Still hated the film though, on other points I already mentioned.

There's plenty of reasons to dislike the film.  The opening space battle was a huge disappointment to me.  I don't know why the latest round of movie makers can't seem to put together an interesting space battle, but one X-Wing against a fleet of Star Destroyers (and a.....Dreadnought?  I dunno, it's hard to be intimidated by something that didn't make it past the first scene) is NOT what I'd like to see.  Battle of Yavin, Battle of Endor, heck, even the Battle of Scarrif's space component were far better examples.  This was like something out of the Iliad....single man epic combat?  I didn't get it.

Like I said, lots of things to dislike, but there were some interesting creative decisions that help move the Star Wars universe forward as well.  You may not like or agree with them, but they're there.

My point was...and I stand by it...some of the criticism being levied against the film says a lot more about the writers' personal political views than it does about the films.  People are looking for outrage, and they're finding it....sometimes in some very strange places, as I described above.

  2. Wow, I think you are reading WAY too much into this, or you're reading FAR too much from dark, overly analytical corners of the internet.  There are a lot of issues with The Last Jedi, and I can't say I loved every creative choice they made, but some of the things you're ranting about are non-issues or things you're reading in of your own accord.  Or perhaps you've read them elsewhere, and are making an unnecessarily angry stand on issues you didn't fully think through.

Let's talk about the shirtless Kylo Ren scene first, shall we?  I've seen a lot of people complaining about this scene, and frankly, I don't get it.  It was a very brief moment in the movie, and it was meant to push uncomfortable physical intimacy onto Rey to make her even more uncomfortable.  Remember, neither of them can control these links, they're being pushed upon them by Snoke.  And neither of them wanted nor was ready for this particular connection:  Rey is storming around Ach-To to confront Luke and is angry and disheartened, and Kylo is in his personal quarters, probably fuming over his last encounter with Snoke and is in the middle of changing.  They both say they'd, "rather not do this right now."  Rey being uncomfortable with him being partially disrobed just increases her distaste for the moment, making it even more disquieting, and more uncomfortable for her.  In that sense, the scene works extremely well.  I'm not sure how on earth you get that interpretation from a shirtless male, but if you're THAT uncomfortable with lack of clothing, how do you even go to the beach?  Serious question there.  And I've read elsewhere, "there was no point to him being shirtless, Star War doesn't need nudity."  Yeah....good thing they've never shown a Star Wars lead character in a state of undress before:

Or worse, good thing they've never tried to use undress to objectify a Star Wars lead!

    Moving on....

Your complaints about the Rebels/Resistance looking scruffy seems odd to me.  Yes, they are constantly on the run.  The Rebels have ALWAYS looked scruffy in Star Wars movies:

It's part of how you visually depict an undermanned, under-resourced, underdog who is fighting a vastly superior military force.  So I don't get that.  You've also made two references to "fat, out of shape."  I'm curious as to who you found to be, "fat and out of shape" in the film, because that doesn't resonate with me.  I'll tell you what I do remember though!  A scruffy, overweight guy from the first film, Star Wars!  That's right, before it was even called, "A New Hope," the first Star Wars film had a scruffy, overweight guy....hell, they even called him, "Porkins," for crying out loud:

So I don't think this is some new phenomenon, even if there is a fat, out of shape character in TLJ (and I really can't remember one, so I don't think it was a lead).  And speaking of leads, your complaint about female leadership in the Rebellion/Resistance seems equally poorly placed.  This is hardly the first time they've used female leads in this universe:

There are others:  Padme Amidala, Leia, Jyn Erso....in fact, if you include the EU or many, many comic storylines, there are probably more named, human women leaders than there are male throughout Star Wars.  Seems Geekdom has long looked up to women leaders in Sci Fi.  Go figure.

Look, I think the film has some serious issues.  Personally, the slow-speed space chase throughout the entire film drove me insane.  You want to have relentless enemy pursuit across the galaxy, even following through seemingly impossible light-speed jumps, fine...there are ways to make that narrative work.  Personally, I recommend the episode, "33" from the early 2000s Battlestar Galactica, because they did it perfectly.  The way it was handled in TLJ was maddening.  Personally, I feel very few stakes for any of these new characters, because they're mostly flat, singular tropes, with very little depth.

