WWII aerial combat paintings? Where to buy?
babyduck5 replied to Jimd0586's topic in General Discussion
Here's another artist that I like. I have his "Electric Warrior" and "Mighty Memphis". Both are very well done. http://www.markkarvon.com/aviationartwwii2.html -
I have several items from Chris and each and every time I open the packages I stare with awe and wonderment at the finesse, engineering and casting quality of his work. Its sometimes hard to convey in pictures the true beauty that each set possesses. You need to have one I front of you, holding it close to truly appreciate his talent. He definitely is a high end craftsman and I would have no hesitation in purchasing anything that he was involved with. Jim

The problem is that he didn't ask the modeling forum for their collective opinion. He posted pics of his new product to promote the upcoming release, not to have you nit-pick the details. Again his company, his perogative. The problem is that those were your opinions, based on your interpretation of your current resource materials. And we all know that opinion are like....so maybe next time you should consider not giving opinion unless someone asks, "hey, what do you think of this..." But then again, thats just my opinion :) Jim

Check out my Nasty...my PTF Nasty that is!
babyduck5 replied to babyduck5's topic in Work in Progress
I've finally figured out how to make the 20mm base mount. I used the road wheels from a Tamiya Panther tank to make the rings. It took me forever to figure it out and now all I have left to do is make the shield and shoulder rests (boy, that'll be another 6 months ;) ). It's suppose to look like the last two photos. Let me know what you think. Jim -

Sorry for not replying sooner. But I have a new toy, and another hobby to dump cash into:crying2: Man this thing is FAST! Anyway, I am tinkering with the PTF here and there and I'm in the process now of getting the hull ready to prime. The 20 mm mounts are also still on the workbench, but I'm having a very hard time finding the right size for the ring base where the tripod attaches to the deck. Again sorry for the delay, Jim -
Great build! Your cockpit looks amazing. But what I would love to see more of is that partially built pilot lurking in the background. That looks very COOL! And where can I get one? Jim B.

Hi John, Yeah, I think your right. There is still a long road ahead! For references, this site is pretty cool (link). Great photos, technical and first-hand accounts. Unfortunately, I'm doing most of this by eye , so I'm hoping it "looks" right in the end. Most of the detail parts are coming from the Italeri PT kit. The 40 mm, the 20 mm, props and prop shafts, cleats, vents, even the dingy will work. Jim -
This is my 1/35 PTF Nasty class patrol boat. I used the Lindburgh kit with multiple cans of Bondo! I'm also using the Italeri kit for a lot of the detail pieces. I'm working on the 20 mm mounts now and finishing up the deckhouse and deck details. It's taken me a couple of years to get to this point and it will probably take me a couple of more to finish! Hope you enjoy it. If you have any questions, let me know. Jim

Boy, oh boy... I would love to see Hasegawa do: - 1/32 F4U-5N (with flaps down, of course!) - 1/32 P-51H. - 1/32 F2G Corsair(same thing with the flaps!) - 1/32 P-47N - 1/32 XP-72 - and why not, a 1/32 P-51D. If they would do these as nice as their P-47D, I would be one very happy (and poor) camper Jim Sorry, I got carried away and forgot I was in the JETS forum. Please disregard above comments

From Sprue Bros., the Eduard 1/32 P-51D dashboard for the Hasegawa, but I'm going to try to fit it into the Dragon! These things are gorgeous, BTW. Jim B.

From WallyWorld, a Revell 1/144 B-52H (not bad either), and a 21st century 1/18 TBM-1 (I think for $49.99 US). Jim -
Well guys, I'm gettin' one. I'm just gonna wait for HobbyLobby and the 40% off coupon BABY! That and for Aires to release their wheel bay and cockpit updates  Jim

Actually, they replaced the 20mm's with a single General Electric GAU-12 25mm cannon. There are some pics in Squadron's C-130 Walkaround pgs 66-67.

You know, Hasegawa made a 1/32nd QA-4M. It was a "Collectors' Hi-Grade Series kit number CH6. I got mine years ago at my LHS, but I forgot how much I paid for it. The OA-4M is one of my favorite planes. Jim

Check out this site: http://www.customreplicas.com Click on the Accurate Models button at the top. They plan to do an interior for the Mercury capsule sometime this year. And check out their Saturn V F-1 engine. It is truly amazing in its detail. Jim B.
