  1. Well Kursad yet another decal sheet to look forward to! Thank you for putting in all the effort into producing these cool schemes.

PS Been slogging away on my North Korean MiG-29. My wife is highly amused at my obsession over this ugly paint scheme and is making frequent trips to the local hobby shop near her office to get me the supplies I need for this monstrosity.

  2. I've built it and it's a fantastic little kit. It's not as "refined" as the Fujimi kit, but mind you, Airfix never meant to go out and be better than everyone else, but rather to make quality, easy-to-build kits that are affordable and easily accessible. In this aspect they have done so brilliantly and at what a price point! The one thing Fujimi doesn't have on the Airfix kit besides pricing is how easy it was to build.

I've put up a quick picture I snapped of my phone to show you how mine turned out. This is out of box, missing a few items (I knocked off the blade antenna behind the cockpit and haven't put it back on), and I haven't put on the red and green clear paint to simulate formation light lenses and such. I rushed this - I completed this in 2 weeks for a total of 20 hours or so - so imagine how it would look if you took your time!

  3. Link doesn't seem to work for me.

Glad to see you guys were able to have one though! I miss going to the ones at the old AirZoo.

Too bad you're in Maryland, Dave. Haven't seen you since we graduated.

PS So you got the BRZ? How do you like it? I've been liking my chops at the Genesis Coupe for a while now but the BRZ is one beautiful piece of machinery.

  4. Hi Kevin,

I'm finding that the best way to get your paint to stick is to have a primer coat on, but it's too late at this point. At where you are that's not going to work unless you plan on stripping the paint and starting over. How about this? Sometimes when I want to reduce that tackiness of the tape I just stick it on the underside of my wrist and peel if off 2-3 times. I've also noticed that peeling the tape off "over itself" vs at a 90-degree angle helps sometimes.

    Good luck!

  5. Allow me to throw in another vote for the great idea that JackMan had suggested - NASA!!!!! As far as I know none of the other aftermarket decal makers have announced a NASA F-102 scheme to go along with the more usual ANG markings AND this fits in well with the occasional NASA markings on Caracal decal sheets.

    Have fun modeling!

    Mike

    Oooh I support that one

  6. I just wanted to put in a good word for Linden Hill Imports, one of my favorite online shops (though I don't get to buy as much from them as I'd like to any more :crying2: )

Anyway I ordered a couple of decal sheets from them a few weeks ago and I got it in the mail within 3 days. Unfortunately one of the sheets was badly out of register. I emailed them around Wednesday evening, and I heard back from them around 10pm that night saying "no problem. Send us the sheet and we'll replace it". So I mailed it out Friday of Labor Day weekend, and I got the replacement sheet back the following Saturday.

I've always had great service from them and Guy is a great guy (no pun intended) to talk to over the phone. One time he even remembered an order I placed with him a year ago! Keep up the good work guys!

  7. I used Hu-147.

PS - Is your built yet - if so, what did you do about the fins??

PPS - When will someone PLEEEEEESE do a set of resin replacement fins  - so I can do an Indonesian/Venezuelan/Vietnamese/Ugandan/Russian Su-30MK2.

    Hi Ken,

I haven't started mine yet - our club has a 90-day build contest starting on the 3rd week in September and I'm to bring the kit unassembled to present it at the meeting. I'm hoping to get some aftermarket fins too, but barring that I will probably build straight out of the box, along with a set of ICM's missiles.

  8. Fantastic job, Ken. Did you use Gungze Sangyo 338 or Humbrol 147 for the grey? I have Humbrol 147 but it really bothers me as the photos of the 1:1 bird appears to have a blue tint to them, and I'm not sure if it's due to atmospheric or lens distortion. Even the photos you did had a blue tint (which could again come down to the blue background).
