  1. Hello everyone I screwed up horribly bad on my Hasegawa F-14B, and need an new kit. All I really need is the nose and fuselage areas, as that is as far as I got with the original. My wife and I are expecting a baby in two to three weeks, and are really scrapped for cash. I have seen several F-14A's on here and E-bay for sale pretty cheap, a lot cheaper than any B models I have seen. So my question is this...since I have the GE engines and everything else in my B kit, can I buy and A model and use the nose and fuselage sections? I am aware that the cockpit is different, but I am planning on ge
  2. That goes for me too Darren. I have my A-10 sitting on the shelf with no engine faces...looks aweful naked. All I need is the front. Aaron
  3. No, the pods would just be a retro-fit kind of thing on the block 50/52...you could carry the HTS, and then later the Lighting/Lantirn pod, or visa versa. The 40/42 does not carry the HTS pod. The one thing is, is that the block 40/42 have the WAR HUD, specifically designed for Tp's like the Lantirn, whereas the block 50/52 has the normal HUD of the block 30/32. The one thing I don't know about is how they target things with the short-angle hud, but I know that they do. There is a thread somewhere on here that talks about that...but I can't seem to find it anywhere. I have heard of them employ
  4. It does say you could go down to Texas and look at them....ooops, I mean it
  5. "then aluminium from a beer can was cut and inserted and superglued. nearly drove me crazy....." Hence the beer right?
  6. Someone more knowlegeable will probably come along and add to this, but the AIM-9X is just coming on line, reaching production status in 2004, and is not used all that much. Most of the time, the AIM-9M is used. As for the AIM-120, the C model has "clipped" fins for carriage on the F-22, and I believe that it is the only varient produced now. not to say that later versions are no longer carried, but you could put a AIM-120C on your -16 and be just fine. I hope this helps you. Here a couple of links to help you out with the differences in models. The AIM-120 page has a mean shot of an F/A-18
  7. Jeff You would know what they are carrying now...that is for sure. I guess I should say that the current loadout was the nine GBU's etc, etc. at the start of OEF...as shown by the schematic. How can they carry three AIM-120's? I thought that the inside pylons did not allow carriage of the AIM-120 because of clearence issues with the bottom of the wing and the drop tank. Are the AIM-120C's? I guess they have shorter guidance fins huh? Aaron
  8. Yep. I am...Thank's for setting me straight. I got confused I guess. Aaron
  9. I don't know about those two particular units, but I do know that the AN/ALE-50 is not being carried in OIF/OEF anymore. The SAM/AAA and ATA threat is not considered high enough to carry them any more. When they did carry them, it was usually just one at a time, with a "normal" rail on the other side. Also, remember, that if you use the towed decoys, you can not carry GPS guided weapons like WCMD or JDAM, because they don't have the data link relay. Aaron
  10. No offense there Dave, but strikeeagle.com gets you some design company. You want www.f-15estrikeeagle.com to get you what you want...but he is right...you will find everything you would ever need on this site, including several accurate bomb loads. If you are doing a OEF bird, like I am right now, then the standard load-out is nine GBU-12 LGB's, two AIM-120 AMRAAM's on the outboard wing pylon, two AIM-9 Sidewinders on the inside wing pylon, and two War Reserve Material (WRM) drop tanks Aaron
  11. Are you talking about the Eduard zoom set? If you are, I don't have pictures of it, but I have used it, and it is a great set to use for instrument panels and stuff. A lot of things in there to really dress the cockpit up. I would recommend it. Aaron
  12. I think you can also go by the base. Not positive on this one, but I think all of the jets at Seymour-Johnson are -220 powered, and I know that with the re-assignment of the Alaska birds in the near future, that Mountain Home will all be -229 birds. I don't know, now that I have typed this, it sounds like this could be more confusing then helpful...sorry. Aaron
  13. Toad Very, very easy. If they are plastic, and not resin, take a little Testor's liquid cement, and smother the entire body of the bomb with it (unless it is an LGB, in which case you will not want to get it on the seeker head or control surfaces) and then take a stiff brush and spread it around till you start to get little depressions and such...let it sit till the cement is dry, and then paint it as normal. I, and some other ARC'ers here, have had good results with this. Aaron
  14. Hi Jim I am building a Block 52 Falcon, and am using the TwoBobs sheet for 389th during OIF. These birds at the time of thier deployment did not have the CCIP upgrade, but were upgraded shortly thereafter. As Shawn Hull says on his site, you can always use unit markings, stencils, etc, and just not mission markings, and be just fine. I am going to build mine a CCIP jet, and put the markings on it anyways. I am not all that concerned about 100% accuracy...about 95% is usually good enough for me. Aaron
  15. It looks like Scott at Afterburner Decals is planning some http://s102164210.onlinehome.us/forums/ind...l=Mountain+Home Aaron
  16. There are a couple good shots in the walkaround section here on ARC. Or if you live anywhere near the Seattle area, I would head up to Payne Field in Everett, the Boeing Museum of Flight is restoring a B-52G (the very first picture in this thread I think) Aaron ps. Also check the Air Force web site...www.af.mil
  17. That is correct. His website has said that he has been working on some new stuff for over a month now, and when he gets those things done he is going to re-work the masters for the -110's and the missile rails that were damaged. I have a set of the -110's, and man are they awesome! Aaron
  18. http://s102164210.onlinehome.us/forums/ind...showtopic=97623 This one has my vote! That is one mean lookin' Viper Aaron
  19. I tried to go both the USAFA and ROTC route, and I will tell you that they would not even look twice at me. I have a history of migriane headaches, asthma, sinus problems, and scholiosis (curveture of the spine) So I know that any one of those will DQ you from flying, or even entering the service for that matter. Aaron
  20. Okay man...admit it...you didn't really do the cockpit work did you? You had little pixies with microscopic brushes come at night and paint it...and here you are taking all the credit....beautiful job those pixies did for you. Aaron :)
  21. One other big difference..the "J" model is licence-built by Mitsubishi, not McDonnell Douglas...er...Boeing. but you probably knew that. :)
  22. Unless you are ready for a total headache trying to get it to fit, it isn't worth it. I had the BB set and the Verlinden set, and after dry fitting them both, I got rid of them both. Go with the kit one and you will be just fine. As suggested above, a few resin seats would be a plus, but even those are not critical. Aaron ps. Just in case you are wondering, the Aires exhaust nozzles are not that great either...about the same as the kit-supplied ones...however, if you want a set, I will sell you one for $20.00
  23. So far, only one, the A-10 from the Assam Draggins sheet (pictures to come soon)...but I have both the F-15E and F-16CJ sheets from Mountain Home, and the VF-103 Final Cruise decals in the stash ready to go. The Warthog sheet went on like a dream! I am very impressed. I also love the amount of research that goes into these sheets. Keep up the great work Bob!
  24. Darren Just a question. On the Spruebrothers web site, I looked at your products, and noticed that you have an intake/exhaust cover combo for both "big mouth" and "little mouth" intaked GE engine, and but not one for a PW engine. Any chance of coming out with one for people like me who are trying to do a block 52 PW bird? Aaron
