  1. This has reached a level of stupidity that is off the charts.  Your house is not going to be a confined space, let alone accumulate enough CO2 at a concentration that is dangerous, due to a slow leak.  I could let the tank drain overnight directly into my bedroom and it will have no effect on anything, other than waking up with an empty tank and being pissed I wasted $25 of CO2.

There’s a saying about teaching a pig to sing that’s quite apt for this discussion.

I have a couple questions if you don’t mind?

About how much usage do you get out of a 10lb tank, versus a compressor?  - I filled my tank once last year, and build at a fairly steady clip (14, 1/48 models in 2022).  This is difficult to quantify as pressures, amount of spraying, types of paint and general cleaning will influence the duration that it lasts for.  10lb tanks are commonly used in home brewing systems, so you might do some searching to see how long those last for as well.

Are you required to chain it to the wall under local ordinances? I know when I worked in a shop we had to chain up our larger tanks. - I don't know that I'd really care about a local ordinance, if one even existed.  The tank itself is about knee high.  I wouldn't get the 20lb tank, as it's shoulder height and rather unsightly.

Any concerns about leaks? How would you know if had one?  - the tank itself has a shutoff valve, along with the regulator having an open/close position.  I turn it off at the tank and then bleed the line out so that I know there's nothing else coming from the tank.

  3. I bought the tank up front, cost about $130 if I remember right.  Any welding or gas supplier in your area should have them.  When it's empty, I take it back and they swap it out for a full one.  Price varies, just depending on what the current rate for CO2 is that day.  You will need a CGA-320 regulator (which can be bought off Amazon).  Depending on your hose, you may need a fitting or two to connect the hose to the tank.

  4. The MSDS for Testors enamel

paint classifies it as a Class 2 flammable hazard.  Take it up with testors if you have a problem, maybe you can get them to recategorize all the paint they make.  Just because you don’t think it’s flammable, doesn’t mean the people making the decisions share your thoughts.

I’m sure the USPS is just lining their pockets on overseas shipments of flammable liquids…

  5. They’ve had the Thunderbirds the last 2 years, they generally have something different each year.  This looks nice, but not anything terribly exciting.  With as many ANG Viper units that are nearby, I wonder why Holloman is providing the aircraft.

  6. Got my J today from the trainz eBay store, $66 with tax and shipping.  Kit looks fantastic. Just need to decide whether to do the H or the J first.

    Those Talon's look nice.

Looks like Zvedza 130's are outrageously priced, so I will have to wait to get a J model. Back to my A-model build.

Without knowing what you mean by "outrageously priced", there are a few ebay sellers that have them available for ~$60 shipped.  One is a US based seller "trainz", another is the ebay store I got my H from, based in Estonia.  If you can wait about 2 weeks, I had no issues getting the item.

I can see if I can find the sprue shots but it has both the GE and Pratt engine/intake combination in this kit.

Yes, this is correct.  I pulled my kit out and looked at the sprues to verify.  I’m curious why they only advertise it as a Block 30/40/50 when it’s also a 25/32/42/52 given the parts present.

  9. Ordered 2 from Lucky Model when it was first announced, have them in hand since end of March.  Kit looks very sharp and is a definite improvement over the initial release.  Haven’t built it up yet, but it will be at the top of the pile to see how it compares to the Tamiya Cs.

  10. I wouldn’t chuck a Tamiya Phantom in the trash over such a small detail.  Restoring it is probably not worth the risk, if you’re concerned about your scribing abilities.  You could also make a template and practice on some scrap plastic first.
