  1. The Italeri kit has the side walls, at least on mine. I haven't seen Revell's to confirm whether or not it does, however.
  2. Finally, something worth uploading some progress photos: One Two Obviously I'm not finished sanding the rear end. It'll probably take the better part of a week to clean up, rescribe and move on to the next challenge (repainting parts of the cockpit). I'm happy with the fins that came with the kit, too. They're about the right shape and size, although I did have to make some alterations. The nozzles will be from an Italeri Su-34 kit. A little surgery should be enough to make them swiveled.
  3. I understand that the rear of the nozzle is variable diameter, but what interests me is the forward end (that which meets the rear fuselage, and seems to be of a fixed diameter). That's the point of contention between these different kit nozzles. Another complicating factor is that, since I'm building the Zvezda Su-37 as well, it seems to require a bigger nozzle. The Su-34 version, which as mentioned before, is larger, seems to fit okay, but obviously does not fit the Airfix rear end at all. I'm curious which nozzle is the more accurate diameter, compared with the real AL-31F.
  4. I've been puzzled over the nozzle diameter of the AL-31F and its variants. Sources state between 1.28m and 1.14m for the "maximum" diameter (which I assume is for the nozzle itself). I'm trying to decide if I should use the Airfix nozzles on my Su-27 and -37 (~.63" in 1:72) or the Italeri Su-34 nozzles (~.687"). There's also the Aires set, although I don't remember the diameter off-hand. I do recall that they seemed too big, and I know they're fitted for the Hasegawa kit. Any Flanker experts who might know (Ken Duffey, please)?
  5. Is it too much to ask for an accurate, Hasegawa-quality Su-27? Pretty please?
  6. Third on the list. The only place I've seen it so far is a Chilean online store, with no sprue shots or finished photos.
  7. I had to make a slight, but significant, change to the spine/body interface on the dorsal area. The spine's too blended on the kit, so I had to make it more pronounced by sanding the area around it to make it more flat. Of course, I lost all of the scribe lines in that area, but it shouldn't take long to re-establish them. The scary thing is, I'm considering building the Zvezda Su-35 to compliment it.
  8. Update... I've finished cleaning up the aircraft and now I've moved on to scribing, which is tricky since I don't have many points of reference. Given all the rework I've had to accomplish, all of the raised panel lines were erased, so I've made a few mistakes in placing new engraved lines. I'm using bondo to fill in any errant lines, or fix any that I screwed up (the scribe has a tendency to travel). Here's what I have so far: http://i7.tinypic.com/21b3pj6.jpg http://i7.tinypic.com/21b3q86.jpg http://i7.tinypic.com/21b3qkm.jpg I'll have to reposition the IFR slot since I've relocated
  9. I haven't seen decals for it in any scale, including 1:32 for the Trumpeter kit. Regarding the needed mods, that's something I'm already planning for. I have drawings for both the baseline Fulcrum and the M variant, including b/n 156 specifically. The biggest changes seem to include the enlarged spine behind the cockpit, beavertail between the engines, added chord to the tailplanes with dogtooth, and deletion of the dorsal intakes. The OVT demonstrator also seems to be missing its IRST, but has the mount for it in place.
  10. I'm planning to convert a 1:72 Fulcrum into the MiG-29OVT (MiG-35) demonstrator, but I haven't found any decal sets beyond the new Swifts paint scheme, which is still considerably different. Are there any aftermarket sets in the pipeline, or in consideration, at least?
  11. I guess I'm glad the article states it's a one-off airframe, and that the next one will be built to production standard. I won't have to make *that* many changes to my Italeri kit. If it's even more different, of course....
  12. This started in early April, and it's been slow progress since then. I've only recently installed the intakes after spending a couple of weeks dealing with how to paint and detail them. It's the (infamous) Zvezda kit, but I think I've identified the biggest flaws, and have taken steps to correct them. The wingspan is cropped slightly, and the wings moved forward to expand the gap between t/e and tailplane l/e. I've also added a plug to stretch the forward fuselage, aft of the cockpit. The intakes are also stretched. Taken a month and a half ago. I've also reprofiled the tops of the en
  13. I've searched high and low for that kit number, but haven't had any luck. No one I've seen -- online or locally -- carries the kit. I'll take either the Alanger repop or the original Heller, it doesn't matter as long as it's the same mold.
  14. Where did you get your Heller UB, out of curiosity? I'm trying to grab a couple myself (for the MKI and LL-PS test bed). Don't tell me you had them since they were first issued.... Please?
  15. Update: I'm using the drawing on this page primarily, since it more closely matches the outline of the Su-37 in the photo at the top of this page. The vertical fin seems to be lacking in chord, but the fins in the Zvezda kit seem accurate. I'll probably use the drawing EF pointed out for panel lines and other details.
  16. From studying the two drawings I have, I'm still not sure which is more accurate. It seems the canopy may be undersized (Ken Duffey mentioned that about the Airfix piece-- it's slightly undersized. If that's the case, I might have to use the Su-47 canopy I have, which is a little larger. I only wish I could be confident of the drawings.
  17. I knew about as much when I ordered the kit. Flankerman has a decent write-up of many of the 1:72 Flanker kits available. He said the Airfix kit was the best, despite its fit problems (I bought one of these the other day), and I've been trying to use it as a blueprint, to no avail. There's no doubt that the Zvezda kit will never be made 100% accurate, but I at least want it as close to accurate as I can get it.
  18. Thanks for the link. I have that drawing, actually, but I'm not sure how accurate it is, proportionally. The paneling seems right, though. I wonder if I could use the Su-33 line drawings in some ways, at least as long as I'm not looking at the tail boom or wings. Aside from getting the wings right, I'm trying to make sure the fuselage length is accurate. I'm using the Zvezda (Nakotne) kit, which needed about .38" added to its length. I also had to lengthen the intakes somewhat.
  19. I recall finding a thread from November that had a download link for some Su-37 drawings, but it's long dead. How may I get my hands on a set of these? At the moment I'm stuck using low-res images and blowing them up, so obviously they're questionable. I'm building a 1:72 model of the plane, and I'd like to make sure it's right. Suggestions?
