  1. whether it be guns, video games or pop music; it is often pointless to look for a rational explanation to irrational events. As much as we would like to think we have control of our surroundings, it is often an illusion. If one positive thing can be taken from this event; in the holiday season of rampant consumerism; it may make people think twice about what really matters, and to cherish that a little bit more.
  2. I think its a good idea to put out an ebook and a hard copy...as how shall we say... most modelling resources become PDFs eventually! best to capitalise of e-sales while its only availible online, before counterfeit copies show up :)
  3. These days its about spending big, and aiming wide to recoup on the investment For sci fi fans i ezpect its gonna be awile before we get a good flick
  4. 12/12/12...... I plan to celebrate my birthday :-P
  5. ironically it is the soviets who get the last laugh on this one: the soviets sold large numbers of the mig-23ms to client states deemed politically unreliable. The MS had a substandard engine, mig 21 era avionics, and lacked the improvements of even the 23m series. It was basically designed to be compromised; a world apart from a ML or MLD! Not suprisingly it was a pig of an aircraft, i would be more interested in reading red eagles.comparision between 23ms and the 23ml they aquired later. Another interesting point to factor in is how many 29s russia had given that the type was in service in
  6. Hey berk! Not to hijack off the cold war topic too much; anothr factor playing to tank survivability in 2nd chechan war:, as the resistance became more islamic, and expirenced former soviet army fighters were killed off, the 'quality' of anti armour attacks definatly dropped! The georgian war is probbly the best for accessing russian equipment; as both sides used essentially the same hardware! Russia won big in the tank optics department after that war; capturing dozens of georgian t-72s with israeli optics! IIRC elbit and russian company are now in a joint venture on tank optics! Back to
  7. Yea, the T-72 was definitely a product of the war in Europe philosophy; with emphasis on frontal armour protection. main contributing factors of the Chechen effectiveness, lie in the fact that many were former soviet soldiers and combat veterans familiar with weapons and the weak spots on soviet armour; a fascinating article on the subject: http://www.fas.org/man/dod-101/sys/land/row/rusav.htm
  8. the main problem with the first Chechen war was the use of armoured columns without infantry support into a dense urban area filled with insurgents with an abundance of anti armour weapons. Even tanks equipped with ERA were pretty much useless due to the multiple hits - one t-72 took 6 out of 12 hits to the engine deck alone! worst part of the T-72 IMO is the location of the ammo bins.
  9. not political, historical. If one is to examine the cold war and the powers involved in a serious capacity, the understanding of the role of proxy conflicts and political manoeuvring that occurred during the cold war and the reasoning behind it is crucial. Domino Theory and the Asia power play for example. Rather than just examine a cartoonist west Europe vs east Europe scenario, I find it far more interesting to try consider how all the allied and non-aligned states would react. eg. Would Japan stay neutral or contribute to a total forces responce? For those interested, I think this is most
  10. x2 If one looks at all the proxy activites of the cold war; I really don't think anyone came out the 'good guy' in the end!
  11. :D :D how about....... Communist Zombies that are also North Korean! sounds like this movie would have been good in the "district 9" style or a mockumentary
  12. LOL exactly! maby Disney are fans of Plinkett; and by making more movies, will get more hack reviews :D
  13. I thought (hoped) Disney learnt their lesson with the sci fi flop "John Carter" star wars really is becoming the battered call-girl of the film industry. I'd like to be more positive, Its just every new thing made seems to be more focused on the commercial interest of 'maximising revenue out of the brand' rather than telling a good story. but maby im just cynical
  14. FSA contracts Michael Bay to sweeten their vid's ;)
  15. wow! hip just evaporated after that lucky bb! here a pic of a helo going down earlier in the year:
  16. Redlettermedia delivers gold for the DVD release! http://blip.tv/redlettermedia/red-letter-media-talks-about-prometheus-on-dvd-6397461
  17. ironically, kids who went off to learn trades here are now far more financially stable than uni grads "I can find a hundred tallented uni grads, but god help me find a decent plumber whose available" :D
  18. what teachers need is their own PA to do the 20hrs of paper work that comes from 5 hours teaching :) I remember that was the no.1 reason my father and many other long-time teachers left; they joined to teach, not push paper.
  19. Be sure to get him a political commissar hat taiidan :D more the; 'take 10 deep breaths before kicking up a storm' *but yea; that idea also needs a revamp :D
  20. would it be unfair to say that the root of the problem seems to lie in the current american psyche and how its become so hyper-sensitised due to various reasons, that it results in non-issues like this getting blown massively out of proportion? I mean, the art of rolling ones eyes and clucking ones tongue seems to be becoming lost. I'd argue the parents need to go back to school, as in kindergarden; to learn how not to have a tantrum when someone does something you dont like :D