But the accusations you're making?  Yeah, dude, I think you're really, really reaching.

  3. Yes, that "Black" scheme was never intended to be an official scheme.  The aircraft received the black before departing from depot, but the tail number was needed for RF-AK before they could complete its scheme.  It's since been repainted in the brown-green-black splinter scheme as depicted above.  295....tail number same on both pics.

  4. Failing to see the point....you're correct.  There are not many Raptors in service.  Although, comparatively, it's not that much lower than the number of combat coded F-15Cs left in service.

Not the same as a new munition that's in the early stages of being fielded.

Combatant Commander has requested capabilities that only the F-22 can provide, so F-22s are sourced to fulfill the request.  Not sure what this has to do with the proliferation of munition types carried by USN fighters.

  5. There's a hell of a lot more 120Cs in inventory than 120Ds, and they have excellent shelf-life and captive carry hours remaining.  In a theater where you don't NEED the latest and greatest advancements (because there really isn't much in the way of air-to-air threats) you don't want to burn out your 120D airframes.  Hell, I'm surprised they're not carrying Bs.

Fun to watch 👍 hard to listen to 👎

Not a fan of that screaming vocal style in the second half of the video....

Really?  Hell, at 23 years old, that song is practically an oldie.  Certainly a classic in military unit promo flicks....

I agree. Great visuals but the soundtrack was a mismatch.

People never learn.....make a video......forget the stupid music. I see this on the firearms forums too...stupid.

Guess it's good they don't make these videos for you guys.  Beats the hell out of 10 minutes of ECS cockpit whine and wind noise.

    *shrug*

Like I said, they don't make these for guys like this audience, so it hardly matters.

  7. Unsurprising.  The National Convention is dying a slow, but inevitable death, because some of the elder members of the society are beholden to a format, structure, and process that are no longer viable, particularly in the information age.  The Nats needs an update to its format, an update to the process for scheduling and coordinating the event, and if it doesn't happen soon, the event is simply going to stop happening.  No bids for 2020 is a huge warning flag.

  8. I'm still baffled as to how locking your shoulder harness makes it harder to eject.  Considering that's one of the steps in a controlled ejection scenario, prior to pulling the ejection handle.  And in an uncontrolled ejection scenario, the shoulder reels retract and lock, to help keep your body in the correct position.

You’ve provided a lot of unique products to fill some niche gaps over the years, and clearly, based on the responses above, there is interest and demand for the product you are advertising here.  I’m not a huge Tomcat fan, so I can’t really speak to my interest in a “full meal deal” set, but I do look at the price point, and the number of “fixes” and resin parts under consideration, and I have some concerns.  I mean this with all sincerity, and you’re a great guy, but frankly, I think you need to hear a bit of direct feedback regarding your proposal.

I’ve purchased a few of your products over the years, and the end result has been unfortunately disappointing.  While they are unique, and fill a need, they are often soft, lacking in detail, and they require a lot of work to bring up to the same quality/appearance as the rest of the kit.  Again, you do a great job of filling the category of products that aren’t going to be produced by anybody else, but when you start talking about a $35, major conversion set, I think you need to step up your game on product quality.

I don’t have nearly as much experience on casting as you do, but I think the most readily apparent conclusion is the fact you do not pressure cast your parts.  I don’t know if you vacuum depressurize your molds or not, but I’d suspect that is another source of the inconsistency in your casted parts. Between soft details and shapes, casting bubbles, and leakage flash, the end result is typically not what your customers expect.  And frankly, it is not keeping pace well with the other resin companies out there.  I think this is too bad, because you do provide unique products, fulfill a void for the super-detail oriented modeler, and are a genuinely nice guy.  I’d like to see your product succeed wildly, and not be openly mocked in forums for the issues noted above.

Long answer to the original question, but would I pay $35 for a major conversion with the current, typical SB casting quality?  I would not.  I might pay significantly less for a one off, smaller component that I couldn’t get elsewhere, but for that cost, I’d expect a major kit to have greater fidelity, detail, and accuracy than the products I’ve purchased from SB previously.

Again, none of this is meant to be personal.  I’d like to see your products become the leading edge for accuracy and quality in their particular market share, so I hope you take this opinion into consideration when looking at your options for this F-14B conversion.
