  1. This topic seems to have died out so I am going to ask you for your thoughts. I hope you can help.

I am building the Hasegawa FB-111A and am curious about the nose contour from the radome back to the windscreen.

I have glued the fuselage halves (A1 and A20) together and am happy with fit. Yesterday I glued on part K-4 which fits between the windscreen and radome. I noticed that it didn't quite fit unless I put pressure on it. I glued the left side, held until glue set, then glued the right side, again holding until the glue set. There were no real issues, but I found I needed to add some putty to help with the contour on K-4, just above the fuselage halves. I have now done some light sanding and the nose contour seems to flatten a bit on both sides of part K-4 where it joins the fuselage halves.  I have never seen this before and am curious as to your thoughts.

Below are a couple of pics of my progress. Red area where the contour flattens.

I lived next to Pease for years and watched the 111's take off over my house, afterburners on!

I had many opportunities to see the planes on the flight line, I just don't remember this contour being prominent on actual aircraft.

    Your thoughts??

    Thanks.

    Mark

      Hi Mark,

VERY sorry for my tardy reply. I just don't post very much on ARC anymore (or anywhere else for that matter). I'm not an FB expert, nor do I have a Hasegawa FB kit. That said, I don't have a problem with what you've done. The astro tracker was slightly elevated from the standard nose profile and from the pictures I've seen of it, it kind of looks like what you've done to me. I think they have one on display at Pease--you might want to go take a look at the real thing.

      Cheers,

      Jim

  2. So, your last comment wasn’t clear to me. Are you accepting pre orders for this set now?
  3. Great subject matter, when will this set be available Mark Natola
  4. As the author of several books about the B-47, it is nice to see another 1:72 decal sheet dedicated to my favorite plane. Although most B-47's sported a natural metal finish, you can find variations in the white anti-flash paint schemes, a few garishly painted WB-47B's, the three "Navy" birds. There were a lot of aircraft with dedications to local towns, "City of...". Great job Caracal! Mark
  5. I also purchased this comprehensive "enhancement" set, and agree with Winnie. Each set was well wrapped and there was NO breakage in shipping. To begin, I am very impressed with the engine details set. The resin parts are thinly cast, yet have sharp details. Adding this to the Eduard engine set should be straight forward. The rear wheel bay looks great. They are crisp looking and won't require much clean up. The -G fuel tanks are well done, featuring raised weld lines, without any obvious mold / seams to deal with. They certainly look the part. Finally, the nose and EVS system are wonderfully
  6. I recently purchased all of Nigel's late G updates. I have not built the kit yet, so time will tell. Between the photos shown here and the videos on YouTube, I think this nose update set is a winner. I have hundreds of B-52 photos, from the X/YB to the H model, many from former WADC pilots who ferried planes directly from Boeing to the USAF. With the exception of the Monogram D, no one has truly captured the profile of the late BUFF's accurately. Beauty is in the eye of the beholder, and until someone comes along with actual Boeing blueprints and line drawings from the depots where the planes
  7. Nigel, I am interested in these items for the MC kit as well. Are you considering selling them as individual sets, or might you put together a complete update kit? As for MC, I also received an email from them several days ago and they indicate that the B-52G replacement parts are being restocked this month and, Iquote, "I think next month we can ship." Mark
  8. It could be used a reference point if you were trying to determine if the revised radome was installed along the same panel lines as the original radome, or if the entire nose was modified for the new radome.
  9. I am not sure how you would measure it, but there is a circular vent between the R and the C in photo one, that can be seen in the second photo as well. If nothing else it gives a sense as to where the original radome and the late radome sit.
  10. I will want one of the early G's when you get around to the MC kit. Thanks. Mark
  11. I think that the nose begins to taper almost from where the shadow hits the camo in photo #2, sorta like the sun hitting the highest point on a face, the cheek bone, then it tapers down.
