A pleasure to buy a kit from a local bay-area ARC member. I enjoy seeing your builds are the local model shows, and look forward to more! Thank you! JH

Yes. Jaguars are the best in 1/48 Etendards have nice recess panel lines Mirage IV only kit in 1/48, accuarate. Viggen, Esci re-issue FA2 vey simple buy workable No Tornado, get Italeri G.91, get itaeri
-
I second that nomination! Very smooth trade! Thanks!

The Italeri/Esci version is probably the best out-of-the-box solution. The Fujimi kit has shape issues and is 1/50 scale.

Squadron has the GP Fury w/ Bullpups on sale this month for $19.99 IMHO, if you really want to build the HB kit, then it might make an excellent source for resin detail bits? :-)
-
I used the Sherline one for alot of small projects, very good! The Unimat ones are not very good and overpriced.

It would have been cool if Revell released the kit as : "Rafale C/B Armee de l'Air (updated)" as originally listed, maybe they will bing out a "C" model later? IMHO, Revell will eventually re-issue the single seater, no need to buy a CopyBoss rip-off kit. Build the B model while waiting.

The only two options, that I know of at this time are from Xtradecal: http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=X00132 http://www.hannants.co.uk/search/?FULL=X00632 SuperScale used to make Saudi markings too...

What would be the best kits for following subjects in 1/48...
j-fever replied to The_Animal's topic in Jet Modeling
Gripen- Italeri is the only one in 1/48. the CMK/Best Choice release was the Italeri kit with all the extra resin bits. If you can get the Best Choice kit, it could be the best value, if you care about after-market details. Typhoon - The recent Revel Germany release is superb. Careful, there is an older Revell kit that is not very good. Rafale- Revell Germany (ROG) is the only original release, and is one of the best kits ever from Revell. It will be re-issued again this year. The Copyboss kit is a lesser quality bootleg of the Revell kit minus the clear nav lights and weapon seeker heads. G -
I found a flush-cut sprue cutter at Fry's electronics for $4.99. Is is called "Xcelite" 170m Shearcutter made by Cooper Tools in the USA. This one looks exactly like the Xuron cutter. It has a black metal tip, narrow nose, with sprung orange plastic handles. Fry's actually had three different styles of cutters for $4.99 plus several others at higher prices. Here is on on-line link: http://shop2.outpost.com/product/1916908;j...CH:MAIN_RSLT_PG

The second image was definitely taken in-flight. ;) Whew, that was at tough one!

Basically, yes. The flaps hinge at the joint, nothing extends out. The Mirage 2000 flaps also work that way. As posted below, they are not "flaps"... :-)

In-progress: 1/48 Academy Mig-29A

very nice! -
The decal sheet you need to look for is by Carpena: #4804 "FRENCH AIR FORCE INSIGNIAS 1970/1978" I am not sure who has it in-stock, I found my set at a swap meet 2 years ago.

I might be able to help, shoot me a PM.

It is fairly simple. One way to make the plug #1 laminate several sheets of styene to a width, slightly thicker than the plug length, using styrene cement and clamps. A good/cheap source of styrene is the sheet plastic often used for various in-store sign displays or the plastic sheet signs on the side of buses. #2 Cut the fuselage apart behind the cockpit at the proper location. #3 Use the back half of the fuselage as a template to draw the outer (not inner) cross section onto one side of the plug #4 With the plug on a flat table, drill holes straight down (90 deg) through to the other s
-
Maybe, but I think for all the effort (and cost!) it would be just as easy (if not easier?) to make a laminate block out of styrene and shape it to fit. You can get it symmetrical by working on both halfs at the same time.
-
Very true, I started down that road with a Mig-15. To me, the result was too subtle, and just was not worth it. Never again.

I saw that one, free for the first 125 words, then $10 a month! How is the undercarriage better? Cheers
-
Nope, structure inside was modifed, with added cooling vents. Also the Cheetah uses the engine from the F.1 and it is visually the same as the III atar.
-
I agree with that. IMHO, I prefer the Eduard kit for those reasons. I don't mind a few dimensional issues. I have compared all the 1/48 mirage fuselages (Heller, Eduard, Esci) basically they are all very close. But the Eduard kit needs a new engine and a plug inserted after the cockpit. What will take less time, scribing panel lines or lengthening the body? The Cheetah "C" mod provides the whole front end, I only visually overlaid the parts and it seems, with a bit of work it should be ok?
-
Great link! An interesting conversion using the Eduard/Copyboss kit as a base...kool! The Eduard Kit seems slightly slimmer, however the way the Eduard body is lined up to the drawing makes it seem off. The new "C's are said to have a nose profile that is too narrow or shallow? The Heller kit is still considered the most accurate. Sadly, no on-line Hebrew-English translators..

Should Fox One Decals start making decals again?
j-fever replied to Fox One Decals's topic in Jet Modeling
Yes! Or, at the very least re-print your 1/48 B-58 decal set. With several new resin detail set being made for the B-58, your decal set would probably fly out the door. -
Glad to hear that your experience is acceptable to you. However Alan sells most of the kits at "collectable" prices. If a buyer is going to pay those inflated prices, then the least Alan could do is secure all the parts properly and provide adequate protection in shipping. A non-sealed kit placed loosely into a "free" USPS container is just not acceptable, especially if the kit is older and has many loose parts. Also the shipping charges where double the actual cost of shipping. Still a rip-off.
