  1. Nice progress with your Ford! Good to hear it's a nice kit too since I've always loathed the box cover art. πŸ™‚ That alternator is a gem!
  2. Neither have I. The closest possibility for such a situation would be something a la Su-17 or MiG-27 where some designator pod (like "vyuga") for AG missiles would be hanging on the other side and a rocket pod for balance on the opposite side.
  3. Always thumbs up for a Finnish MiG! Never heard about the decals you used but it's good to know there are options. I too had warping issues with my kit.
  4. Thanks! Still, every drawing I've found (even the better looking and detailed ones = Russian) seem to depict a line there. But, you seem to be right, there is no recessed line there: http://scalemodels.ru/modules/forum/img_1621265_1590310669_IMG_20170928_091747.jpg.html But there certainly seems to be a faint weld line. On the other hand, all the weld lines on the kit are represented as recessed lines anyway. On this case, since the line is so delicate, I might actually delete the recessed one altogether. So, thanks for the tip!
  5. I had naturally read all the ARC 1/48 Foxhound threads and although there have been views (at that time radical views in my mind!) that the HB is actually better, it was only when I really started building this kit and noticed that they really DID got some things better than AMK.
  6. Thanks! I think some of the additions are quite essential. I don't have the kit in hand right now, so I'm not sure which panel line you're referring to. Good for you, Berk! I'm trying to finish this kit before the autumn. In autumn. Let's say before the winter! πŸ˜„
  7. Several small exhausts (six, as far as I've been able to find) are located on the ventral fuselage. Some of these slightly protruding pipes are round, some oval - but none of them are included on the kit. At first I was just trying to represent them as mere drilled out holes but that just didn't look the part. I had suitable metal pipes of different sizes (electric connectors, actually) so they were used instead. Also missing was an oval hatch (in orange). It still lacks piano hinges on the bottom
  8. I know. It is of wrong scale. πŸ™‚ But in a way, it is a rather pleasant scale to work with. Thank you, Ruud! Thanks for your kind words! I'm very grateful for your decision! Although I've encountered some problems during the project, I still do like the kit very much. It's a great starting point for a hugely detailed model.
  9. A very nice collection! I'm glad you shared it with us.
  10. Shame about the paint problems. I can fully understand the sentiment though.
  11. The ventral fuselage is missing some details as well. I added some fasteners, drilled out some exhaust and added lines of rivets into the most visible areas. Due to soot and all kinds of streaks they become quite visible. I also engraved some details on the "keel" in the middle.
  12. Not dead yet. After finding some further reference material, the project is gathering pace again. I was concerned about certain panel lines on this kit and a couple of missing bumbs. I also realized there were more piano hinges missing, now on the top fuselage. Although a lot of fastener details are included with the kit, a lot is missing. In reality for instance the spine panels are full of them and these were duly added. They are rather visible in many photos. And so are the piano hinges. It seems the kit designers have checked their references, but the e
  13. Just go for Eduard. There's no competition really. Eduard bis is the one with problems on the nose area since the parts are the same as on their MF kits. The difference could be considered minor and one might alleviate it some work, but it is there and can be seen clearly.
  14. Great! Not what I was voting for... but it's a Matchbox! And after all, this is a very interesting plane, which I wasn't even aware of before this.
  15. Decided to raise this old but very informative thread from the dead since I'm now a proud owner of GWH's MiG-29 9-12 "early type" (L4814). As some might know, I've always been a strict 1/72 builder. I now do have an 1/48 AMK MiG-31 in progress though and I've really been impressed by its level of details and partly by its engineering. As an eternal and longtime Fulcrum fan I decided to get another bigger scale MiG and again I've been very impressed by the quality of the kit. Not sure about the engineering aspect - yet. I hadn't followed this thread that carefully when the kit was b
  16. This of course begs a question: What kind of submarine? Or is it classified? πŸ™‚ Happy modeling!
  17. Excellent work! I love your detail work.
  18. This really sums it up. They really are forgiving. I've had experinces where I've thought I have f***ed some larger decal really bad (wrong positioning etc.) and yet the decal has slid away nicely to a position it needed to be in. I've had the exact opposite happening with some other decals. True also that one does not necessarily need any solvents for sinking them into panel lines. I use it anyway cause Cartograph stuff can take it.
  19. Cartograph stuff is certainly much thinner than especially Tamiya decals. In my mind they seem to be delicate but always go on just nicely. In my experience they are very flexible and will adhere into recesses and panel lines like a dream. They are a certain kind of brand after all. I'm one of those who will always trim as much as possible, just my thing. Not always though and they have still gone on perfectly. They also can take any solution, I've never had any problems.
  20. A gorgeous model of such a magnificent looking aircraft. Certainly something I would like to try some day.
