  1. The earliest GR7s wore the two tone green scheme, like the GR5, so you can do a green one if you want! Model Alliance's 1/48 Harrier Gr7 scheme comes with a few marking options for green jets.
  2. This kit has been a real pain in the backside for me - it was originally to be built as ZE734, a medium sea grey machine from 25 squadron, but the flat coat somehow reacted with the paint and crazed it completely If it wasn't built from such a rare and relatively expensive to purchase kit (~£30 from ebay, including shipping from the US), it'd have just been chucked in the bin at this point, but I decided to strip it and start again. Modelstrip was used to get rid of the paint (brush painted humbrol enamels and can sprayed matt coat) but boy did it take some hard scrubbing with a toothbrush
  3. Nor me - looks silly, having two roundels on the aircraft!
  4. Its not a glide kit on the paveway IV, rather its just a hardback/cover for the extra cabling that this version has. http://www.armedforces.co.uk/projects/raq40ffa8802452a You could fit a 'Longshot' glide adapter to PWIV too but the ones that have been flown thus far have not been equipped with that. Of note is that the laser seeker module does not have to be fitted - it can be used in GPS only mode, in which case the conical seeker head is not fitted (see the exploded diagram above), though the guidance section and fins remain the same. I'm pondering how to make the hardback for the bas
  5. Errr....quoting the images again is not costing anybody any more bandwidth costs, as they're already stored in the browser cache. Subsequent quotes will load the cached image, rather than downloading it afresh from the website again (which would up the bandwidth usage)
  6. Nice job - love the 17sqn markings, its those that I used on my Typhoon. One question, why the Sidewinders and not ASRAAMs though? :( I've never seen an 'in service' RAF jet carrying anything other than the AIM-132.... Forgive my eyesight, but what corrections have been made to these areas? :)
  7. Nice work so far....a real beast of a kit to wrestle with, thats for sure. Which jet are you going to model, and with what loadout? There sure is some appealing noseart for Granby Buccs thats for sure
  8. Definitely a kit I'd be interested in - though I'd probably build mine as a 'D'
  9. Would recommend some aftermarket exhaust nozzles myself - the problems with removing the sprue 'cross' from *inside* the kit nozzles cleanly without butchering them are the biggest headache of the whole build IMHO!
  10. 250 mission markings is impressive in itself, but given the bloody long endurance the thing can manage, that makes for some incredible time 'on station' doing the business over Iraq!
  11. I'd definitely be in for a 1/48 sheet Any ideas as to which jets it will cover yet? You have to include Nikki and Awesome Annie IMHO
  12. Great build, and liked the article - can relate to such an occurence as tpified by the 'pink patch incident' (in my case it was humbrol number 2 gloss green and a week old M&S white shirt that I wore to school....). The F-111 is growing on me I have to say - gonna have to add one of these to the ever lengthening 'to build' list!
  13. Is there any difference in the underside 'tunnel' where the TARPS pod mounts between those that can carry the pod and those that can't? :)
  14. All the CBU-87s I've ever seen photos of are/were olive drab...have seen plenty of other CBU's in white, but personally, never the 87!
  15. Should definitely be there - the RAF sent 43 squadron, a Tornado F3 air defence unit, to India last year (oddly enough, in airframes borrowed from 25sqn) for an excercise, and the plan was for it to be reciprocal. 43sqn is based at RAF Leuchars in Scotland, but since the runways there are being dug up this summer, the Sukhois will have to be based somewhere else - Waddington is/was apparently venue of choice for the excercisem for a variety of reasons....just so happens that the dates co-incided almost perfectly, the Indians probably thought 'why not stay a little longer?' and that was that
  16. Looks awesome, just like the 1/48 version. I really want a 1/48 twin seater myself
  17. The poll doesn't work properly if you chose 'no'. Personally, though I'd like to see it, I doubt we'll ever see a new tool! I rather wish Revell would do all of the following though, since it'd go a long way towards easing the problems associated with building a Tornado GR4: 1) Retool the existing kit to correct the tail shape, and (depending on how they wanted to box it/what variants they wanted to represent) fair over the right hand side fun fairing. 2) Provide an extra sprue with a corrected tail and correct weapons pylons, a GR4 undernose FLIR fairing, new instrument panels (with TARDI
  18. The rocket pods not being parallel to each other looks odd to me too, though I'm guessing its perhaps because the Cobra has a system that adjusts the angle of the weapons pylons (ala the Apache) but that it only adjusts the inner pylons rather than the outermost/tip ones?
  19. Yes, should be, unless they've been pilfered! Also that boxing includes a good set of other RAF ordnance - JP233, Paveway 2, TIALD, 8 1000lb mk13/18 GP bombs and ALARMs.
  20. Basically, but actually using the lettering/block variant codes in the quite same way the US does is far too simple and easy to understand to be applied to anything designed by consortium in Europe  besides we wouldn't confuse you so easily then either ;)
  21. Ready for it? Clear as mud.... For the Typhoon, block refers to relatively minor software and hardware changes and revisions, whilst tranche refers to a more significant avionics/weapons systems improvement. Tranche 1 was the 'baseline' specification Typhoon, delivering a primarily air to air capable airframe, though this will eventually be able to carry LGBs and Litening 3. The definitive capability at the moment in time for this Tranche of production will be block 5, with all RAF jets to be upgraded to this specification from previous blocks. Block 5 has the latest FCS software (clear
  22. Slightly OT - whatever happened to the An-70? I recall Antonov were hawking it to the Germans, trying to come to some deal as to joint production to fulfill the Luftwaffe's future airlift requirements and for export, but the Germans went with the A400M program and I've read nothing of the AN-70 since. Rather a shame since it was a cool looking aircraft in my view, with those mental looking propfans!
  23. Fit was overall pretty good, with only a few problem areas - the airbrake needs a bit of a trim and filler to fit right if you want to display it closed. There is a small step in the rectangular cut outs on the wing undersides too, which benefitted from sanding but a bit of filler to build up the area might help more (the steps are still somewhat visible on my model, if you look either side of the mid section of the front pair of AMRAAMs). Take care with the intake assembly and ejector seat too as both are tight fits and the intakes are especially fiddly. Overall though, a very nicely detai
  24. 52FW is the Spangdahlem jets isn't it, USAFE? 22FS (Stingers) and 23FS (Fighting Hawks) with block 50 Vipers, and the 81st FS on A-10As.... :)
  25. It'll be going on a stand along with its other 'wheels up' brethren (Tornado GR4, Harrier GR7, Jag GR3, Hawk T1A, and eventually a few others!), but the thing is the stands I want to use I can only find for sale in the US. I've found a retailer that will ship them internationally but they want $60 to ship them no matter how many I buy, so I figure keep building the jets then place an big order for like 10-12 stands!
