  1. There's a stunner! Nicely done all around on the Pave Low. I've got to get my hands on the G model and the Cobra Co bits to make one for myself someday. Thanks for showing us your work.
  2. Denial, it's not just a river in Egypt, is it? Still, you've got a fine collection of Marine Air on your shelf.
  3. Another sweet build! I'd like to find a 1/48 Huey to add to the stash, guess for now I'll wait for the -1Y and -1Z to hit the shelves someday. That CAN'T be a V-22 that I saw hiding behind your Huey? Can it?
  4. True. Even in pairs, you're missing capabilities that would be needed for infil/extract or medevac calls...so I'll throw out that in place of a few SH-60s in a battle group, you could use a "Navpache" in a ship protection role against small boats just over the horizon. Maybe threats that the CIWS or harpoon/SAMs can't effectively engage? I love any and all Whif ideas, just look at some of my builds. If someone builds one, that'd be cool in my book.
  5. Couldn't the Navy want/use a navalized version of the Apache for use in littoral waters/on the smaller hulls? More support for the SEALs, maybe? (looks at gas can in hand, book of matches in the other and wonders if he should keep fanning the flames)
  6. I think a NMF would look superb on the warthog. Maybe with some invasion stripes to boot? But you just can't take the GAU-8 from the Hawg. That's bordering on sacriligious! Whatever you decide, post some pics for us to drool over.
  7. My first Corsair years ago was a Tamiya, built it with wings folded. Today, I picked up another Tamiya offering, going to build this one with the wings down, ready to fly... I'm not sure, but rumor has it that the Tamiya kits are pretty good. Maybe someone else here can confirm/deny that?
  8. I had received a notice from the LHS I frequent that they were having a 20% off everything in the store tonight, so I planned to stop in and look around. When I got there, there was the 20% discount, OR you could go for the Buy Two, Get One Free option. I went the 2/1 route: 1/48 Hasegawa A-4M 1/48 Tamiya F4U-1D 1/35 Trumpeter LAV-25 I was eyeing a 1/48 F-86 and a couple other armor kits, but decided to "stay Marine" with tonights purchases. Not a bad haul, though it does blow the moritorium on kit buying I had put in place.
  9. That is coming along quite nicely. Keep us updated.
  10. I don't care who you are...THAT'S funny! Maybe the plan will be to enter the LZ ramp first, so the gunner there can suppress anyone waiting for the grunts to pile off the ramp?
  11. I'd add that one to the stash! Hope some news comes out soon.
  12. Let me check the spares. I know I have some 1/35 TOW launchers somewhere...maybe I have some in 1/48 as well? I'll get back to you.
  13. THAT'S what us knuckle draggers like to hear from the guys flying CAS for us! Danger Close is not a call I like to hear over the radio net. Sounds like things are going great, Jon. Congrats!
  14. I will be keeping my eyes open for one of these, that's for sure. I had a chance to pick one up several years ago when I moved back to NC from Okinawa and I didn't do it. Then the -46 and -53 came out, I found a couple of Killer Eggs and it kinda fell off the radar. Now, would I make a Jolly Green or a Pave Low? I'm thinking Pave Low right now...
  15. Does that sound like incoming, or outgoing????
  16. Actually, deep down, I knew that, I was more projecting my own dissatisfaction with something that was forced on my MOS by "higher HQ" and they still seem to have rose-colored glasses on when it comes to many of the shortfalls inherent in the way we now do business. But then, being on the "VIP list" for tech support probably insulates them from the headaches and fights that I deal with daily. I would have thought that the "one airframe that does it all" would have died the death it richly deserves.
  17. Amen, brother! My rotory wing brethen will still be flying Cobras when the last -64 goes to the boneyard... Well, probably not, but you've got to twist the tails of Army Aviation!
  18. Why do they even leave these kinds of decisions in the hands of generals/admirals? Those guys are so out of touch with what the operators/boots on the ground want/need! I say, let the 0-3/0-4s that will be doing the flying have a crack at it, and then go with what they say is best. Oh, wait, I forgot how things work in the real world. Let me get back to dealing with the awesome computer network that "they" bought for us. Oh, that's right, I can't do my job, I have to call EDS and have them mess it up worse for me.
  19. So, really, strip away the political/public affairs doublespeak and it means...drumroll, please: The Osprey is replacing the Pave Low, only it won't be as capable, as good, or as long lived. And this is coming from a guy that LIKES the V-22!
  20. Oh, I may just have to get one of these babies for the stash! Or better yet, two! Then I can add a pair of 25mm bushmasters in addition to the minis....yeah, that's what I'll do.
  21. I've used CA on several non-styrene bits and pieces, but I've recently switched to 2-part epoxy. It gives you more time to work with getting the parts just right, and I seem to have bad luck with CA not holding as strongly as I'd like and resulting in parts detaching where I had thought the CA was cured.
  22. I can't take credit for the ammo chutes, they were part of an AM set that I had bought. I believe it was a Cutting Edge weapons set originally meant for a MH-60 PaveHawk. It came with 2 metal (but still flexible) chutes and 2 soft vinyl or rubber chutes.
  23. That is gorgeous. I've always wanted to take a stab and NMF on a kit sometime. I'll keep these in mind when I do!
  24. All the reviews I've read say it's a keeper. I've got to add one to the stash eventually, and I've seen some nice VMFA-333 decals to go on it, too.
  25. Just a quick update, the interior is done (as detailed as I'm going to go with it, at least). Here's the pics:
