  1. JayBee, I believe that what is being asked about (according to the thread title) is a 1/32 CMK F-16CJ Cockpit set, NOT the wheel bay set. That's the way I read it, anyhow... Jim
  2. Jake, Do you have any pics of the Aires set? I went to their site, but they don't list any jets that have a cockpit set. As a matter of fact, all I saw listed was an F4U...only American aircraft listed in 1/32. I tried looking under 'cocpit sets' (their spelling) and 'detail sets'. Nothing related to a 1/32 F-16CJ. Also checked Hannants and HLJ. Hannants has a pic for the Aires pit for the Academy kit, but nothing for the Tamiya. Got any pics or links for the Tamiya pit (if there is one)? Thanks.... Jim
  3. RG, I don't know...maybe I'll go ahead and build the kit 'pit along with the BB 'pit just to see which one I prefer. I know the kit 'pit is pretty good, and, like you said, I might just stick with it, but I'll have to see how it looks after it's done, but, to me, the BB 'pits just look, well, "busier", if you know what I mean. Anyhow, I'm off to paint something. Jim
  4. Guys, Before I hack up my beauteous 1/32 Tamiya T'Bird, does anyone have any tips on how to get nice sharp corners? I have a difficult time with that, even using files, sanding sticks, sandpaper, etc. I have a VMD Studios Block 30/32 'pit I want to use, but if it turns out bad I certainly don't want to have to buy a new kit (or even send to HLJ for a new sprue). Also, does anyone have large pics of the cut-out on the original kit part before installing the new 'pit and sidewalls? I guess I'm just getting lazy. TIA... Jim
  5. Brian, I did a search on their site since I couldn't find them... they all showed up as "Out of Stock" *edit* I just checked under the 50% off sale...I still couldn't find 'em I really don't think that there are any left. If you can find them, can you provide a link, please? Thank you... Jim
  6. Too late... ALL the iterations of the F-2 (F-2A, XF-2A) are completely out of stock at this time, in both 1/72 AND 1/48. Oh, well...maybe next time!

    Tamiya 1/48 P-51D

Guys, I'm thinking of building a 1/48 P-51D, and I've been reading a lot about different cockpits for the plane, BUT... I haven't seen many pictures. A lot of folks seem to like the True Details set, but I haven't seen any pictures of it. If anyone has pics they could post, I'd appreciate it. Thanks in advance... Jim
  8. Hoky smokes, Bullwinkle... That looks like a navalized version that never saw below decks on a six-month cruise...reduced RCS notwithstanding, the jet looks just plain trashed!! How much weight does this "paint" add? Probably classified, isn't it? I'll stick to smooth paint, thank you very much. Can you imagine something like this going through an airbrush? Clogged tips, ahoy (to stay with the nautical theme). See ya... Jim
  9. Pete, Can you elaborate on what's "wrong" with the Has kits? I have a 1/48 Has F-16CJ, Block 50 that I recently started. I have a Black Box cockpit, Aires wheel wells and a CE (I think) seamless intake. My problem, though, is mating the Aires nose gear well with the seamless intake. Maybe I should just build it OOB and call it good! (I have two (2) of the Tamiya 1/48 Vipers on pre-order.) Best regards, Jim
  10. Mike,Can you elaborate with a step-by-step on your next build? For instance, the quote below is confusing... I am always on the lookout for a technique that works consistently.Beautiful cockpit, by the way. Best regards, Jim

    HELP! Can't find...

    *EDIT* Found the Spit... Jim
  12. Anyone gonna do VFA-32 CAG 1/48 F-18F decals? (Fuji, do you know anything? Does ANYone know anything?) I want to get started on my -F. TIA... Jim
  13. Jake, I know what CCIP is, but what's CUPID, and what does it entail if you can say. Thanks, Jim

    1/48 Has F-18C

Dave, Thanks so much for the quick response. Man, that's quite a bit of resin. Looking forward to this update set, and thanks for the info. Hope you get your noses back soon so you can finish. I have a Super Hornet (-F) I can get started on in the meantime. Best regards, Jim
  15. Guys, I've been reading that there is going to be an "update: for this jet (I think it was mentioned by Dave Roof, but can't be sure). Is Orion models doing this, or someone else? Can someone enlighten me as to what will be in this "update" set for this particular kit? I believe that "accurate" was mentioned in the post. Since I have one of these kits floating around, I was just curious as to what was actually going to be done. TIA... Jim

    Uh oh...

