Just to caveat from the other flyer's inputs on this "issue"...Murph pulled one critical sentence, here's another one: In other words, if the procedures were followed correctly, it NEVER resulted in an accident. And in all of these reported accidents, the primary cause appears to be failure to follow appropriate emergency procedures. Now I'm no genius, but that sounds like a training issue to me. -Waco

  3. I can't answer the flaps/slats question with any full authority, but I can almost guarantee the wings will be full-forward by that point. Also, the exhaust nozzles will be full open, in full burner if pulling through pure vertical. -Waco

  5. He definitely meant an advantage for the F/A-18...not having to carry 4 heavy, virtually useless weapons that can't hit a commuter bus if it made a 10 degree change of heading.
  6. Not that I know of....however, these things have a nasty way of sneaking up on the line pilots, we're kind of down in the weeds. Might be Langley.

  12. Save your breath. Took less than 2.2 seconds for me to recognize THAT female fighter pilot...former classmate from the Colorado school for wayward youth. The face is the same, but the last name has changed. Married now, as I'd heard. Also believe she was among some of the E-model crew who've been in town for WSEP and DACT with Raptors over the last year. Good accomplishment for her, I'm sure. -Waco
  13. Which is why its ridiculous to cut the fingers out of the damn things. As I said, you might as well not wear them at all, because they're certainly not giving you any fire protection. The opposite end of the spectrum is the individuals who opt to wear the gloves, but then proceed to roll their sleeves halfway up the arm. I guess they'd rather just melt the skin off their forearms. Actually, the GIB on that Super Hornet appears to be meeting both categories of ridiculousness: sleeves rolled up AND fingers cut out of the gloves. How's that go again...stupid is as... -Waco
