  1. a new tool F-106 in 1/72... I have a bazillion of the old Superscale and Expert's Choice decals for the 106s (most of the squadrons) but the old Hasegawa is too crap to think to build a squadron of darts from it....

$ 420 on Hobbyterra! Holy cow! Ok, the beast is huge, but it costs more than any Amonster I've seen before...
  3. Unless it's all staged to get some publicity.... don't forget that he's a dj..... and the photo looks staged... if you were worried about the paint not coming off after 20 washes, whould you let people take a photo? Otherwise, he really used ballistic missiles paint.... (probably nasty paint) and he qualifies for a darwin award... :)
  4. A true story A disk jockey in Rio de Janeiro, Paulo Henrique dos Santos, 36, painted his body to look like Hulk for the "Peace defy" in Vila Cruzeiro. After the run, the surprise... the paint didn't come off... even after many washings... "MC Marronzihno" the name for which the dj is known, called his mother and friends who, with a lot of soap, washed him 25 times in 24 hours before the normal color showed again... Seem he had used a very special green paint used to paint ballistic missiles for nuclear submarines... Apart for the stupidity.... one thing I'd like to know is... how does it w
  5. What they said. The gun and the frameless canopy are more or less of the same period, early '70s. But while all F-106 had the new canopy, not all were fitted with the gun, so while gun equipped Darts will have the frameless canopy, the opposite is not always true: you should check the serial number to be sure. As other said, the Six kept the AIM-4 falcon till the end of the service life, while the genie was seldom used since the '70s (and eventually replaced by the gun).
  6. Apart from the big ones of today, 9:03 AM and the 2 at 1PM, there were a big number of small quakes... At first I was just fed up but nothing more, but when I went downstairs I felt like I was drunk for all that shaking.... just couldn't tell anymore if the earth was moving or it was just me... just like when you spend some time on a boat and as you touch land you become landsick...
  7. Again this morning at 9:03 AM... I was just in the office, talking with a friend I hadn't seen since the first earthquake... of course we were talking about it when she says "there's a new one". I look at the coathanger and it's shaking like it was alive... oh gosh... again... I'm starting to get fed up. Seems no major damage here (even if my mother called me to say they have put fences around the chuch because there's a seam on the tower). But up north, near the first epicenter, things went much worse... (5.8 richter) more collapsed buildings, 8 more deaths (maybe more). I'm starting to ge
  8. Well, must tell you that... So I was woken up by the earthquake at 4:00 AM and I knew it was a big one... but had no info on how far (and so how big) it had been... so started scanning TV channels but of course they were all late telling the news.... Facebook instead was alredy full of posts... anyway, after half an hour also the TV started giving news about what had happened. Needless to say no one really wanted to go back to bed.... so I finally fell asleep on the couch at maybe 5:30 AM with the TV still on... Something you should never do.... because you sleep and you dream... but you st
  9. So, tonight at 4 AM got woken up by a quake... a pretty strong one... the chandelier was moving like a pendulum... No damage or injuries where I live, but some 70km up north, near the epicenter, things went quite different... collapsed buildings and at least 6 known dead... Now it's all the day we have aftershocks (a couple around 5, 5.1, the others were smaller), tomorrow I'll go to Bologna to see if my office is still there (it should, seems they were really scared there, it's 40 km closer to the epicenter, but no real damage). I had never experienced such a strong quake... definitely not

    OT- Time

I do mostly work related to cultural and natural heritage (book and guides writing, lessons, guided tours and so on) and for some of my work I have to deal with college students... Gosh... I'm amazed when they try to find excuses that were already old when I was in college! And telling this, I'm not even 40 and feel like a grumpy old man :P Still wonder how long is it gonna be before we go and stop to see road and building works! (and give unwanted advice to the men at work!) :)
  11. Ever wonder how different you consider time as time goes by? Let me explain, in the '80s when I was a kid if they told me something that had happened some 10-15 years before (such as... let's see... Vietnam War, the Oil Crisis and do on) it seemed like they were talking about ancient history... Lately it happens I think of something that happened... more or less yesterday and... it was 10 years ago! Gosh! "And I bet that this is how life Turns out when you've finally grown And you know if this is my life I'll sit around all day and I'll moan..."
  12. What about this one? She doesn't have the right voice to cover Iris...
  13. Hi, I have an "unusual" problem. Close to my home there's a small woods with panels telling the story of the area, the kind of trees you can find and so on. The panels are those "laser printed" forex (don't think it's really laser anyway... those color printed white plastic panels they use now). Unfortunately some dumb a** decided to vandalize the panels with some rattle can.... Now... if I wait for the mayor to have the panels cleaned.... I'd like instead to try to restore them. So, what's best to use? Some of the paint came also on the written areas of the panel, so I'll have to try to

Great! Thanks Ken Uh... don't really know the difference, but I assume polyester resin is the "normal" resin... Anyway, we'll have to see the sprues (well... the parts in fact) to see if it's really that good or if the modeller was THAT good, but the model seems very nice, with good detail and shape...

Well, nothing, apart from the fact it's hard and brittle and you have to wear a pressure suit to work with it :) Seriously.... I don't like the fact that to cut every fine little bit you need a power tool instead of the usual cutter and sandpaper... (and at least a dust mask because you don't want to breath that stuff.... Took me ages with the Tu-160 just to cut and smooth the cutouts for the intakes and wheel wells... and doing it under tap water to avoid having fine fibres flying all over the house. And I have their Il-76 too... still in the box however.... On the other hand I love vacs

Who knows if it will be injection moulded or fibreglass like Amonsters.... don't like fibreglass that much....
  17. I was taking a look at Hobbyterra when I noticed this kit in the future releases http://hobbyterra.com/product_info.php?products_id=334 What??? A Ruslan in 1/72 (even if it's listed as An-125) Can't wait to see it....
  18. Well, the UB can carry the same armament as the single seater (apart from radar guided missiles of course). This in theory... In normal operations, seems it's almost always without any weapon.
  19. Tamiya, with a modelling spatula or, for very small spots, with the tip of a #11 blade
  20. I don't know for sure, but consider that most of the Soviet/Russian deals with "friendly" countries meant that they didn't just supply equipment, but they also trained pilots (and ground crew), usually in Russia. So I wouldn't be surprised if it was a common thing to talk in russian and have service stencils in russian too.
  21. For "western" yellow/black handles I take 2 pieces of copper wire (electric wire), paint one yellow and the other black, then twist them together to make a new wire. Works great for 1/72, but you'll probably notice the trick in bigger scales, cause the yellow/black handle made this way will have a "spiral" pattern instead of yellow/black cicles.
  22. Seems they start their life like regular shiny metal... then of course with usage they become more a "burnt metal" shade
  23. It already did.... despite all the black humor on italian tv and newspaper, I saw Letterman talk about that the other night, so I think the thing is spreding worldwide... Anyway... the clearly angered coast guard officer yelling at the captain to come back on his boat is something that helps understand what "duty" is. Not a hero, just a man doing the right thing!
  24. It's even worse than that... when the Coast Guard ordered him to come back on his ship, the reply was "but it's dark"... So the Coast Guard replied "Do you want to go home?"
