  1. A few more from the event, including this Lockheed Electra 10 which recently returned home to the Czech lands after 75 years: And a few vertically oriented shots:
  2. Yesterday I visited the annual Pardubice Air Fair. The sun was relentless and heat haze was a constant problem for taking pictures, but here's a few to give you some flavour of the event:
  3. Looks great! It was high time to send the Esci moldings to the styrene boneyard. Now, I hope they'll do a 1/72 Tupolev "Fiddler" to replace the Amodel kit.
  4. Today, after four years of rebuilding and restoration in America, a 1937 vintage Lockheed Electra 10A touched down in Prague after a journey which started on May 21. It's believed to be the only airworthy example of its type anywhere. The aircraft has quite a history. It was initially intended to go to Amelia Earhart, but was instead purchased directly off the assembly line by Czech businessman Jan Antonin Bata who used it for business purposes. Shortly after the Munich Agreement was signed, the aircraft was secretly flown out of Czech territory and eventually ended up in Britain and pressed
  5. Thanks! The P.2 is an interesting piece of gear as a lot of its design incorporated parts salvaged from German WWII planes languishing in Switzerland after the war. The Swiss military needed a modern training aircraft in short order and cannibalizing the left over German planes was the most efficient way to do it. The P.2 is often used to represent generic German fighters in airshows and in films. It was a P.2 that played the part of the German fighter in "Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade" when Indy and his dad were attacked by it on the beach.
  6. I'm glad you enjoyed them, Marv. The Gripen can haul decent iron for its size. That same Gripen also had Iris-T missiles on the wingtips.
  7. Awesome stuff, Ken. Up to your usual standard.
  8. As I mentioned in my first post about this event, the weather was far from optimal for photography. Grey skies and grey planes aren't a great mix, but I think these shots are presentable enough to give you some idea of the goings on of the day: A Swedish Gripen cleans up its gear after take off and returns later as part of a special ten plane, international formation of Gripens to mark ten years of Czech operations with the type: One of the busier performers at the show was This CASA 295: A Zlin 381 and Spitfire Mk.XVI were among the vintage performers: A couple of shots of the
  9. Yesterday was the biannual open day at the Czech air base at Caslav, which is in the central part of the Czech Republic. Caslav is home to the Czech fleet of Saab Gripens and the show coincided with the end of an international exercise on Gripen operations so there were several more of the type than usual around. 2015 also marks the tenth anniversary of on the Gripen in Czech service, so there were a couple of extras marking that event. The show was a decent mix of military, civil, modern and vintage aircraft. In spite of less than optimal photography weather, it was a good day out: First in
  10. Cool stuff. My girlfriend has been to Washington a couple of times on business and she went to that museum on one of the trips and quite enjoyed it. I hope to get there myself sometime, but it's not always possible to tag along with her on those trips.
  11. Hello all, A bit earlier today at Čáslav air base in the central part of the Czech Republic, a Hungarian Gripen crashed during landing. Thankfully, both crew members ejected with no injuries. The plane was there as part of an international exercise called "Lion Effort 2015" http://www.afbcaslav.cz/index.php/zpravy/458-accident-during-the-landing-maneuver I hate to see a good plane lost, but it can be replaced.
  12. RIP and deep condolences to his nearest and dearest. However, we can take comfort that 89 is a good high number. His was a life well and truly lived and he kept his faculties together right up to the end.
  13. They will get your order filled, eventually. Just don't use them if time is an issue for you. I've used them twice and even being in the same country as they are, orders can take a good long while to turn around.
  14. Most interesting, thanks for the info.
  15. Why are the unit markings on a sheet for a Viggen those of F-104 era Luftwaffe units JaboG 33 and JaboG 36?
  16. As long as Trumpeter hoses the Su-24 wing tanks badly enough to encourage the aftermarket to furnish us with replacements that I can hang under the wings of my Streem kit, I'll be happy.
  17. Further reading of the 8 TFW page I linked to in my above post does not mention 63-7654 specifically in the many listings of wing aircraft movements, but does say that the wing's last F-4C, 64-0723, was transferred out in March of 1968.
  18. According to this, it was assigned to the 8th TFW at Ubon RTAFB in autumn of 1965: http://www.8tfw.com/pages/8thhistory1965.htm "Apparently the orders had already been issued for the 8 TFW to deploy to Ubon RTAFB, Thailand. On and about 2 September numerous 8 TFW F-4C, not from the 68 TFS, were listed at Ubon RTAFB: 63-7641, 63-7643, 63-7644 (Clark AB on 9/10), 63-7645, 63-7652, (6200 MW, Clark AB 2-26/9), 63-7656, 63-7654, 63-7665 (to Hill AFB depot on 22 October), 63-7673, 63-7680, 63-7683 (>Clark AB on 18/10), 63-7686, 63-7687, 63-7694, 63-7700, 63-7710, 63-7712, 64-0863 (6200 MW 1/9-)
  19. That looks absolutely stunning. It might just get me to take up 1/48 scale again.
  20. But what if the book wasn't really worth more than two or three paragraphs?
  21. In Eduard's "Brassin" product range, there are a couple of Russian/Soviet missile and rocket sets that come with ground transport/loading carts http://www.eduard.com/store/Eduard/Brassin/Rocket-launcher-B-8M1-and-loading-cart-1-48.html http://www.eduard.com/store/Eduard/Brassin/RS-2US-AA-1-Alkali-service-cart-1-48.html
  22. They'll be talking and getting nostalgic about that for the rest of their lives. Definitely a story that will get told to their grandkids.
  23. In 1/72, ICM has ZiL-131, Zil-157 and Ural-4320 based fuel trucks to chose from.
  24. I'd keep the A-4K, A-7E, F3H, F-111 and P-39 for sure.
