  1. I am grateful for Squadron, and hugely appreciate their sales and promotions. Honestly, this is what has allowed me to really stay in the hobby. Most of the prices for today's modern kits are brutally prohibitive. Squadron allows me to "bird dog" prices and capitalize on kits that I otherwise couldn't afford. My stash is what it is, due to Squadron. I am also honest when I say I shop around too, and keep what other websites have to offer in mind. Squadron- thanks for what you've done to keep me in this hobby, and for the kits I can afford! Please keep it up! Kind Regards, Eric
  2. Thanks guys! Well, after the realization that there just wasn't any "wishing" it away- I started to clean up the mess. I've managed to salvage a select few of the models, and I've pieced a handful of them back together. I would have much rather given them away than to have lost them like this. Oh well- back to raid the stash we go!
  3. Wow.......Just woke up to and started fixing my coffee this morning. I heard a "bump in the night", last night, but didn't realize what it was. I walk into my display room with coffee in hand, only to discover that the absolute top piece of glass in my display case had collapsed, crushing 22 of my completed builds. I'm a slow builder, and it took me 8 years to build that many. Ugh! Why does it always have to be the top piece that gives way- another modeller had the same thing happen a few months ago!
  4. I would love to see a new sticky for hobbyroom ideas, shelves, workbenches, man caves, and display cabinets. There seems to be a trend of such posts on a fairly regular basis. I think that every modeller here would benefit from this:-)
  5. Just curious where those that use the Tamiya Acrylics purchase them. My usual vendor is out of the colors I need, and they don't seem to be restocking them (Sprue Brothers). Just looking for some 23ml bottles of flat white, neutral gray, and some XF-81. I wonder why they're so difficult to find here in the states, in stock, at least. Thanks for the pointer in the right direction. Even Google isn't yielding what I'm looking for : (
  6. I absolutely LOVE Mustangs......of all kind! So, instead of working on either of these................ or I will instead, be happily working on these! We shall see how long I can stay focused on these FIVE Accurate Miniatures P-51 C's. I've been steadily working on cleaning the parts up from their sprues, and organizing my plan of attack. The interiors will be mostly the same, but the exterior markings will vary from NMF to the olive drab over neutral green. Let the games begin! : )
  7. Hello Folks! Well, I've embarked upon a mission to build a batch of 5 AM P-51C model Mustangs, and I'm a little perplexed with a technique issue. In the kit, the instrument panel is molded in clear plastic. There are kit provided decals for the instruments, but that would appear to make the clear panel a moot point. Just curious what your ideas are for ways to detail the panel. Should I cover the guage faces in silicon, and airbrush it back, with the decal on the back of the panel on a piece of styrene???? I'm lacking liquid mask :( Thanks for the input! Oh, and while I'm asking- how do you
  8. As a Captain for a smaller regional airline, I can say for a fact that yes, they do mess with some airplanes. The smaller regional jets we operate have magnetic flux instruments in the wingtips that read the earth's magnetic field, and the data is sent to an AIRINC AHARS (Attitude, Heading, and Reference System". The information is used for navigation purposes and is then displayed on our Primary Flight Display and gives us our magnetic heading. I think the problem is that SOME devises, which send and transmit data, will taint the magnetic readings of the magnetic flux instruments. We get an "
  9. I stayed at a Holiday Inn Express once : )........in Pensacola. So are you telling me I'M not qualified to fly a Hornet I saw whiz by???? : )
  10. Martin- congratulations on the new venture! I'm very pleased to see that you have picked yourself up, dusted yourself off, and allowed your fortitude and persistence to overcome adversity. There is no doubt that you and WINGXL will be a much appreciated asset, resource, and craftsman by many modelers, including myself. I will certainly be doing everything I can do to help support your company's "rebirth" and I wish you the best of luck on your new endeavors. I will most certainly be awaiting further news on your kit releases. I will also be keeping an eye out for the releases from that "othe
  11. My living situation is changing rapidly, and I've suddenly found myself unable to build models with the airbrush, sanding, painting, etc. So, my creative side is looking for a new outlet, and I've ordered some figures in 1:6th scale, from Dragon. I was just curious if anyone here was also into this, and if so, if there was any inside scoop as far as weathering, etc. I figure at the least, they would look good in a display case next to some of the built aircraft I've done over the years : ) This just seems to be a clean outlet for my creative side- just spread everything out on the kitchen tabl
  12. So, do you think the Chinese will lend us more money to build more F-22's???? That thing looks like an F-35 rear ended a Raphale and popped out a J-20 : ) At least it will make for easy scratch building, for anyone interested!
  13. Sorry guys, but I have to vent for a quick second. I was just curious if there was any other way to make the undercarriage any more troublesome than they already are? Not only is the plastic very flimsy and soft, but none of the parts line up to produce anything that would apear strong enough to support a model for any length of time. Holly cow, is that stuff a mess! Alright, and now for some possitive questions : ) Has anybody used or purchased the white metal undercarriage set for the AMT/Itilary A-20 series? I saw Scale Aircraft Coversions produced some, and was wondering how they look. To
  14. Well, I was in Savannah, Georgia, this past week and stumbled on one of the most fortuitous things I've managed in quite some time. While I was there for work, I decided to do a "ghost" tour of downtown, and was trying to find the cemetary where the tour was to begin. Somehow, I stumbled up on an old 1920's movie theater and there was quite a bit of commotion, so I took a second to look. What I found was the world premier of a World War II documentary on the air war in Europe! What a neat experience- lots of great footage, narration, and a great program. Topped off with being able to see it in
  15. Chuk- thanks for the link to your Helldiver build! Just out of curiosity, have you ever thought about trying to publish several builds in a book, with your tips of the trade. Not sure about others, but I'd certainly be willing to purchase one. In my opinion, it's far easier to reference a book while I build rather than a computer. Besides, those characters are too good to just let waste away- put them to work: ) ! I certainly appreciate the help and the insight. I'll have to throw pics up of the finished model. I'm still learning, and it's just fun to be back into the hobby!
