  1. Hi. Would an EF-111 be OK for this GB?
  2. Thanks for the comments guys. Sorry for the lack of updates, I'm a slow builder. Anyway after a few rounds of seam fixing, painting is next. First up, Vallejo Black Gloss Primer as a base Then Vallejo Metal Color Aluminium. These are really easy to airbrush slightly thinned. Dries fast and is quite tough. I decided to add some variations in color so it's onto masking after giving the base metal color 24 hours to cure. 1.5 hrs of masking for 5 minutes of work with Vallejo Metal Color Dull Aluminium. I can't say it's accurate to do this sort of variation, but I think it adds some int
  3. First time joining a GB on ARC. :) My Tamiya 1/72 P-51D will be wearing the colors of AURI (Angkatan Udara Republik Indonesia aka Indonesian Air Force) from the late 1950s. Markings will be of F-338 piloted by Ignatius Derwanto who shot down a CIA B-26 over Ambon, Indonesia. Decals are from a local decal designer here in Indonesia. Only one minor detail needs to be scratchbuilt for this one, all else will be out of the box. Details are quite nice for the scale which unfortunately can't quite be seen anymore once everything is closed up. Interior was painted, given a dark gray wash and drybr
  4. Apologies if this is the wrong forum to post this Like the Snowspeeder kit, this Bandai kit was pretty much trouble-free. It has excellent details and pretty good poseability. I gave this kit a mild weathering of salt chipping, handpainted chipping, oil paint wash, drybrushing and dusting via airbrush. In hindsight, the chipping seems too random so it's something to improve on. I also added colored ID bands to break up the monotonous colors of the Stormtrooper armor. I hope Vader doesn't mind. The figure was then placed on the included base with some custom groundwork. This is build 9 of 20
  5. Thanks! And thanks for pointing out my brain fart :) Corrected.
  6. This was quite a problematic build for me. I was expecting the biggest challenge to be the bare metal finish since it's my attempt at it. But it turned out to be the most problem-free aspect of the whole build. BMF done with Vallejo Air Metal which was easy to use and surprisingly robust to rough handling. Everything else was Vallejo acrylic paints. All OOB with the only modification being drooping the open air brakes as seen on the real thing. No panel lining this time as I had a lot of trouble with the decals and wasn't sure how they would react to the panel lining. This is build
  7. This is my first every helicopter and raised panel line build. The kit is a rebox of the Italeri mold and has various fitting issues which I tried to fix as best as I can. It's been given the camouflage that the AH-1W wore in the 1980s and minimally weathered. After the photos were taken I noticed the very obvious white/grayish lines around the canopy sills. I'm guessing this is dried Tamiya Polishing Compound. Anyway this is build 7 of 2016. Moving on... All comments welcome > More pictures and write-up on my site
  8. Thanks all for the kind comments. It's also one of my 'must do' schemes since I first saw it :)/> For this build, I switched to a much smaller (and quieter) compressor than my diaphragm Sparmax. I think it's a fishpump that outputs only at max 15psi. Using a 0.3 airbrush, 15psi is enough with my usual thinning with Windex (3 drops for every 10 drops of paint) and straight out of the bottle with Model Air. I then add 2 drops of Tamiya Retarder to slow drying times. Also reduces the dried tip problem with acrylic paints. But on my 0.2 airbrush I need to thin the paint more. I suspect it'
  9. This build depicts an A-4E operated by TOPGUN wearing one of the more distinctive Adversary schemes in the 1980s with the silhouette of a MiG-17 painted on its fuselage. The kit came together quite easily with mistakes entirely my own making. Decals are partially DIY (not by choice) otherwise, this is an OOB build. Anyway, onwards with the next imperfect build. :) More pictures and build write-up on my site. All comments welcome.
  10. Thanks all for the kind comments The only visible seamline is on the laser barrel tips. Otherwise, it pretty much falls together in place without a single drop of cement. As for weathering, I tried all the usual methods for this one: salt chipping, sponge chipping, oil wash, color pencil and handpainting. I wrote a step-by-step that I did here > http://www.rocketpunch.biz/2016/04/20/project-148-bandai-snowspeeder-2/. Do take a look. The canopy glass was simply wiping with a wet cotton bud over a light dusting of paint.
