing kits for other manufacturers such as Kinetics and Academy.

  8. Here is another link for a post which also compared Academy's and GWH's mudhens. GWH has more options in terms positionable parts including rudders, flaps, canopy and better PW nozzle details. Academy's kit is known to have been engineered based on the McDonnell Douglas' data so its overall shape can be more accurate. It also has more detailed panel lines and rivet details on surface. However, It does not offer a variety of options as GWH (e.g., canopy is one-piece). Also, many parts are simplified including a one-piece PW nozzle with extremely lame details.

Well, since there's no ARC thread on the GWH kit (is there?), I'll post this link from BM to some more photos of the GWH kit. Looks really good ... and Google translate does a fair job.

The GWH kit shows overall nice details. I can also see that its wheel hubs are not those of an F-15E.

  10. The kit has not been officially released yet but some test samples were distributed to a limited number of modelers and a modeling community, MMZ in Korea. Below are an official review of the kit by MMZ and a blog posting for the kit review.

There were also posted test build photos of the kit on the MMZ few hours ago.

The guy who posted the photos wrote that the sample was made without any glue to show that the kit was made as snap-together. Even without the glue, parts of the kit come together well.

Overall, the kit was engineered as snap-together and there are some simplified details including PW turkey-feather nozzle.  The reviewers are in agreement that the kit was engineered with far better details than the company's previous offerings including 1/72 F-18E/F and F-4 series. AFAIK, the kit was designed by Wolfpack design, another modeling company in Korea, which explains the significant improvement in details over Academy's previous snap kits. BTW, the decals are printed by Cartograf.

  11. It is said that the fuselage parts of the test sample were 3D printed, not plastics from the tooling. This explains some problems including noticeable gap between the nose and the windshield part and non-separate air brake.

Regarding non-droppable flaps and slats, it seems to me that Tamiya might release an option kit for take-off position with deployable flap/slats and compressed nose gear. For the recent years, they have been trying to reduce the cost of the kits and releasing separate detail sets along with main kits (e.g., Panther D or Lang's detail-up sets) and the same policy might be applied to their new Tomcat kit (hopefully).

Overall, I think it is still a little bit too early to make a final verdict on Tamiya's new Tomcat.

  12. Hello,

If I could dream a bit, but yes Meng satisfied my number one wish with the forthcoming F-106 in 1/72nd scale and I take it for grantes Eduard will release a Spitfire and Mig-21 series in the future...

All 1/72nd scale and trying to link a company with aircraft model

    Nortrop F5E/F : Wolfpack Design

    Vought F4U-4 : Hasegawa

    Republic F-84F Thunderstreak : Revell

    Republic P-47N Thunderbolt : Academy

Douglas A-26 Invader family : Hasegawa (have B-25 Mitchell and B-26 Marauder series in mind)

Lockheed F-80 : Platz (just work your T-33 little kit out)

NA FJ-3 Fury : Hobby Boss (I have their F6F-2 in mind)

    NA FJ-4 Fury : Academy

    Bucanneer : Airfix (who else?)

DH Sea Vixen FAW2 : Airfix (who else?)

I could add Gloster Javelin (Airfix – who else again?), Mirage 2000 family (Kinetic), F-101C/A (Meng), T-38A/C (WolfPack Design), Mig-25 (Zvezda) for 2017.. :thumbsup:/>/>/>/>

    Eric B.

AFAIK, the owner of Wolfpack design announced the plan for their own new tooling items including F-5E/F, T-38A/C, RF-8A/G in 1/72. Some of them were cancelled due to the announcement of other manufacturers (1/72 F-106, I guess). Since they have been busy designing items for some Chinese companies, their own lineup seems to be released slowly.

  13. Anybody know of where I can go to download the Academy F-4B Instruction Sheet? Or....if anyone has a .PDF I would be most grateful. The F-4B (Bravo) not the F-4C Vietnam bird! :)/>/>

    Thanks,

    Paul

You can find a download link for the instruction sheet on the page below. They seem to have uploaded the instruction sheets for most of their products.
