  1. What he said... I prefer the paper mask too with back rolled masking tape. It takes some time to cut the masks to shape and fix them, but this gives the best results for a soft camouflage edge. Just use a little thick paper (not cardboard, but some heavy weight paper) this way it won't flex under airbrush pressure amd keep its shape against fuselage curves and so on.
  2. On all US Carriers until the Midway class the flight deck wasn't armoured. The structural strength deck was the hangar deck, everything built on top of it was relatively light. I think this was made for a number of reasons... easy way to vent out dangerous fuel vapour... the hangar sides were open... so the planes could be refuelled on the hangar deck without problems... while the british instead of a central fuel system had to use small jerrycans that made the refuelling a very long task, the possibility to have larger decks (so more planes) without too much top weight and so on. 3. Yeah, and this is their testimonial :)
  4. Well, my russian isn't very good, but from what I understand, they compared it to drawings and made a comparison with the Zvezda kit... Seems nice, and with fine recessed panel lines... The clear parts look a bit thick however... might need a vacuformed replacement....
  5. Thanks, but feel a bit lonely, being the only one today..... :P Btw, what about the royal baby? :)
  6. Hey... wasn't very active in the forum lately, so I hadn't seen the news.... How many times did I tell you not to try to stop cars with the teeth???? Tsk tsk tsk
  7. I'm working at the Zvezda 1/72 Ka-27PL (asw) Helix A, and looking at the photos, seems they put the fuselage windows in the wrong place.... on the port side the first window should be placed much aft, closer to the second one, while on the starboard side the first window seems in the right place, the second one instead... shouldn't be there at all. Am I wrong or did they change something in the various production batches?
  8. Hi, I have the Zvezda Ka-27PL (the ASW variant) with the neomega cockpit and was looking at some pictures of the cockpit. Apart from the panels in the usual russian blu/green, what's the right color for the cockpit wall? Looks to me a medium gray, something like 36375 or something like that... Thanks in advance
  9. The seat is so small because it's for the monkey :) Anyway, yeah, doesn't seem anything more than a scale mockup... even if they'll ever develop it into a real plane, the "rollout ceremony" with a pilot eating his knees is nonsense....
  10. This is what happens to people taking too many "blue" pills.... :)
  11. Ordered from Hobbyterra a number of times. Great service every time! Great prices for "eastern" stuff and fast shipping. Usually I got the parcel in a week or two. Has been quite a while I haven't ordered from them, if they still have the free shipping over 150$ that's a great option, because otherwise the shipping costs could be the problem. But if you are going to order that monster of An-124, well, it's for sure over 150$!
  12. I love the Fujimi kits... yeah... not 100% accurate, but it falls together so nicely that you can spend more time in things like paint job and markings. So far I made 3: an MF, an SMT and a Bis (yeah, the MF is in fact a Bis... you only have to sand down the spine to make it slimmer near the tail). And the MiG-21 had so many colour schemes....
  13. The whole story is definitely strange.... I'm not used to Navy policies, but I find rather strange that you reassign a plane with live ordnance to an excercise... safety regulations should avoid this just in case you fire live ordnance by mistake.... BUT... in this case it's even worse, 'cause seems he wanted to fire live ordnance at a friendly plane. The question is.... why????? Did he think it was a drone, was he just plainfully insane? Is the whole story a badly written coverup? Dunno, but despite the "family ties", I find it rather absurd that he wasn't court martialed, let alone becomi

    Naval Mig-29

Definitely... the Su-27K/33 production line could have been reopened, but after 20 years it would have been very costly! As the MiG-29K is instead already in production for India it's much more easy, fast and cheap to order some more "off the shelf". Apart from that, things changed a lot since the early '90s, also in military doctrine. The Su-27K/33 is a wonderful plane, but maybe a smaller tactical figther/bomber like the MiG-29K is better suited to contemporary threats. Things for India instead were different. Apart from strategy, their carrier is smaller than the Kuznetsov, so they needed

    Naval Mig-29

Well, this is the story (more or less). In the last days of soviet union, they had 2 prototype fighters for the then new carrier (Tbilisi, latek Admiral Kuznetsov): the Su-33 and the MiG-29K (both were navalised versions of the Flanker and the Fulcrum). The Su-33 (aka Su-27K) won and all work on the MiG-29K was stopped: they had 2 flying prototypes, derived from the MiG-29M, but it was still a long way (and a lot of money) from beeing operational. Then India bought the Admiral Gorshkov (former Baku, Kiev class cruiser) and had it refurbished by Russia from a helicopter/vtol cruiser to a ctol
  16. UFO and Space 1999... I loved them as a kid... even if... Well... some models were great (the Eagle was so cool)... but other things were plain silly... remember the command post on Alpha with white plastic "garden" chairs? Or the fact than in UFO the moonbase only had 3 interceptors (with a one missile each)... but UFOs were so stupid they never attacked with more than 3 flying saucers! :) And then there was Lt. Ellis....
  17. But isn't the host "Ducky"from NCIS? :) Anyway...
  18. Still prefer the original version... By the way, the plot is a bit silly... but the aerial footage is probably the best they've ever made! P.S. Les belles ne sont jamais libres, et les libres rarement belles!! :)
  19. Ok, so I must disagree.... I love rubber tires... got a lot of Equipage ones in the past. The hub is easier to paint and (at least on 1/72 planes) they look realistic... Just a small tip.... there is a mould line all around the tire that's difficult do sand... my trick is to mount the tire on a small rod (usually the drum of a sanding tool) connected to the dremel... power on the dremel and "sand" the tire against a sanding stick... this eliminates the rubber flash and "ruins" a bit the tire, making it slightly dark gray and coarse just on the tread... looks realistic.
  20. Wow! Really hope they'll do an F-106 now... I have so many nice decals to use....
  21. Reminds me of a line from Manhattan mystery murder: "we gotta call the police... yes, and... and... a glazier" :)
  22. I'd put a BTR in the cargo bay of the An-12... seems it fits
  23. Only me today (yesterday)? Uh Thank you anyway! :)

    Ruslan in 1/72

Interesting (in fact it out of stock in both for now, but it doesn't matter). By the way... for us europeans, there's also another fact when dealing with non EU hobby shops.... ehr... how they ship... if they send it via registered mail telling the value on the box...... VAT!!! (Value added taxes), which means al least 20% more costs, custom duties, blah blah blah... I once got an order from the good old Aviation Usk and to finally get the parcel I had to pay the double!
