  1. Hey guys, I've got to be in Houston this weekend for my nephew's wedding. I was wondering if there were any shops worth visiting? I'm familiar with the little shop in Rice Village (if it's still there) and I understand Hobby Island (been there once before) is now gone. Anything else in the area? Mark

    VF-41

TR is correct for the cruise where 41 flew missions over Kosovo. I have a friend who was a pilot with the Black Aces at the time. I went on a "Dependents Day" cruise with him out of Norfolk on the TR just after he got back. I remember seeing some video footage he had when he dropped bombs on an ammo dump. Would love to see some VF-41 decals from that time frame.
  3. Pig, All I have to say is eye watering, simply eye watering! It is so awesome that if this model is going to be on diplay in Schenechtedy in April, I just may to road trip down there to see it first hand. Great job. Mark
  4. I was hoping they would include PIDS pylons with this release, but it doesn't look like they included them. There were so many chaff/flare bucket inserts with the CJ kit I had a feeling that PIDS were in a future release. For those who haven't seen them pictures are up on Tamiya America's web site. http://www.tamiyausa.com/product/item.php?product-id=61101
  5. Jake, Thanks, although it hard to see in the photo, I sort achieved the effect of the flat sides to the antennas when I taper them with a sanding stick. Didn't do that intentionally, but it just worked out that way. Yeah kind of funny about Black Box. Mark
  6. 3rd model complete? Ever? Or this year? What ever the answer... SWEET LOOKING MiG!!!!! Nice job. Mark
  7. I believe Royale Resin does drop tanks and wheels for the Revell Super Hornet.
  8. Thanks Jake, That is the old Black Box set, their orginal issue. I have your book and from stuying the pictures it looks like the antennes are flat on the sides, am I correct? I have tried to shape them that way using a sanding stick, but it is not real noticable.
  9. Thanks everyone for the positive compliments. Despite the fact that I had all of last week off I have made very little progress on this kit. My kids had school vacation all week so that may have had something to do with the fact that I had very little time to work on this. After looking at my refernces I was not happy with the beer can antennas I had made From my references the antennas went the full chord on the underside of the LE flaps so I reworked those. I'm happier with the results, although they are not perfect. I spent way more time on them than I had planned. I was going to
  10. Wow! I have Viper envy. Very nice job on that model. The PIDS pylons look great. I was looking for some for my GB Viper. Shawn Hull was the logical choice. Didn't know he ever made a set. Looks like they are OOP now. :)
  11. Okay, the batteries for my camera are recharged so here's a quick update of what I worked on today. Had to scratch build the beer can antennas. I used Jason's aka messy60 technique of cutting a slot into the wing to insert a short piece of plastic rod. I turned the rod in my battery powered Dremel tool to round off the tips. I then used half round pieces to make the aft portion of the antenna where it tapers back. I need to do a little sanding and filling to clean them up a little. I'm afraid I went a little too short on them. With the half round strips added. Also did a little
  12. Thanks, it's good to be back at it. Thanks to everyone for the compliments. Mark
  13. Good idea. It can't hurt to send them a few emails. You never know they just might listen. The kits disappeared from the shelves so quickly the last time they were re-released, I suspect there would be motivation for Revellogram to release them again. Mark
  14. Here's the cockpit tub painted up. I was going to take more but the batteries in my camera died and the spare was dead too, so I'll have to wait until its charged up to get more. I have the fuselage joined up. also using the Aires wheel wells and have that installed too.
  15. Man it has been a while since I updated this one. I had to go all the way back to page 9 to find it. I had hoped to have more work done on this by now and it is getting down to the wire. November and December are always months where I can't get a lot of model building done because of the holidays. I also have been very busy fixing things around my house to get it ready to put it on the market for sale, so my time at the workbench has been sparse. I've only got back to this kit just recently. Anyways here's what I've got done. First, after I got the seat primed I noticed that the manual
  16. No moving sale Well next time I'm in the area I'll have to check them out.
  17. Well I hope Aires gets around to accepting your offer and takes your refernces, until then I'll just have to keep watching eBay. I hope Aires get around to producing a "D" cockpit before I find one at a good price on eBay BTW I'm holding out for your "Buefort Marines Over Bosnia" and "Death from the Darkness" decals for my two "D" model Hornets. I hope those sheets are released soon. Mark
  18. Thanks for the replies guys. I should have been more specific. My bad. I've got a 1/48 Hasegawa F-18D plus a Black Box cockpit. I recently picked up a second two seat Hornet kit and now I'm looking for an aftermarket cockpit for it. I thought I saw one from Aires, but I can't find one listed anywhere. Maybe what I recall seeing was a cockpit for the two seat Super Hornet. Anyway does anybody know if there is another company besides Black Box that might have a two seat "Legacy" Hornet cockpit in production? My second choice would be to use the kit cockpit tub, throw in a couple of resin
  19. Besides Black Box, does anyone make an aftermarket resin cockpit for the F/A-18D in 1/48th scale? Thanks, Mark
  20. Not to hijack this thread but I didn't know there was a Hobbytown in NH. Is the shop any good? Do you know where they are moving to?
