  1. Getting the wings on has proved to be fairly easy. Sorting out the struts caused a couple of headaches. After adding the upper wing, I was left with an excellent wing / canopy join and six p*ss poor strut joins. Initially, I strengthend the join with thick superglue so the struts were fairly locked in position. After a day or so letting the glue dry, I used milliput to fair in the wing / strut join. My selection of sanding sticks from Little Cars were too large and unwieldy for the sanding job here, so, using the wooden coffee stirrer provided by McDonuts, I glued then to various grades of w
  2. It's been a while, but having had a great two weeks in Crete, we're now back at work. The engine's assembled, though not without some confusion. There are stubs on the top of each cylinder which shouldn't be there and my initial though was aha, these are what the cowling attaches to. Wrong. they are too short to be any use to man or beast so all were removed. This of course leaves the cowling suspended by the carb intake only, not a satisfactory state of affairs by any means. I drilled a hole on three of the cylinders and fixed some sprue in these to attach the cowling to. Unlike the Skua kit
  3. Paolo What you need is a book entitled "Aircraft of 100 Group, a Modellers Guide." I forget who the author is, but Hurrinut has a copy so if you send him a PM, that should solve your problem. The tome has everything you could need, aircraft, camo details, electronic fit, aerials etc etc. There's even a section on USAAF aircraft involved in the Electronic war over Gemany. IAN
  4. Tamiya's 1/12 scale JPS Lotus 72D, which I will build as Ronnie Peterson's when I get the right tyres. IAN
  5. Having left the kit alone until my F14 was finished, it's now time for an update. The wings are attached, with added steel pins for support as they are but-jointed only. A fair amount of filler needed here. The tailplanes have locating lugs, and after a swipe or two with some wet and dry, only neeeded some Mr Surfacer 1200 to eliminate the joins. The Hook recess needed some 500 grade to fill that as did the u/c legs. It doesn't pay to get big ideas in this hobby. My thought was to open the cockpit so the pilots office could be seen. Special Hobby now provide plastic canopies, not vac form
  6. What about a re-tooled Lancaster? That'd stuff e-bay! IAN
  7. Airfix Severn Class Lifeboat (at last), a P26 and a Bf109E-3 in 1/48. IAN
  8. How anyone can want yet more F-16s is beyond me. Tamiya 1/48 F-14A, B, D. Hasegawa's had their shot and if they won't re-tool........................ Dornier night fighters 1/48. RAF pilots and ground crew figures in anything other than 1940 BoB dress. Resin replacement wheels for the Hase F-14. IAN
  9. Nice lookin cat Brian. I tried pre-shading on my latest and frankly, I think the whole procedure sucks! I got a much better result using the base colours mixed with a touch of white to simulate the faded original paintwork and sprayed panels with unlightened base colours along with various mixes to give that 'just worn' look. Finished with pastels and then sealed with Xtracrylic flat (about 10 coats). IAN
  10. Great photos Stellios, but what do they threaten the Turks with, most seem to have no 'winders (for ruining some-ones whole day). Maybe if they carried them, they might comply a little quicker. Or maybe they've just run out of Raki like me. IAN
  11. Having solved the pinting riddle, I got down to a touch of the interior green et al today. Having checked the fit of all the interior parts, making sure the fuselages joined, what happens? You find a piece or two you haven't checked. In this case, the instrument panel and the ribs under to cockpit coaming. Thankfully, the panel was OK, but the ribs, sheesh. I ended up only using one side having cut the part into three as the stbd side I had already replicated in card and anyway the shelf interfered. Seat belts are supplied on the etch fret so a couple of hours saw it to this stage. Serio
  12. Paul Had a quiet mornings pinting today. I can't call it painting until all of Chris' Deathcolor blue has gone from the airbrush, there's always something missing. IAN
  13. The story so far: The pilots office basic, belts, instruments etch to add. Additions to the interior, instruments, radios, seat frames, locker, accumulators, flare chute etc etc. Looking aft. The kit is disappointing in the amount of detail it leaves out, espcially when a great deal can be seen under the canopy. Time to get pinting this lot methinks. IAN
