  1. Good luck with this one, Tracy. Might be better to scan and scale a 1/72 or 1/144 sheet.
  2. So Airbus uses Boeing 707 gray on their jets? Never would have thought that, but it is kinda cool that despite being competitors, they are on the same page with that simple thing.
  3. The internet, cellphones, videogames, et al. are all one huge double edged sword...and it is going to get worse. Most kids still like to run around and play sports, so I don't think obesity is being caused by videogames/internet. People with a tendency to be lazy will just find another way to be lazy. I think calling it a "disorder" is a bit subjective. By that measure, watching a lot of TV is a disorder, or heck even sitting down and reading a book a couple hours a day would be a disorder. I think the real danger here is cumulative, with pretty much immediate electronic access to social,
  4. TFC is a million times better than TG. The best thing about TG was the first 3 minutes, as the music and engines slowly build up.
  5. Paasche H has the best rep of any general purpose airbrush made. It is inexpensive for a name brand (although not as cheap as a imported knock-off), made in the USA, easy to get parts and accessories for, and will last forever. I have been using one for 30 years. You also have to consider if you want a center push trigger vs a trigger mounted farther forward at an angle. The axis of rotation changes slightly between the two types depending on where the trigger is mounted, and that in turn, affects your technique a little. I prefer a center mount because I have to rotate my wrist less to
  6. Can you get inside the boat at all? It does not look like there is any access.
  7. Clear resin casting is practically impossible unless done in a pressure pot or vacuum chamber. Personal experience.
  8. And don't forget the Navy wants to replace it SSBN force with a new design. That will cost a few bucks and is I bet one reason they are lukewarm on the F-35.
  9. No zig zaggy RAM tape, if that is in fact what that stuff was. Is this to be the norm from here on out? I wonder. If so, a lot of kit manufactures have molded in a detail which may no longer be present.
  10. Notice what we DON'T see in this photo?
  11. Well, is it your intention to make a model of a poorly executed model or make a model of a fictional spacecraft? If it is the later, then build it the way it supposed to look as an operational spacecraft per production art. Forget what the yahoos in the model effects shop did or didn't do. Remember, they had the keep the cameras rolling.
  12. What are you, some kind of Canadian tree hugging socialist? You are going to preach environmentalism about the pollution caused by plastic droppers? They are designed to be disposable. There is more plastic in the sprue left over from your build than in the plastic droppers you use painting it. At least I am not filling the air with solvents in an attempt to clean them. What about that pipe cleaner or Q-Tip you need to get your glass dropper squeaky clean? BTW, I put them in the recycle bin. They don't go in a landfill. Don't you have an aggressive recycling program up there?
  13. Nice taxi job. Right dead on the centerline. Funny how I look for CFI stuff whenever I see a plane on the ground. Also, that is a very nice looking aircraft...light but totally military looking.
  14. That is because they are ugly. Their parent company must be Kawasaki. On the other hand, an H&S Infinity looks like a precision crafted jewel. Red anodized aluminum frame....gold plated trigger cam.... .15mm orifice....German engineering. It looks expensive and it is.
  15. Leonard Nimoy has passed. He leaves us as one of the most iconic characters in TV/film history. He certainly was influential in my life. I identified with him very strongly as a geeky, science nerdy kid back in elementary school during Star Trek's original three year run, and have used him my entire life as a model of rational thought and well considered opinion and properly channeled emotion. I even have a picture of me as a second grader in a blue turtleneck with bangs. One of my ears is even slightly pointed (seriously). RIP, and may the attributes of his character resonate for gener
  16. I use the cheap plastic ones available on ebay. Use it once, then pitch it. They are dirt cheap if you buy them in bulk.
  17. I am going to make it easy for you. The tried and true Paasche H has the best rep among all general purpose external mix airbrushes. Easy to use, easy to clean, easy to get parts for, but it never breaks. About 90% of your work is best done with a simple, external mix brush. Tight camo, like in 1/72, is best done using any one of a number of good quality internal mix, dual action brushes..Iwatas, H&S, etc. IMO, to make things easier, two brushes are needed. If you can only afford one, you can get by with one of the larger DA/IM brushes. The problem with that is the fineness and cove
  18. Strategic Missile Ops are now separated. He is not that. He is a 13S.
  19. Thanks everyone for their thoughtful responses. Some of you really took the time to think and offer sound observations and advice. I posted some of your comments in an email to him. All of this is stewing around in his head. What is making this tough for him is that he is REALLY interested in space...as much as flying. So there is the rub...although he would not turn down a pilot slot, he is very torn on the relative merits of CSO vs Space. We are mostly aviators on this board. Our perspective is naturally skewed toward "fly no matter what, in any capacity that you can." The fact that I
  20. You bet your bad..... They are VERY good...recognized virtuoso musicians. They can't even be compared to the shallow pop hair bands of the 80's.....Poison and the like. You can crawl back into your hole now. At least you apologized when you started getting incoming. However, just to be fair, they have a unique sound and style that does not appeal to everyone. These days, the average person on the street doesn't even know they exist.
  21. You are correct. No doubt about it. Unfortunately, as you indicated, the correct attitude comes with some experience. He is young. He knows all that in his head, but on the ground here, he is in a competitive environment with a bunch of other folks all trying to get he most plum job out of school. But even among experienced folks with the correct attitude, there is an unofficial class system in the military among officers...it is just a natural thing. Back seaters/mission specialists think "team" and pilots often think, "team, but I am the QB." No one says it, but it is there. In any c
  22. I think he would stick with space rather than do that. He is loathe to be a back seater and have all the pilot non-engineering types who actually did the drills like they were supposed to look down their nose at him as a CSO with good eyes wondering why he was not good enough to make the cut for pilot. Also, he does not want to be around the planes and not be able to fly them when he knows he can. It was a bit different for me. I looked at it as being part of the team. Not everyone flies the jet and it is not always just about that. In complex mission oriented aircraft, the pilot is oft
  23. I was surprised at the non select. I did not know he was not attending the normal # of drills. He says he was surprised at the non select because the cadre was telling him everything was good. Having never been in ROTC and having never been an officer, I relied on his paying attention to what he was going through to make the correct choices. I know the military tells you exactly what is expected, and he is a smart boy, and if nothing else, it is all written down and handed to you on day 1, as you said. How this slipped by him I have no idea, except for perhaps the thing about the cadre te
