  1. Yes, I've done that. Actually ran into two of the "Front Range Auto Modellers" last night when I stopped by and put the word out to them to mention it at the next FRAM meeting. Don't know if it will get anywhere.
  2. Hello all, I'm from the other side of the fence (armor and aircraft) and realize that to you, I am the Devil but I'm reaching out to the car modeller culture for a little bit of assistance. Scratch building details on models (of all types...) is much easier using plastic bits with a high contrast in color. Nowadays, almost all armor and a/c kits are molded in a rather uniform shade of....grey. What I am hoping for is that some of you car guys could "donate" your not grey or white sprue trees to me when you are finished with your kits. It would be much appreciated, and make my efforts at
  3. 'tis true. Tamiya XF-69 Nato Black
  4. My mistake! I was tired when I posted, for some reason my brain saw "Italeri" where my eyes should've seen Revell. In that case, I agree with Lancer.
  5. Actually..... it's the old Esci mold, and has recessed panel lines. It's an ok kit, especially at the price compared to the over-kill that is Hasegawa. Here's the IPMS review of it: Italeri EF-111A
  6. That build on ARC was also listed up on finescale modeler's forum, and the builder corrected himself saying it was the 48th kit. UPDATE: just got definite word back from the seller; it is in fact the "Italerei" 1/72 kit, reboxed by Heller. Dang, that's gotta be an old boxing. So in a sense, Heller did do an RF-84
  7. I'm getting ready to buy a small selection of old kits from a gentleman in another forum, but I'm having an issue with one item he is offering to me. What he offered was a "Heller RF-84", and it is purportedly in 1/72 scale (his entire listing was in that scale). Now, for the life of me I can find no information online referencing a 72nd RF-84 by Heller, only one in 1/48, and AFAIK, the only F-84 in the smaller scale by this manufacturer was the F-84G (which I do not desire). Did Heller perhaps ever re-box the Airfix F-84F? We've been emailing back and forth over the deal and I've asked the g
  8. I just rescued an adult cat from the Humane Society last week (though I'd love one, a dog is kind of difficult in a 400sq ft studio apartment). Other than the fact that she "talks" alot, she's an amazingly calm little furball. I didn't child/pet proof the house yet not a single item has been disturbed by her while she roams around all day with me gone at work; none of the knick-knacks on the tv stand, nor my current project and tools laid out on my work table. Nice kitteh :) This be Empress Wei Miao Ping:
  9. Looking for a (second...) donor engine for my Airfix Boomerang project; I sorta made a major gaff kit-bashing an engine together to replace the 'object' that Airfix provided in the box, and now need to make a second go of it.
  10. o.O there are no other words I can think of for the work so far. Amazing! (and wish I had a lathe...)
  11. My vote to Italeri, by email,, was the CH-37 Mojave in 72nd
  12. Well, that sounds easy.... here's my idea: Appropriate sized silver ball bearing, then overcoat with some Tamiya X-19 Smoke? Could probably get an even better effect (in 1/48, not sure necessary in smaller scale) by vac or smash molding a clear cover to the bearing, then the X-19.
  13. You're right, seems Evergreen forgot to pay the rent on their domain name. But I found these in Plastruct's catalog: MS-125 Square stock 3.2mm up to MS-250 Square stock 6.4mm MS-1012 Rect. stock 2.5x3.2mm up to MS-1925 4.8x6.4mm also in solid sheets, SSS-125 3.2mm thick x 175mm wide x 300mm long Here's the link to their pdf catalog: Plastruct Catalog
  14. Aaron, I'm pretty sure Evergreen does, and also probably Plastruct. I have some pieces out a bag labeled "Odds and Ends" by Evergreen that has some rather thick square stock pieces, about 4-5mm.
  15. Are you talking about the Tamiya lacquer thinner with the yellow lid, or just the X-20A? Never heard of trying the lacquer-based thinners on MM, may test that one tomorrow just for giggles before finally binning all of them.
  16. I had started switching to Vallejo Model Air, but had some... 'mixed' results with certain colors, so considering switching back to Tamiya after almost ten years off of them. Picked up a few surprisingly good color matches for what I'm working on today at (yep) HT on Academy, but they and everyone else in town are still dead out of XF-2, which I need for lightening colors during weathering process and whatnot. And, of course, the VMA/VMC paints I already have (quite a few VMC, actually, from figure painting) absolutely don't play well mixed into Tamiya :/
  17. ...without ending up paying 4-6 times the cost of the bottle in shipping, as some of the few online vendors who have it in stock are doing. Help? Essential component!
  18. Yeah, experienced that one a couple weeks ago too. Best results so far have been either no thinning (Model Airs here) or just a touch of their own thinner and/or a retarder. I'm still up on the fence about them though, did some testing today with a bottle of Tamiya and Mr. Color thinner..... excellent results.
  19. DO NOT....use Mr. Color Thinner with it, lol. Instant acrylic putty. Just spent a good 20 minutes sanitizing my a/b after testing that theory. Lacquer + anything Vallejo = ewwwwwww
  20. Tamiya Fine White Primer, decanted and airbrushed on.
  21. Results with Vallejo Model Air Green Zinc Chrome, the final shade of a four part camo job, were fairly disastrous (which is odd, as all the lighter colors and the ochre yellow worked near flawlessly). So I decided to strip all of the paint and start over, probably using Tamiya now that they are starting to become available again in my area. I stripped the paint alternating between scrubbing/wiping with Windex and for stubborn areas some 91% isopropyl alcohol, rinsed well with water, and then dried it out thoroughly using my airbrush as a blow gun. Is this enough to prevent any ill consequence
  22. I could be wrong, but I believe it is a life-time warranty....
