    B-52 in Black

The "D" used the standard jungle colors that everyone else used over there. 34012 med. green, 34079 dark green, 30219 dark tan, and gloss black. The "G" and "H" were in SAC colors. Even when the "G" was deployed to South East Asia, they kept their SAC paint jobs. I have the pictures to prove it.

    B-52 in Black

I spent a year at U-Tapao during the war. We had a lot of 52s there as well as tankers. The 52s were painted gloss black on the sides and bottom and the tail was also gloss black while the top was painted the typical S.E.A. scheme. There was also a reflective stripe on the outboard side of the wing tank that went from the front tip to the rear tip. The wheel wells were mostly chromate green although some had yellow. I even saw on with a yellow gear door while the others were green. For a while we also had some "G" models. They were painted the typical paint scheme for their type and per
  3. Thanks for the information, it's appreciated. One other thing, were the tires back then rubber colored or black?
  4. Would it still be available somewhere?
  5. As long as we're on the P-26, what color would the interior be? I just started one with the Eduard PE set.
  6. The drop tanks normally had two single black lines on the bottom of the tanks that went part way up the sides. The missiles would have rings painted around them at certain locations and in specific colors and in some cases differing thicknesses. When in doubt check look for reference photos.
  7. According to an old book that I've got, Combat Squadrons of the Air Force-World War II, they list the emblem as Follows: A falcon about to strike, against a red disc. (Approved 4 Mar 1924 form World War I emblem.) This book lists all the squadrons in numerical order as well as their lineage, aircraft flown plus dates flown, awards won, stations, assignments, and other data. Try this, they flew the Fokker D 7 in 1921 and the YP-43 and C-40 from 1939-1941. Hoped this helped some.
  8. What series were the Saturn Air stretch 130s and does anyone make decals for them?

    Siam Scale Decals

Microscale used to make decals for the S-2 tracker for the Thai Navy. I intend to do one of their HU-16s. Squadron listed a decal set for the Siam air force. That might be as close as you can get. I may have to make my own roundels and letters.
  10. In 1974 Korat had a squadron from Myrtle Beach but they left later in the year. That left the 3rd TFS. For a while some still carried the shark mouth. After a while all shark mouths were removed with the tail codes being shanged to black. It wasn't unusual to see a ship with white codes sitting on the end of the runway next to one with black codes. I don't remember seeing squadron or wing badges on their aircraft.
  11. That's the one. They usually carried two or three on a TER.
  12. I see someone's been to Korat. When I was there the A-7s of the 3rd TFS kept a few ships on sandy alert. Several times I saw them carry another type of pod with a tapered end that looked like a Matra pod in reverse. I've been told that they were bomb dispencers. I noticed the MB tail code of the 354th TFW. If you want an unusual mouth, I had a set of molar decals made up for a/c #354. You can contact Fighting Pirannha Graphics and ask for them. The only thind you would need is the wing decal. I had a set made for 1/72 and 1/48.
  13. Speaking of fire trucks, does anyone make a model of airforce fire vehicles? This would include the monster P-40 truck that they got in at Kadena.
  14. I just looked at my P-26C kit and. Without having the two exact colors on hand at the moment I'm guessing that the colors listed are accurate. The decals in my copy have the indian head with the white 13 and checking a small book shows that the 94th did carry these markings. During WWI they used the hat in the ring emblem which they dropped for some reason. I'm not sure when they began using it again but it re-appears later on the F-86D and F-106. My sheet has an extra set of markings with blue triangles but Ididn't see any explaination for them. I have seen these markings when they wer
  15. While I was in the Air Force even we called the Forrestall the crew and other navy personnel would call it the Forest Fire. Naturally when we talked with the ship we would never mention it.
  16. One thing you could do is have the wings folded. Airwaves has a PE set for the F-4and occasionally I would see one of our F-4s with the wings up while in the reventments. Liberty Wing?

    F-111A

I remember in 1974 when the 428th and 429th TFS moved from Taklhi to Korat they had a black tail, and undersides and carried two ecm pods centerline starting about where the main landing gear was. Each squadron carried its color band on the top of the tail just under the IR blister.
  18. As I have only seen one real target tow tracker and it was on our transit ramp as it passed through, I'm not sure if I have what you need. I do however have some Hasegawa dart tow sets if you need them.
  19. What scale do you need? I should have what you need in either 1/72nd or 1/48th.
  20. From what I've been told by hen Maj McFarland, the eagle was stripped of everything not necessary for braaking records. This even included the radar and all combat avionics. When I worked under McFarland in 1981, he was a full Colonel. Not bad, two ranks in so short a time period.
  21. Quick question. When the new Battlestar was releasedon disc, the released the U.K. version. What's the difference between that and the U.S. release?

    Tamiya

Not long ago I had to replace a front canopy for a 1/32 F-15. I used one from my strike eagle because of time and called Tamiya USA. They had me fax a copy of the front of the instruction sheet. I acoipied the page with the part I needed on it, cut that part to the original, and faxed a copyto them. They sent me the complete clear sprue at no charge.
  23. Prime it! The first time I tried a resin conversion it came out well but I didn't prime it. The result was that the decals disolved and for all intents and purposes, after three years, it never dried. It was like it had dried at one point but then became soft again.
  24. If I remember right they were about 15 or 20 feet high. I remember that they would end up with grass and small bushes sprouting on top and occasionally from behind one of the verticle supports. Once in a while ther would also be traces of rust starting to form. They were also a real pain to have to climb up on for a foot patrol and check after an incident.
  25. I just got a box from a friend up north with an A-37, Kingfisher, F-15C, DO-335, P-51A, F-4C, A-7D and Typhoon. He's getting rid of all his 1/48th kits.
