  1. Does anyone have an unused 1/72nd SNJ Texan (Testors) decal sheet they are not using and would like to donate or trade? Its the silver fuse with yellow wings and red tail scheme. If I could get a scan of the decal placement part that would be great as well. Thanks Aaron
  2. Thanks guys. Honza's builds are amazing. Aaron
  3. Can I get some input on the easiest way to highlight an airplane that is one color, ie a sea blue corsair; so it doesnt look like a single blob of color. I dont want heavy weathering, just subtle things here and there to break up all that dark color. Thanks
  4. Yes, I have an aircraft body that has to be painted a certain color. Yes, it will have to be thinned. Since it is a custom mixed color on the real aircraft, standard color craft/model paints will NOT work. There is no currently matched color available. Thanks for tip about the alcohol, perhaps I will try windex.
  5. Has anyone had any luck painting with latex paint like what you would get at a Home Depot etc.? Does one have to add alcohol or anything to get to stick? Looking for some custom color mixes that arent available as standard bottled paint. Thanks Aaron

Thanks! Its been slow going. To properly do an SNJ-6/T6F I should have started with the Harvard and sanded the rear canopy but this one is close enough for me. I will eventually do another one that way. For in depth references check out Bills page here: http://www.t6srus.net/ He is a great wealth of information having worked on these for many years. He has a modeling section on his page as well. Aaron

Hey Guys, Its been a while but here are some pics of progress. I have decided to make decals for the stripes instead of painting them. Here is the process I used to get my patterns for decals. Maybe it will help those of you who want to do the same. 1. Mask off area like you are going to paint it. 2. Tape wax paper over the area to be painted. 3. Take a NEW 11 blade and lightly trace outline of area to be "painted" or in this case decaled. 4. The wax paper will produce a white line where scored allowing you to cut a pattern. If you cut carefully you can cut without damaging the mod
  9. Figured it out guys. Took wax paper and covered the wing top and bottom wrapping it around the leading edge like the decal would. Taped it down. Note I had already masked the stripe like I was going to paint it. This gives a template to follow. I then took a pen and traced on the inside edge of the masked areas. Untaped everything and now I had a traced template to follow. Cut it out carefully and then scanned into Illustrator. Scaled appropiately(?sp) and printed and cut out to test fit. Works like a charm, only had to do one small correction! Problem solved. Thanks!
  10. Guys, What is the best way to make a decal for a wing stripe? In other words, how do I "unwrap" the stripe from the wing to make a pattern for a decal instead of painting them on. Ive tried masking like im painting and then tracing with paper to get a pattern but it takes a lot of "fiddling to get it right. Surely there has to be an easier way. One has to adjust for the sweep of the wing so the bottom stripe lines up with the top one and account for that angle. Thanks. Aaron
  11. Thanks guys, Calling has begun.
  12. Great Photos! I live in the area as well and just visited the new hanger. Not to steal anyones thunder/post but if you would like to see pics I have two albums on my facebook page. I'm under Aaron Malone in Orlando. My profile pic has me hanging out the window of a B25. Glad to contribute and thanks again for sharing to the original poster. I kept some of the outside shots myself, .

Finally got one cylinder done with pushrods, more to come later. Sorry for 'graininess' of p;ics. When shooting with my macro lens and the light I have it does this. Pushrods are very shiny like the real one, but it doesnt show up here. Aaron

Here are some more progress shots. Progress has been slow. Spending time on the real one as well. Bottom holes filled so nav light can be placed properly, also side holes are slightly off. Filler around top glare panel as well. Fill job looks worse than it is. I use miliput which sands very easy when wet.

    Small dia wire

I am looking for somthing that is solid as it will be used for pushrods and I I need it straight and not flexible. I like aluminum because is can be polished to a high shine as well. thanks for the input guys.

    Small dia wire

Anyone have a good source for solid aluminum wire with a diameter of .020? Ive tried K&S but they dont have it that small? Maybe something like micro tubing and or needle size, seems like I had a link at one time, but lost it. Thanks Aaron
  23. Thanks guys. Can i get it at a home depot or similar, just anything that says silicon lubricant?
