    C-130

I didn't know they ever made one. When I did a model of my wife's C-130 I had to make one out of either wood or layers of plastic I glued together. It wasn't that hard, try it. For all I know, I might still have it in my spares area. I also did the flight deck area as well as the aviaonics bay and some of the cargo area..
  2. It makes me wonder now what marking was used on the B-52 after it shot down a mig. I got lucky one night and happened to find a guy dressed in a flight suit trying to find his way down the street. Being the thoughtful cop that I was, I offered him a ride to his barracks and he turned out to be the first tail gunner to shoot down a mig . He told me how it happened, and that he was just coming back from the party they gave him. I never had a chance to go out and get a shot of his aircraft because my main responsibility was the main part of the base except during alerts or when assigned to Ph
  3. Have you tried Federation Models?
  4. So what would be the actual grey color of teh A-1 back in the 60s?
  5. When the A.F. pulled the A-1s for use with the V.N.A.F., they were Painted in Navy colors. And for a time only the markings, such as snit markings changed. Standard A.F. camouflage and markings were added. I went with my Father to the A.F. Museum back when I got drafted and the A-1 that was used to pick up a downed pilot was on display just inside the gate, andit was painted in Nave colors. Back then a large portion of the aircraft were still sitting outside and some were still waiting to be unloaded from flatbed train cars or sitting partly removed from the other aircraft. When M
  6. When I was growing up there were no actual hobby shops. I would get a chance once in a while to get to a small department store or maybe a drug store for kits and supplies, such as they were. My Father gave me a set of Tweezers from his old Watch repair kit and I would have to use some of his double edged razor blades from his shaving supplies. Outside of the base hobby units run by M.W.R>l when I was overseas during the war, I didn't wee a rea hobbl shop intil I hit Little Rock A.F.B. after my second tour in 1975. This store was just outside the main gate and on the highway access

Good job. I have that one that I'm waiting on a gun pod or coffin to build in my favorite squadron, the 5th F.I.S.
  8. For something a little different on a F-4e, at Korat as the war started to shut down for us, someone decided to have all shark mouths on any aircraft removed as they were deemed too warlike at that point. As the order went out the noses of all aircraft were cleaned. Then the sharkmouth started to appear on aircraft anyway, but not on the nose. The F-111s had a mouth on their forward ECM pod centerline under the fuselage. The F-4s from the 34th TFS had them painted on the top of the AIM 9 rails just a little back from the front. Eventually some maint. supervisor of someone much higher up
  9. I have a slide of that same aircraft. I got it at Korat in 1974. I might have gotten it from a F-4 pilot from the 34th TFS. I always wondered what he was carrying.
  10. I remember seeing the black F-4s show up at Korat from time to time. When the 34th TFS had to turn over their "E" models to the Wolf Pack and return with their "D' models in 1974, I think we ended up with a few of the black bellies. The pilots were not happy about the exchange they had to make. I loaned my camera to one of the pilots who took some interesting shot during the trip. Unfortunately my camera jammed before they got to Ubon so I missed getting a shot of a "E" model carrying two extra gun pods and he couildn't get a shot of a flight of Migs sneaking across the border way down low

    OG BSG Viper

Good job. I have the launch rail kit and will be building it for the Carrillon mission with the extra plates over the canopy glass. My only problem is that I might need new decals, I don't trust the looks of the old original ones.
  12. A good detailed model of the H-3, H-53, and of course the H-43with its interior and parts for its variation and fire supression pack.
  13. Back when I was in high school one of my teachers said he had visited a place where they were working on the new missiles, probably the AIm 9B. He said they had one on a stand at the far end of the room and someone in the group was picked to light their cigarette lighter or a match. The person was asked to move around as they watched the fins on the missile move to track the heat source like it was flying. He said it was ver impressive and he wished they had tahe back in the war, it would have stopped a lot of German fighters. The Kadena F-15 back then carried the AIM 9 J or L series
  14. If it helps, the B-10 at the Air Force museum is the only aircraft left. It was found during a Airshow in Brazil I believe it was in 1973. According to the guys that went to the show in a C-5A from Dover, it was in a hanger and being used as a maint. training device. Sometime after the show, an agreement was reached and another C-5 was sent to bring it to Dover for a short time before it was taken to Wright Patterson for restoration. I never got a chance to see it because I decided not to go on the flight to Brazil and when it was at Dover I was at Lackland going through combat school to g
  15. I was at Kadena when they started to get F-15s. The first ones to arrive were put into a hanger at Kadena for a couple days and when they came out their Japanese markings were on them. A few months later one of the Captains in our office walked in with a piece of paper telling us we aren't going to believe what happened at Naha. It seems that there was a Russian bomber heading our way. Nothing unusual about that they did this all the time. The J.A.S.D.F. squadron had a couple of their new fighters taxiing down to take off and make the intercept. Unfortunately the first ship had an
  16. I'm still using photobucket after all this time. This is the only forum where I have a problem posting. I took a look at you M.A.C. patch under a magnifying glass, not what I expected, but understandable. I worked flight operations for a time and was in the 32nd T.A.S. at Little Rock for a time.
  17. So what do I have to do to post pictures these days? It just isn't the same if you can't post pictures, so I left for a while in the hopes that this problem might be fixed.
  18. I'd love to find a kit of the Pedro. I flew several recon missions over and in the area around our base during my two tours during Vietnam. I was in four near misses with other aircraft, a light fight with a person in the jungle who used a held held search light and we took out a car that was running guns by blinding him with our lights.
  19. As much as some dislike photobucket, I still use it. However For some time I have not been able to post photos here. What's the trick to it? I have no problems anywhere else.
  20. During my second tour for the Vietnam war the C-130 gunships used mostly black with a camoflaged top on the A models and the H models were black overall. Then one day a H was flying around the base and eventually landed that was a light grey with its tail markings, WP, painted a slightly darker color. This aircraft would show up a few more times and never again. Some time after that the H models started getting a grey paint job that was darker. I have a shot of they original grey model as well as a H with just one engine nacelle grey and the rest black, and then there was grey with a black

    B52D At OIA.

The "D' model was always my favorite. During the war a set of tankers and at least 3 "D" would launch to hit their targets somewhere in South East Asia. Sometimes they would not return for hours and once in a while a mission would come in for a landing in a much shorter time. Many times at least one out of a cell of three would come back with hung bombs. I saw one land just past the markers and when the chute door opened the entire parachute went rolling down the runway. Evidently it was not connected properly if at all. The bomber took the entire runway plus a bit more. It went through
  22. Thanks for the missing parts. It's been a long time since I went over the story and even then I didn't get all of it. I remember having a C-5 land at Utapao in 71 and getting a shot of it from a Pedro copter. That M-715 truck looked pretty small againist it. I saw a lot more of them in 73 when I was at Dover and even got to fly in one for a airshow in Cleveland.
  23. Back in the days of Spooky, in the lae 60s, there was an incident where one of the flares malfunctioned and ignited in the aircraft. One of the guys in the back took the burning flare and carried it to the cargo door and managed to drop it out before there was any serious damage. As a result, he received the medal of honor and I think was medically discharged due to his injuries, which were sever, most likely losing the use of his hands.
  24. I sed to hit some small stores outside Kadena's gate 2 that were on side streets. I think the other store by Shimas was called Franks and wasn't that far away, only a few blocks. I would hit several stores each payday after going to the base bank and loading up on yen, sometimes 20,000 or more.
  25. The NX has been one of my favorite ships since the show came out. I may try to have one ready for the next Modelpalooza this year.
