  2. Gents hi I've promised a print as a GB prize and it will be a copy of "By The Dawn's Early Light" - 3 F-4B's from VF-151 flying from the USS Midway 1972. I hope to finish the painting within the next few days and will share it with you. In the meantime a little teaser. Once done I'll be starting another painting which I'll post here as a WIP Pete
  3. Looking good How is the Italeri kit ? - it doesn't look to shabby in the photos Pete
  4. Dave - have a look at the Aeromarine 39 and see whether you think its the same. It certainly looks USN edit I think Mason is calling it correct P
  5. Daniel hi The best I can offer is the following taken from a 3d model of the Abraham Lincoln The model is at 1:1 scale and I've used the ruler to measure each length. I don't however know how accurate the plans were that this is based on , although the numbers are very similar to your own. Hope it is of some help Pete
  6. Gents hi This is too good to miss, so count me in with a painting, and I'll donate a Naval Aviation print as an additional prize. P
  7. I've mixed Humbrol Acrylic with Future without problem. So much so that after a couple of years the surplus mix I kept in a bottle was still fine without any sign of seperating. It didn't occur to me that mixing stuff with future might be a problem - guess I was lucky first try ! P
  8. Calling this one done ! ‎"By the Dawn's Early Light" complete and signed colour study 18" x12 " Available for purchase On to the full size version.

  10. Tom hi How much are you after for the kit, inc P&P ? thanks Pete
  11. These are looking great, where do you get your plans from, (I'm especially interested in the Midway) thanks Pete
  12. Paul hi Sorry no Crusader. all 1/48 Monogram F-5E Italeri EuroFighter Dragon F-190A-5 Airfix FR46/47 Seafire Hasagawa Bf-109E3 Swiss Airforce Hasagawa P-51D Big Beautiful Doll Let me know if anything catches your eye thanks Pete
  13. Gents hi Title says it all. I can pay via paypal or have a few kits to swap. Just to make life difficult I'm in the UK thanks Pete
  14. Three hours work and the sky is pretty much done. I'll let this dry before adding the last details, and then tackling the Phantoms. I deliberately didn't use the previous colour study as a guide as I wanted to try slightly darker colours for the sky in this version. Given I knew I would have to blend the sky with the fan brush I masked the two smaller F-4's so I could blend without worrying about losing the drawings. Pete
  15. A bit of a dodgy photo, but I've transfered the drawing for the half sized study onto a piece of unmounted fine canvas. I'll seal this with a wash of acrylic burnt sienna and then I can break out the oils again. I've got the full size line drawing stuck to the wall at the moment and it looks pretty cool. #213 measures... 24.5" tip to tail ! Danny Coreman's excellent "Uncovering the US Navy Phantom" turned up in the post this week, so I'm busy checking the details as the larger studies demand more attention to detail. Pete
  16. Cheers all I'm really pleased to say that "Devil Dog " has been accepted for the 2010 American Society of Aviation Artists (ASAA ) juried art show. The painting will therefore be on display at the San Diego Air & Space Museum from June 7 until Sept 10. If you're in the SD area this summer be sure to pop along and have a look at all the art. Pete
  17. the FHC http://www.flyingheritage.com/TemplateHome.aspx?contentId=1 Superb aircraft P
  18. Cheers guys Stephen - good call on the tank, I've altered the line drawings accordingly. Bill - Yes working this small is a challenge, but it forces me to work loosely and not worry too much about the detail. The background is based on a photo I took out of an airliner window , and yes I've just added it digitally to the pencil sketch. I intend to do a half size colour study (18" x 12") before doing the full size painting at 36" x 24". I need to work the detailed line drawing next. Pete
  19. Guys hi I'm working on another F-4 painting with the composition pretty much firmed up and a quick value study completed. . 2b on vellum 12" x 8" No title as yet. The background image added to give some context The full size line drawing needs to be completed next A quick , small and nearly complete study. As you can see I've moved No1 back a little. The benefit of this study has paid off already as it shows most of the colours are NOT what I want - sky too dark, whites too blue, but I'll finish it regardless. I've always intended to to a half size study at 18" x 12, so this one
  20. The Osprey book "USN A-1 Skyraider Units of the Vietnam War" has two profiles of VA-196 Spads, but no photos. A quick flick through the Schiffer book "The A-1 Skyraider in Vietnam" finds a couple of photos, and one (like one of the profiles) shows an aircraft carrying a pair of red painted 1000lb fire bombs (naplam) . You're correct that they were on the USS Bonhomme Richard. HTH Pete
  21. Found these 3 images The camo matches the diagram for 865 that Jack posted, although the colour in last seems to come from a different timeframe. HTH P
  22. Fred hi There's a good photo of the left side in "Aggressor Aircraft" - Chuck Stewart, I can scan it for you if don't know it. I'll dig out some of my backup discs and see what if I've got anything else HTH P
  23. Cheers guys Some details shots and a dying MiG 21 I got hold of a recording of the cockpit transmissions of the engagement (the whole thing is 20 minutes long) and every time I listen to it the hairs on the back of my neck stand up. Pete
