  1. Beautiful! ๐Ÿ˜ DC-8s are just gorgeous. Great job wrestling a Mach 2 kit into submission.
  2. Lovely Phantom! The weathered paintjob and the metallic areas are superb.
  3. Very nice Thunderbolt! Love the work on the camo and the subtle weathering/streaking.
  4. Have the same feeling about Academy's 1/72 F-4J. *Something* about the nose just feels off. Can't quite say what it is. It seems kinda short. Quite. 1/72 F-16s. First that weird boxing missing drop tanks and most of the pylons. Then no Block 52, even though the moulds had been made with it in mind. Worked for them in 132 and 1/48, so it seems like there's no reason not to do it in 1/72. I mean, way back when Hasegawa had the best F-16s in 1/48 town, the single-seaters heavily outnumbered the dual-seaters. And when people did build dual-seat
  5. Can't understand why Tamiya hasn't followed up their gorgeous 1/72 Block 50 with a Block 52. Seemed to have worked well enough for them in 1/48. It's like they're actively avoiding to take our money.
  6. I've used the Artool TextureFX stencils on some 1/72 MiGs, but with a slight twist. I used the stencils to apply the white "marbling" part of blackbasing, then laid down thinned grey over that. The photos make it look a bit more subtle than it actually is. I figured I'd be too impatient to marble it all by hand, so sped up the process by using the stencils. One thing I like is that by varying the stencil's height above the model's surface you can get anything from quite sharp to very soft demarcations. You can see around the engine area a
  7. YES! Absolutely! I'm kinda surprised that Trumpeter hasn't done anything in this regard, given that they're pretty prolific in terms of Chinese aircraft. Now kinda hoping for Modelsvit to continue/expand their MiG-21F/F-13 line.
  8. Precisely! "This my 1/72 ICM MiG-25RBF Foxbat. It's OOB except for the pilot figure (Zvezda) and the pitot tube (Master)." That's the shortest yet complete and unambiguous run-down of what went into the build. It is evident where the decals and exhausts came from. You have one piece of information (OOB) and you modify/qualify it with additional info (pilot, pitot) as needed. Since the additional info sorta goes against the initial info, it is introduced with a modifier (except). I mean, that... is how language works. "Here's my Angolan MiG-21MF Fishbed. It's
  9. Andrew, this article - LINK! - has a photo of the "A-7 Klingon Cloaking Device".
  10. And it's hanging from a MER under the wing. It's just the angle of the pic that makes it look like it's hanging from the wingtip's missile rail.
  11. They look great! Currently building a 1/72 Academy F-14A and I used some Fujimi Tomcat drivers. Lots of toing and froing with myself whether or not to drop the two in rubber and cast some copies, but with figures like Reedoak's available now, why bother with resin-casting Fujimi pilots?
  12. Those look great! Really interested in the Latin American subjects. Printed by Cartograf now? Even better!
  13. The IRST looks great and the burner cans are fantastic!
  14. Good progress! No Light Gull Grey from Mr. Color? That's a surprise. EDIT: You could use Mr Color 315 or 325. 315 is FS 16440, 325 is FS 26440. 16440 is a glossy paint, 26440 is a semi-gloss/satin. The only difference is the finish. The hue should be the same. 36440 is just the matt version.
  15. Give them a try on a scrap piece. Apparently they're rather decent these days.
  16. Radome is also rather shiny. Noticed that in the thread regarding black-bellied Phantoms, too. Some pretty shiny radomes there as well.
  17. I wonder if it is possible to use a Pantera/Mastercraft/et al. Fitter as a rear fuselage donor for a Modelsvit Fitter. I mean, sure, with enough elbow grease anything is possible, but maybe it's not that hard? And these kits are relatively cheap to get. Nowhere near as detailed as Modelsvit of course, but maybe a start. As for an R-29-engined Fitter kit, I wouldn't put it past Modelsvit. They did do a number of one-offs and prototypes not just in general, but also from the Fitter family, so it seems they've a thing for versions with limited appeal.
  18. ^ I don't think so. The kits all use the AL-21 engine/fuselage, while the Hungarian Fitters used the R-29.