  11. May the Fourth be with you everyone! Hope it's OK for this forum since it's sci-fi. :)/>/> This was built completely OOB but it's my first attempt at heavy weathering. Turns out it's not easy to make things look random at all. But it's a good practise and the build turned out very well and very problem-free for once. More pictures on my site. All comments welcome.
  12. The hub and spinner was first painted black grey. Then I handpainted steel over the hub. The tips of spinners were handpainted deep yellow over foundation white. These were all Vallejo paints. The bottom is supposed to be FS36176 which I don't have a paint for. So it's just a dark grey I have that I lightened by guesstimate based on the photos I see online. HTH
  13. My first military model kit of the year. Built OOB. I made quite a lot of tiny mistakes and got sloppy with the glosscoat but otherwise, quite a simple build. The thing is very big in real-life! More details and photos on my site. All comments welcome!
  14. Hi Joel. The yellow stripes are from the kit decal sheet. Printed by Cartograph, they are surprisingly easy to put on though very (very) small.
  15. Thanks for the kind comments. White Wolf - I had to sand down the front portion of the center portion of the wing, dry fit, and sand till it fit properly. Not too bad.
  16. Completed another shelf queen. OOB with decals from Wolfpak. Done with all acrylics. Markings are of 'Nickel 103', the Crusader that claimed the first air-to-air victory over Vietnam. All comments welcome! Build report and more pictures on my website...
  17. Thanks for all the kind comments. Let's hope I don't have to wait another 2 years before I have something else to contribute to ARC. :)
  18. First finished kit since 2012. :) Done strictly OOB with only aftermarket markings for Pierre Clostermann, the highest scoring French Ace of WW2. Kit was completely done with Acrylic paints except for final flat coat using Krylon. Quite a few mistakes made but it's a decent start of the hobby again. More photos on my website. All comments welcome!
  19. Thanx for the comments! :) @ Gonzalo - Nope. Only the VF-1 and YF/VF-19 are available in 1/48 so far.
  20. This was a completely OOB build. > Full gallery here All comments welcome!
  21. Thanx! Hmmm Superscale has 516's bu# as 155013... Does that mean then that 516 was not tasked with Iron Hand? Because AFAIK, the RHAW-107 was used for the Iron Hand mission. I was planning to arm the plane with 2 Shrikes and 2 Rockeyes. This is getting more and more complicated :) although from the few photos I could gather from the web, seems like the bent probed A-4s were almost always paired with the RHAW-107 bump instead of the normal spikes.
  22. Actually, that is the picture that prompted me to post in the first place :). As you can see, there are A-4s from the same squadron sporting both bent probe/RHAW-107 bump and straight probe/spike. I have decals for 516 but can't find pictures of this particular one on the 'net.
  23. Hi everyone. Been checking out skyhawk.org but couldn't find the answers. Hoping someone here can help: 1. Is it safe to assume that all A-4Fs have the bent refueling probe and the RHAW-107 bump (instead of the spike) under the nose? 2. Are the rest of the spikes present on the A-4F? This is for a VA-55 A-4F operating out of USS Hancock in the early 1970s.
  24. Thanx guys! I found more mistakes Vallejo Model Color You already did sir! At Peter's place...
  25. Hi everyone, Here's my 3 year in progress build (it survived intact through me having a kid, had 1 more coming, moved house twice and moved between countries once). Lots of mistakes made (10 at last count) but lessons have been learned and I'm moving on. I'm just glad I finished. :) Mods are: Resin ejection seat from Legend Productions My good friend Gerald contributed a scratchbuilt oxygen tube in the cockpit (which can’t really be seen unless you peer into the canopy) Scratchbuilt RWR sensors on the wings Scratchbuilt AOA vanes on the nose Scratchbuilt static discharger
