    EC-121R question

    Here's a clearer shot RHAW antenna close-up

    EC-121R question

A key element of the EC-121R conversions was the addition of RHAW antennae. The form on the forward fuselage is well suited to RHAW and I'd go with that. The page from which the above linked image comes has tons of photos to help understand the shape and and position. No one answers all the questions, but they do build a picture. See BATCAP EC-121R detail page
  3. Take a look at Aussie Decal 72028 for generic F-111 markings in black. Aussie Decal 72028 DG
  4. Just in case somebody searches this thread: I bought a used Silentaire 20 via eBay about 10 years ago. The seller did not drain the oil before shipping, so it spilled all over the unit and the box. That took a while to clean up, but ever since, the device has given me completely reliable and completely silent, trouble free service. It is NOT maintenance-free. Every few months (depending on usage) I open the drain plug to release any water trapped by the compression of humid Alabama air. I lose oil in that messy process, so I have to refill the reservoir. I'm not too fond of the built i
  5. The Apollo 10 vehicle is only surviving ascent module that went to the moon. It is in solar orbit. The ascent module for Apollo 11 fell out of lunar orbit at an unknown location. All the others have impacted the moon. More info at: Wiki LM page
  6. Airfix kits of that era are not known for the accuracy of their color call-outs or interior fittings. The primary exterior colors are white over gull gray (36440). A wonderfully detailed description of the changes to "old 66" was done by Tommy Thomason on June 19, 2015. You can scroll down to it here: June 2015 Tailhook Topics. He also links to a detailed SH-3D build article by Jodie Peeler. You won't find more accurate information on US Navy Aircraft anywhere. DG
  7. Hi all, Can anyone direct me to the color references for the multicolor JASDF Rescue scheme on their S-62Js? I am interested in the Orange-Yellow with Green window band scheme as appears here: Hamamatsu Museum S-62J. In particular, are there FS595 or other standard color references for the Orange-Yellow, Green, and Red that appear on these aircraft? Or - altenrantively - are there known hobby paint matches? David
  8. Ken- where did you get the Madge? I haven't seen it for sale in the colonies yet. Also, do you have a recommendation on a model paint for the grey on the Ukraine Be-12? It looks lighter than the Soviet/Russian standard dark grey. David
  9. Mine arrived from Hobby Terra this week. It was 2 weeks from Kiev to USPS hands in Providence, RI, then 2 days from Providence to Alabama. No complaints there. The kit looks good to me. I was quite pleased to see that molding looked more like the Czech kits and less like the A-model of old. The A-Model Brewer haunts my dreams. I am very appreciative of the inclusion of masks for the complex glazing. I am less pleased about the rubber tires. I will keep watch resin replacements for those. I look forward to using the Ukraine markings. Nothing else in my collection wears those. I hav
  10. Jennings, I am glad to hear you are well despite the tremendous loss. I hope you are able to quickly establish 'home' and thrive once again. It's good to know our modeling communities have stood by you; you know you can call on us (me) to help re-establish those hard-to-find things like your reference library. David
  11. Yes, we do, but I don't do 1/48. I will be cutting plastic after the first of the year, which should be sufficient sacrifice to the modeling gods to have Italeri announce an Italian HH-3F shortly thereafter (or CyberHobby an extension of their Sea King series).
  12. I'm looking to turn one of my old favorites, the Revell 1/72 HH-3 'Jolly Green Giant,' into a USCG HH-3F Pelican. I know how to manage most of the modifications, but I'm having trouble tracking down the dimensions of the nose radome. Does anyone have access to the real thing, or a set of drawings that indicate the radome's size? DG PS: And yes, I am aware of the conversion kits that are/have been out there, but I'd like to scratch build this part.
  13. I have had one Alclad Duraluminum finish develop cracks as you describe. I have not been able to trace the source of the problem. Since it was not Chrome, I did not use the black undercoat. The finish was on plain styrene, with no resin. I'm suspicious of differential heat expansion of the paint vs. plastic under incandescent lights. DG
  14. Maybe my search fu is failing, but I don't see evidence of the 1/72 sets for sale on the web. Sign me up for the recce versions, both as-built and late Marinefliger. DG
  15. Wonderful story, Jennings. I'm glad you came up with a fitting display. DG
