  1. I noticed when looking at the Carl Vinson website that CVW-17, HQ'd at NAS Oceana is flying in the Pacific with AA tail letters. I recall that the Enterprise with CVW-1 operated for a time off Japan and Korea a few years ago on a "world" cruise with AB tail letters. Also the Nimitz, Ronald Reagan, George Washington had transited from the Atlantic to the Pacific with mostly Atlantic based quadrons (cept for the Prowlers).
  2. Here is the updates... Completing the pier build up Closer look at the piers.. pier painting and bottom water base complete Carriers almost done needing armament.. more painting.. then the dreaded PE work.
  3. Its Tamiya kit.. you can find it online.. however for 1945 you need to kitbash the island with the Hornet..
  4. Yes 1/700 scale.. here is some updated views as I am building up the piers...Crane comes from Loos Cannon Productions.
  5. Here is ny current project.. a naval diorama depicting Alameda Naval Station 1945.. the photo .. the project
  6. Looks like an A model to me... however if you are a rivet counter..then someone should be chiming in...
  7. Im thinking about doing a present day variation with the Block 52.. Sniper Pod.. HTS ... ALQ184... AGM-88....that will be cool... Yeah the Wingman series..that was a wild novel... I think though the best part of that series was when they went back to where it began...telling how the aircrews were flying in the USAF... Elvis and the F-4G Wild Weasel...that seemed more authentic then the rest of the series.
  8. Article over on F-16.net with pictures showing Thunderbird F-16A with AIM-9s and MK-82s and now only did they arm it they fired the gun and dropped the bombs... this will be my next project! http://www.f-16.net/f-16_forum_viewtopic-t-13673.html
  9. The VH-3D is 99.95% complete... I just need to add a few more antennas ... but really just like it the way it is... the only critical item on this is that I should of made use of windows from other kits when modifying the windows. The countermeasures tubes underneath should also have been better made. But overall it looks good. THE VH-60N VIP Blackhawk is next... and the kit needs some modifying! Which will be part of the article I will write for ARC... HMX-1 White Tops!
  10. Excellant work! I've built a few weaselsl myself. The only thing though is the backseat instrument panel is for an F-4E. Otherwise its just great detailing

  12. Added some decals... and Testors "Wet Look" gloss. Working on adding the sponsons tonight and the beam and wheels...
  13. One of the harder areas to work with and I'm going to give myself some creative leeway. Sanded down the padded areas around the sponsons and enclosed the starboard sponson rear rear area. The right sponson should be similar in dimension to the one on the left with the droop at the rear but I decided on dont have the energy to increast the length so I'm leaving it as it is. The APU unit that sitting on top of the right sponson - it has taken me weeks to figure out how to get it - balsa wood.. styren... as I was going through some spare parts last night I noticed that the 1/48 Hasegawa weapon
  14. Did the main paintjob today.. need to touch up a few areas ... theres a few rough edges to deal with as well.. but paint makes a difference..
  15. The Army and the Air Force have a portion of their helicopter pilots qualify for shipborne operations for sometime. Back in the early 90s.. we had MH-53 Pave Lows always coming out from Kadena to land aboard amphibs and during the tanker crisis in the mid 80s... special ops 58s were aboard destroyers/cruisers in the Persian Gulf taking out Iranian DOWs and speedboats.
  16. More work - added door hinges, presidential seal panel and some other panels, along with other bumps that I seen in photographs along with the base for a couple countermeasure cylinders and a larger housing on the aft left underside. Filled in the three deep dimples. Added two antenna bases to the spine along and extended the area behind the little dome. Added the the base for the countermeasure cylinder and a couple of the other bumps I see in pics. Going to go ahead and scribe the small panel on the nose and will add the other antennas after painting.
  17. Yep I got that but there are actually few interior shots I can reference ... there's Marine One at the Reagan library but I've decided to forgo the inside detailing :).
  18. I've finally settled back in and now have the time to finish this model that I started for the 2006 Helo Group Build. The decals came all the way from Australia... There has been alot of progress since I continued working on this kit a couple weeks ago. Here are a couple pictures. Here's the right side where I sanded down the cargo door and placed two additional windows... added the dome antenna on the spine and a larger housing on the bottom near the forward area both done with balsa. Additional smaller antennas on the spine are in progress as well as another housing on the left side b
