Thanks much! Yep, watercolor (and some markers here and there) over some pencil and roller ball pen lines - afterwards played with the image to get the red down and ended up with the purple. Should've just grayscaled it! There wasn't much definition under the cockpit to start - laziness ;-)

Not entirely pleased with this, as more purple-y than intended, but the first version was much too reddish... My Aviation Art
  9. Hey, thanks all – had been out of action for a while, and hadn't been back to see the comments. The color was indeed meant to be evocative of heat and sand – one of the last times I ever saw a Scooter (well, that was active) it was a particularly windy late summer day and I ended up getting a good sandblasting, on top of an awful sunburn, and that day sort of stuck in my mind... It is available now as a print, at: Skyhawk Driver print

  19. The tail turret of B-24D Strawberry ***** at Dayton; I am sure this (mist/smoke/smudge appearing thing in the turret)is an artifact of the camera flash and/or museum lighting bouncing around 70-year old glass surfaces that probably haven't been wiped in a while, but over the years I've read accounts that this aircraft and/or the adjacent display of relics from Lady Be Good is haunted, and did a double take when I noticed it...don't have it on any of the other shots, including of the turret.
  20. Just after takeoff from Wright-Pat; sunny day but absolutely miserable wx, as the temp was 103F. That last part of the walk from the final bit of shade to the car was...bad ;-) I shouldn't complain, as many have to deal with that and worse on a daily basis, but it's tough on the uinitiated!
