  1. Im not fond of enamels as I've experimented with them over the years. I've had a decent time with Tamiya acrylics and Polly Scale is a bit better, but hard on your air gun nozzle. I have no experience whatsoever with Gunze Sangyo lacquers but I hear they are incrdible and Im thinking of employing them on an upcoming project. It doesn't seem easy to find them. Any experience using the last, and what do you guys like to use? Where can I get the Gunze Sangyo... EJ
  2. Check this out.. I finally bought myself an Iwata air gun. Picked myself up an Eclipse HP-CS the other day. Last week, I tried one at a local art supply store, and the trigger and action felt so precisely smooth that I just had to grab it. So, I make the purchase at another retailer, (saved about 40 bucks in doing so) and brought it on home and tried it out. Brand new right outta the box just tlike one I used at the other store. I noticed that the trigger did not feel as smooth as the previous one. When you press the trigger down, its someone stiff however pulls back just as smooth as the in
  3. Thank you all so much for the advise and input. You guys are the best. EJ
  4. I visited a paint supply store today and had a nice chat with one of the employees, who is also an airbrush artist. Cool stuff this guy does. So anyway, he was telling me of a method he employs to mix paint to achieve perfect atomization before introducing to his airgun. He takes the mixed paint, puts it into a small closed jar then places it inside of a SONIC CLEANER for an hour or so. He tells me that this will achieve near like perfection with no blemishes in the paint at all. So, what are your opinions? Personally I think it sounds great however Iv'e never tried it or heard of anyone els
  5. Im just curious as to some of the methods which are employed to establish hosed and wires in landing gears, and wells. EJ
  6. Thanks for sending the link to those images you took of it. If I already did not have the Black Box set in my possession, it would be a no brainer but Im still trying to figure out a way to justify the purchase of the Aires. I cant believe how crisp that set is. Have you started it yet? EJ
  7. Ok Ive been out of the modeling loop for well over a year now and I noticed the Aires cockpit for the F-14A in 32. Ive seen a few images and it looks outstanding howver is it worth almost another 35 bucks more than its Teknics competitor? That is, if you can still get a Teknics pit.. EJ
  8. Can somebody direct me to both of these web sites?

    F-15J

I need some assistance in locating a 1/48 resin ejection seat for this project. Im building a Hasegawa F-15J in aggressor scheme... I cant seem to locate any resin seats.. Does BB still make the Aces II seat? Anyway, I really cant find much referecne as far as weathering and cockpit photos. If any of you guys have access could you shae some images? Thanks.. EJ
  10. First.. This is interesting. During the thinning stage of a panel line wash, Ive noticed when mixing the enamel paint with mineral spirits the paint breaks apart in hundreds of little "specs" rendering it pretty useless. Now, when thinning with turpentine the paint thins magnificent.. The only problem is that when I wipe away the excess paint, the base coat comes with it even though its acrylic.. Suggestions please.. Second.. I sprayed some PollyScale white and noticed little tiny cracks on the finished plastic. Hmmm.. Why? Good things to all!! -- EJ
  11. JohhnyMac, I built that same kit w/same markings at or around 3 years ago. Iv'e been thinking about taking new pictures of it and giving it more detail. I love the weathering on yours. I love that dull cloudy look on Navy jets. The rainbow w/Felix on the black tails looks awesome. Thank for sharing that with us!! Ed
  12. I've heard this used before by modellers when describing weathering. I know that its a "wash." I have used enamel washes in the past but Im wondering if a varnish is better as Ive seen really good results. What is is exactly and how is it applied? I read somewhere that this guy use a "marabu" wash. Im not sure if Im spelling it right or not but maybe you guys know. Ed
  13. If any one has a site that has some good reference photos, send the link if you can please. Ed
  14. Considering Im going with VFA-103, which is better. Who has seen both and can tell me whats better as far as quality and fit. I believe that due to the sqaudron Im building the BB pit will be more accurate. However if the Aires is that much better, well.. I guess Ill go with another group.. Thanks for the input. Iv'e always favoured the Tomcat but two weeks ago I saw a Hornet at an air show and I think I'm hooked on it. Ed
  15. Before I go ahea and tackle this kit, is there any area that I should be concerned about that may cause a problem? This will be my 1st Hornet. In looking at the instructions, the gear seems a little tricky as Hasegawa really jammed lots of small numbers and parts onto the bottom of a page. I don't have the Aires cockpit set in my possesion yet, however it seems as if the combing on the kits two front fuselage halves need to be surgically removed to accomodate the resin piece. Let me know. Im going to search for a review.. EJ
