  1. In addition to the shorter tail modification on the F-102, new intakes are also required.   Not sure if kit intakes can be so modified. The splitter plate is not on the original short tail intakes.   The first 60+ F-102's produced were short tails.  Plus, depending on the aircraft you are building, the speed brake design differed.   Surprisingly, a company called Retrowings produced these modifications in 1/144 scale for the old (and not too bad) Otaki/Revell kit.  I would much prefer to build it in 1/72 or 1/48 though!

  2. Jake-  A big thank you for all that you have done for the modeling community over the last 17 years!  So many great ANG decal subjects, and such great reference materials!

That's the problem with being good at what you do- you can't do it all at once!

  3. Back to the F-86A. Please!   We have all waited for this model for years and Duncan is to be commended for all his contributions and hard work getting a correct kit of this version to market.  I have worked with Duncan on the  restoration on the F-86L at the MAPS Museum, and there is NOBODY better suited to supply correct information on the F-86. Period.  His observations about pre-Korean war markings is spot on- there are many excellent early schemes that us modelers will love to have.  Decal manufacturers release multiple schemes per sheet.  No reason there cannot be both pre- Korean and Korean markings on each sheet.   And hopefully many sheets!

Now the icing on the cake for me will be markings for this All Weather Flying Division F-86A

  4. What a fantastic idea for a thread!  Thanks for getting it started.  These planes were viewed by millions, but many questions remain for getting all the details just right!

I live a half hour from Burke Lakefront Airport in Cleveland that has two F-4 Phantoms on display, one for the T-Birds and one for the Blues. (Though neither of these specific aircraft flew with the team). The teams did fly their Phantoms in Cleveland and I got to see both teams perform.

  5. The possibilities for markings are endless- the early version -A was used during the Cuban Missile Crisis, then you have the Vietnam War, excellent bicentennial markings, there were even multi color CAG RF-8Gs.  Then of course they finished in the low visibility grays....
