    F-16 paint

Guys, Someone listed the FS numbers of the grays for the F-16 using Vallejo Air paint, but now I can't find it. Can someone point me in the right direction? TIA... Jim
  2. Those are pretty cool...Count me in for one of the Hornet shirts. Thanks for looking into this. Jim
  3. John,Check this out: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....howtopic=118813 Go to Page 2 and scroll down for pics...Post #27 has a good pic of the issue. Jim
  4. Guys, FYI- I just called Tamiya Customer Service (800) 826-4922 (US only) and spoke with a Customer Service rep there about the seam/crack/line in the 1/48 F-16CJ canopy. He said that they opened three (3) kits there but didn't see anything, AND YET... He also told me that he only had one other call related to the canopy, but said that his boss had ordered a bunch of canopies from Tamiya that would be there (Tamiya America) in "two to three months". If you live in the US and it's an issue for you, call Tamiya Customer Service and let them know. They don't seem to think it's a widespr
  5. Scott,I have to agree with you here. Notice the bold text from Tamiya. I think that clears it up While I haven't got to my canopy yet (I just got my new airbrush, so I'm trying to figure outhow to avoid spatter...I'm getting build-up on the tip of my new Inifinity). Jim
  6. Scott,While I haven't used these personally, if you're locked in to acrylic natural metal finishes, try these from Hawkeyes Hobbies. I wouldn't use either Tamiya OR Gunze Sangyo NMF paints. http://www.hawkeyeshobbies.com/ Scroll down to see the line of paint that they offer. I am using Alclad II for my own NMF, which is lacquer-based. HTH Jim
  7. Guys, How do I change the needle/nozzle on this airbrush, without fearing that I didn't get the needle far enough into the nozzle? I obviously don't want to leave any space between the nozzle and the needle, so how do you guys do it? I start with the needle, by putting it in from the front, but not all the way. Next, I put the nozzle over the needle and push it back until it stops against the knurled nut. Then I screw on the air cap and needle cap and tighten the needle nut. Do you guys do it any differently? I haven't had a chance to use it just yet, but I should have some time to
  8. Harder & Steenbeck Infinity Two in One owners, I ordered the .2mm needle and nozzle separately but didn't get the two-pronged tip with it...is it supposed to come with that particular tip, or does one size fit ALL the nozzles? Did I not order correctly? Am I supposed to order the needle/nozzle SET to get the two-pronged tip that goes with it? Thanks for the help... <_< Jim
  9. Majortomski,Decanting is when you spray paint from a spray can into another container, and, after outgassing (bubbles go away), can be used in an airbrush. Jim
  10. Guys, I decanted some Tamiya Fine White Primer into some film canisters, and one of them goes back about 2, almost 3, months. Is it still usable, or should I start over? What's the longest time you have waited before using decanted paint? Thanks for any advice... Jim
  11. Pete, I finally have the time to drop you a note. I guess you'll have to add me to your fan club. Absolutely stunning job on the Block 42. Okay, I have to admit...I picked up a couple of Tamiya's 1/48th F-16CJs. I LOVE F-16's...what can I say? I also bought a Harder & Steenbeck Infinity Two in One airbrush, but I need an air hose and a nozzle set (sent the needle, but no nozzle yet...out of stock). Keep up the GREAT work, and I look forward to seeing the other two builds come to life. Jim
  12. DP,I'll take two...for now! (Great job on the nozzle, btw...) Jim
  13. Karl,I've had a Paasche VL for quite a while, but recently picked up a H&S Infinity Two in One as well, which I'm sure will be my primary airbrush. I ordered mine from Airheads, along with a .2mm needle/nozzle set and an air hose, but all I received was the needle. Don DID notify me via email that he was out of the needle/nozzle sets and that he'd send that as he got them in, so that's cool, but I didn't get any kind of notification that he was out of the air hose as well. It's kind of frustrating when you pay that kind of money and can't get everything in one place, and there's no i
  14. Okay, I just took a look at the DACO book... On Page 8 I can't see ANYthing, but on page 60, looking at the Block 40, it looks like it butts right up to the canopy seal, (okay, it might go under that area) but it does drop an inch or two (in 1:1 scale) so I would think it would be negligible in 1/48. Maybe Block 50's are different....I don't know one way or the other. I probably don't know what I'm talking about, since I'm not climbing around F-16's all the time...jmho. Jim ;)
  15. Thanks for that, Chris...I just pre-ordered two. I missed the Tamiya 1/48 F-16 Early Bird but not this time. I've been wanting a Y-Wing for quite a while. I still have the X-Wing and the Jedi Starfighter to do someday. Jim
  16. tkifer, Personally, I would probably use a light blue/gray or gray/blue wash, which is what I'm going to do with mine. That would eliminate having to re-spray a light white coat mist over the entire surface of the model. Put some white on an old kit and practice, practice, practice using the different grays. (I was actually thinking about using a very light blue/gray, with more blue than gray for my panel line wash.) Just my .02 cents. Jim
  17. Well, that's just great...thanks, you guys, you've really done it now. Because of your incessant ramblings about the Harder and Steenbeck Infinity Two in One airbrush, and the review by Cop, and the other comments made on this board concerning said airbrush, I had to pony up some serious cash (that I don't really have) to buy this fine precision tool. I also had to get the airhose and the .2mm needle/nozzle set. So...thanks...thanks a lot!! :( (A very special thank you to my very lovely and understanding wife, who tolerates my hobby, and is very supportive.) Jim
  18. Jake, Do you have a better pic of the marking above the gun port on the Shaw jet that you posted? THAT's a nice-looking jet!! Jim
  19. Glad I could help... Best of luck on your build! Jim
  20. My bad... Totally forgot about the stab dischargers... *EDIT* Just took another look at the stabs...looks good to me compared to some -CJ pics I looked at on airliners.net. :) Jim
  21. Jeff, Take another look at the nose. The dischargers are there, although they are very light. Terrific engineering, imho. They look scale to me, but then what do I know? Jim
  22. Scott, The P/Q Sprues, Part #9116024 has the intake and a couple of parts for the nozzle (all the Q has on it are wheel chocks, the smoke oil pipe and the boarding ladder), but the sprues are connected. The R Sprue, Part #0006452 has the remainder of the nozzle pieces, as near as I can see, but make sure you order two (2) or you won't have the correct number of petals. HTH Jim
  23. Well, since they have that snazzy 1/32 Zero, and their 1/48 8th Air Force P-51D was discontinued, I would hope for a 1/32 P-51D (or, as stated earlier, a fancy 1/48 F-16). Just my $.02 Jim
  24. Sheesh, Ron, While I appreciate your terrific-looking Phantom in 1/32 scale, I was really lookin' forward to your 1/3 scale Phantom that took up your entire back yard. (Look at the title) Very, very nice Phantom, though, even if it IS a bit smaller than I anticipated. :o Jim
