New Tamiya 1/72 F-14D Tomcat announced at Shizuoka Hobby Show!!!
Jetdog replied to JNordgren42's topic in Jet Modeling
Boy do I feel old- on the display and box it says "1/72 Scale Warbird Collection"! The Tomcat a Warbird? Yikes! LOL I wish they would include all parts needed in that one box to make all variants of the Tomcat. Sure the decals in this boxing will be for a -D, but how long will we have to wait for a -A or B version from Tamiya using this tooling? -
Another! NASA Glenn research Center, Cleveland, Ohio. Taken at BKL in 2008

All four OH ANG squadrons did fly the F-84F's in some some beautiful natural metal jets! Toledo used black trim rather then green at that time, but the other three units were trimmed in yellow, red or blue. The Columbus based 166 TFS is pictured here- The 164th, 162 and 166 TFS also flew F-84E's...... yet another potential sheet!
-
I second the F-100 in ANG service! Ohio flew 4 (yes 4!) squadrons of F-100s, from Toledo (green and white checkered tail stripe), Mansfield (yellow with white Ohio script), Columbus (Blue with white Ohio Script) and Springfield (red with white Ohio script).

Excellent! Really looking forward to seeing this one and whatever others are on this sheet!

ursad: I just spent two days walking around this F-16C from the Ohio Air Guard. It also appeared in these markings at the 2025 Toledo Air Show and Dayton Air Show, so its a popular subject. I have a full walkaround of 50 plus pictures of this jet- say the word and I will get them to you!

Another bump for the 1/144 B-47 sheet! So many possibilities!

Great news!

Sword is re-releasing their RF-8 as both the RF-8A and RF-8G in the same kit, complete with separate flaps and raised wing! Kursad, any chance we can get the RF-8 sheet moved up with this new development? Good RF-8 markings are needed! https://swordmodel.cz/en/coming-soon/183-sw72154-rf-8ag-photo-recon-crusader.html

Another Dark Viper idea- this F-16C from the 180th Ohio ANG in a new paint scheme!
-
Looking forward to the profiles on the 1/48 F-94A/B sheet part 2!
-
Exciting news! can't wait to see what markings they will offer!

INCREDIBLE! I just took a picture of my workshop as I am digging through the closet and organizing my stash. (hence all the boxes laying about) I will consider this my "Before" picture and will post the "after" pictures when I get finished with the room. You have set the bar incredibly high! And also given me something to show the wife that I am not singularly obsessed with this hobby!

The Maps Air Museum at the Akron Canton Airport in Ohio is currently restoring a Cutlass rescued from Walter Soplatas aircraft boneyard- information on the airframe here: https://mapsairmuseum.org/vought-f7u-3-cutlass/ And you can follow restoration progress, they post quite a few updates on the Cutlass and their other projects here: https://mapsairmuseum.org/renovation-activities-as-o-1-15-25/

Duncan did not design the kit itself. He contributed all the research to Clear Prop that went into making the kit accurate based on the real thing.

Gorgeous model! That scheme has me contemplating a Two Bobs purchase! Wish somebody had decals for the original F-16 scheme in the 90s out of New Orleans...
-
Sheet hasn't been released yet. Hopefully soon! 49-1014 is a F-86A-5-NA, so the first release of the clear prop F-86A kit is the one to use.
-
Check out the upcoming decals for the Clear Prop kit from Fundekals! An All Weather Flying Division F-86A!!! Note that the F-86A was flown out of Wright Patterson, not Clinton County. The All Weather Flying Center was transferred from Clinton County back to WPAFB in late 1948, and operations for all weather flying test were returned to Wright Patterson at that time. In addition to the F-86, the All Weather Flying Division operated the T-33A, F-94, F-89, B-45 (briefly until that plane crashed) and other aircraft in similar markings out of Wright Pat. I am doing further research into these

As far as I know, no C-119 wore AWFC colors. The profile you mention does not represent an actual aircraft, at least operated at Clinton County AFB. The unit did, however, fly a C-82, C-46E, and numerous C-47 aircraft while based there. Now its possible that the All Weather Flying Division, when moved back to Wright Field in 1948, may have operated that aircraft in those colors- though I have no documented proof.

A 1/144 C-54 sheet will be awesome! The Minicraft DC-4/C-54 is a really nice kit- Might I suggest this All Weather Flying Center C-54 as a new option?
-
Another vote for a 1/144 B-47 sheet!

See page 9 of this forum for an explanation on the drop tank hole placement. As explained, it wasn't noticed until the kit was in production and it was too late to fix.

Paul: Thanks- that F-102 short tail modification looks simple enough using a Case X Meng kit in 1/72. Thanks! Would still like to see a F-100 aftermarket tail, however!
-
In addition to the shorter tail modification on the F-102, new intakes are also required. Not sure if kit intakes can be so modified. The splitter plate is not on the original short tail intakes. The first 60+ F-102's produced were short tails. Plus, depending on the aircraft you are building, the speed brake design differed. Surprisingly, a company called Retrowings produced these modifications in 1/144 scale for the old (and not too bad) Otaki/Revell kit. I would much prefer to build it in 1/72 or 1/48 though!
