American Civil War Sesquicentenial

Technically that was the Normans, starting in 1067 who had just (1066) come over from France and conquered what is now England, and was in response to attacks from the Welsh which had started just before the Normans arrived. Admittedly they worked on longer timescales back then so it wasn't really settled until about 1163ish, So really it was a continuation of the Norman invasion of England, rather than an English invasion of Wales... But no, it's not something that there are many open wounds over in all but in the minds of the most ardent Welsh nationalists. As a kid I did a long weekend i -
American Civil War Sesquicentenial

In short, not in the slightest. As Edgar put it in another thread, we kicked the monarchy out, had a republic, decided it was a bit poo really and brought back the monarchy. Aside from a few nuts, the most vicious it ever gets is a quiet discussion with tea and cucumber sandwiches! In fact the only thing of that nature we ever seem to get into arguments about was the English-Scottish union, which wasn't actually achieved by force but by quirk of Royal lineage (1603) and legal Act of Union (1707). Just don't mention Culloden... Jamie -
Very true. Didn't stop it been trumpeted in some quarters as a valid criticism of the F-22 though. Very good example of how DACT videos from often scripted scenarios are used out of context to prove or disprove type superiority. Often training rules or the script itself will drive an outcome as much as the fight itself. Indian Air Force vs. USAF in 2004 anyone? Jamie

And remember this one: As you said, context is everything* and no matter how good capabilities may be (esp. in the F.22), they aren't 100% bulletproof.... Jamie *For those that didn't see the original uproar and teeth knashing, see this link for a good example of the wailing that went on. Turned out that the shooter their probably broke the ROE.

Need doesn't even begin to come in to it. Have to say that none of those subjects are dear enough to me to use my very limited modelling time to slog through a crappy by todays standards old Monogram kit (like the B-17), though if there was an "uber-kit" of Tamiya 1/32 Spit quality and some decent markings they would be worth a whirl. £150+ kits aren't a problem when you build as slow as I do! +1 Always good to have the decision maker (the PM) kept in their place. Cuts them down to size with fewer personality cults.

Call me naive but I've always viewed the wedding as being for the couple, like any normal wedding, although the scale may be different. The publicity however... Anyone fancy a trip into republican* tin foil hat alley? :D As for me, there's going to be a street party near my house, am probably going to be there, as I wasn't born for Charles and Di's wedding, it's a good way to meet the neighbours and it's a lot more fun than sitting in a dark room swigging Jack Daniels and grumbling about how "the man" is beating me down.... Jamie *as in opposite of monarchist, not as in GOP.
-
So you'd "settle" for Tamiya..... :D :D Given the choice, Airfix for purely sentimental reasons, but yeah, Tamiya would be a good second choice I'd never be able to display more than one of any of those in 1/48 so I'd take the full strength Tamiya one, engines and all, rather than a (usually) more basic Hasegawa or Revell kit, price be damned. Yep. No use being in charge and not speaking the language of the lads leading the charge