Hey, guys, This is embarrassing, but I'll just put it out there. I started my F-16 Block 52 yesterday, beginning with the fuel tanks, and already managed to mess them up. I got lazy and... I clipped the fins so they'd look more like the actual fins on the real tanks, but I over did it. I took about 1/32" off both sides on both tanks. If I can (eventually) get a decent pic of the tanks, I'll post it to my PB account, but what would YOU do? Blow it off, and use 'em anyway? Send to Hannants for another sprue? Wait for the two Tamiya kits I have on order with Hannants to arrive? Any adv
  17. Crud... I had my afterburner cans mixed up...bwahahahahahahahahaha!!! Jim
  18. Habu2, Was I mistaken in my knowledge of Viper information? Have I been mislead? I was under the impression that Block 52 jets had GE engines, not P&W. While I agree with your assessment regarding the feathers on the P&W engine, I stand by what I know about Block 52's (i.e., General Electric). (Unless you know something I don't; I defer to your knowledge of all things Viper.) Regards, Jim
  19. Hey, guys, I'm a little curious- How much of the "fin" do I need to take off the fuel tanks to make them appear more accurate? TIA... Jim
  20. Hi, guys, As the title indicates, I am going to be building this pod, and was wondering if any of you have built and lit this model. I am striving for accuracy here, so I'll be replacing the stock interior (which is very well done, by the way) with a custom one based on new information that was revealed later (thanks, Paul Bodensiek). I was going to use lightsheet, but apparently it doesn't hold up as well as standard LED's (I think I read that it loses 50% of it's brightness after 400 hours, or something to that effect). and I think that the company went out of business anyway, so I gu
  21. Terry, Block 32, 42, 52 Vipers all have Pratt & Whitney engines and the small mouth intake, so you'd be hard-pressed to build one out of a CJ kit, which has the big mouth intakes and the General Electric engines, as do ALL Block 30, 40 and 50 Vipers. BEST bet would be to start with the Thunderbird kit (Block 32) that already has those parts (afterburner can, small mouth intake). I'm pretty sure that there are other things associated with a Block 52 conversion (bulged gear doors and beefier landing gear; landing light moved to front lg door, stuff like that... there are others her
  22. jcunny, I picked up a P&W can from Sprue Bros. Got one all prepped waiting for a primer coat. I'm building a Block 52 jet from the SCANG. So, P&W burner, NSI intake: luckily both are included in the kit (as DO NOT USE items), but in the kit. (Hasegawa kit #V10/2200- F-16CJ Block 50 Fighting Falcon.) Anyway, Aires P&W burner IS still available; you just need to look around a bit. Regards, Jim
  23. Dave, I think merlin101 just typed it wrong. I think he's referring to the white squares inside the burners on Super Hornets that are really visible when the jet is parked, as referenced with this VFA-211 CAG jet. www.scalemodelworld.net/ygrb6r Jim
  24. Jake, Sorry about that! I neglected to specify which block. You answered for both, but the one I was after was the Block 50. I would have referenced your list above for the Block 32. I wasn't even aware of the camo changes on the jets, so a big THANK YOU for that (how did I miss THAT?). Thanks again. Jim
  25. Jake, Could I impose on you to elaborate on the changes Tamiya missed? I was somewhat aware of the vents, and am aware of the missing three (3) IP engine decals missing on the right lower front panel and the access panel on the upper fuselage near the tail, but beyond these very trivial issues, I haven't heard anything. (I'm not even going to ever try to fix the access panel...way too much trouble. Maybe the 1/48 jet will address these 'minor issues'.) Thanks for any thoughts... Jim
