  1. I predict your squadrons will be one less than now. Paint scheme? Who knows? They seem to be awful fond of that medium blue gray for the top of the Hornets, but that is a USN color on a USN developed A/C. The initial JSF test birds are using USAF coloration ala F-16. It will be interesting to see what each service does with them. I do not think the USN will put the F-35 to sea with a high contrast Raptor type (obviously intended for overland use) or F-16 type scheme. The USMC will probably adopt something similar to what they now use on their AV-8's. I predict that at the end of the da
  2. Koji, well, maybe I was being a little harsh. I haven't flown in the fleet for years. We never did tanking at first, but we started buddy store work with the fast movers on the 89 TR/CVW-8 cruise. If I am not mistaken, it was the first east coast F-18 deployment. Anyway, that was fine. We'd give a couple K mission fuel to a couple birds and then go off and do our SSSC mission. But then they took the SENSO completely out of the plane, took out the acoustic processor, and I thought redirected the aircraft's mission to pretty much that of a dedicated tanker. Having no fixed wing indiginous
  3. The Viking community got STUCK with this job. They should've instead been out doing SSSC, ASW, and OTHT (of course you need a blue water enemy to target and we had none. But we could've practiced!). They greatly enhanced the Viking's capabilities with the B upgrade, then the Hornet sucked the life(and gas) out of the community.
  4. That link is broken. Were they selling them there?
  5. Two Bobs is out. I kinda would like to do that one with the red trim flash but not the black tails. I know the Revell kit comes with VF-14 markings, but that is not the boxing I have.

    F-14D

It is a matter of time frame and squadron. There was variation. At the very beginning, there were in fact four grays: light gray, LGG, DGG, and Medium (Blue) Gray. As time wore on, some squadrons did not bother applying the Medium Gray and just stuck with the DGG on top. However, some squadrons (VF-143,for sure. There may have been others) chucked the DGG and painted the whole topside Medium Gray. The medium gray is the same color that most fleet A-7s were painted, and is also the same color as the topside of CF-188s, CP-140s, and at least one USN F-18 squadron (VFA-83). It is aso featur
  7. I ordered one yesterday, and got an e-mail saying it was shipped today.
  8. Well it was someone else in another thead who tipped me off. I was gonna wait for the Revell F to show at Hobby Lobby. But the price was just too good to pass up, really. The funny thing is, I STILL ended up paying over three times what I paid for the E at Hobby Lobby to get the Hase F. Hobby Lobby had the Revell E for 16.95 minus the 40% coupon. I did not know there were two boxings of the Revell E. I'm kinda bumbed out about not getting the JDAMs.
  9. typos and failure to proof my post. DOH! (smacks forehead)
  10. maybe someone will know something more this time around. Does anyone really know how the Navy intends to utilize the two planes differently? I assume this is going to be a some primary mission emphasis difference or else they would not have bothered procuring two versions.
  11. Problem solved! I don't have to make a choice. I posted elsewhere that I bought the 1/48 Hase F-18F for 32.50 online at Hobbybuy.com. With shipping it came to $40. Good deal, and I was able to put the extra I would have paid retail toward a BB ACS pit and some of Brian's decals. Now that I have a Hase F on the way, I went down to Hobby Lobby with my 40% coupon and got a Revell E for 10.88 out the door! I looked at it in the box and it looks pretty nice. It is certainly worth 10.88. I don't know when they will get the Revell F on the shelf, but I guess I won't need one anyway! However, m
  12. I just sprung for the Hase 1/2 price F offer elsewhere on the net. $32.50 plus postage gets it to my door right at $40. I usually build 1/72 but will go up to 1/48 now and then for something cool. I already pre-ordered the decals last week. I was kinda waiting for the new Revell F to hit the shelf at Hobby Lobby and hustle them with my 40% coupon, but when I saw that the Hase kit had dropped flaps and wingfolds and was just a better kit overall and on sale at half of retail, I just could not resist. I would never have paid $65 for it, however. But $32.50 is a very good deal. Of course
  13. Neutral gray? Is the lighter gray is now neutral gray? It used to be light and dark ghost gray. What's up with that?
  14. I notice there is no light/dark ghost gray demarkation on the forward fuselage or around the intakes. How long have they been doing that? Forgive my ignorance if they have been doing this for years.
  15. The AF is just boneheaded half of the time when it comes to naming their planes. I think the B-1A was originally called the Excaliber, and then when production authority was given for the B-1B, they came up with Lancer. Better. "Bone" is obviously not appropriate for a formal name, but it does fit the aircraft's look, numerical designation, and mission (lets hit them over the head with a "bone"). Now, the Navy, on the other hand, clearly does a much better job selecting names and making them stick. Phantom, Tomcat, Hornet, Corsair, Intruder, Viking, Hawkeye, Prowler are all solid choices.
  16. Yeah, very nice. But no decal availibility, sadly. All gone.
  17. Raven would be pretty good..goes with Raptor nicely, even though it was used for the EF-111 "Spark Vark." Incidently, Aardvark was a great name for the regular F-111. Kestral is a no go. Too British/Harrier sounding. Cobra would be pretty good, even thought it was used for the YF-17. I kind of like Mako, as in the shark species. There are lots of other cool ones if they would just use their imagination. No need to settle for Lightning II.
  18. The Air Force should have learned after the F-22 that the name Lightning II was going to get a cool reception. It was almost as if the guy that tried to get Lightning II assigned to the F-22 and failed was bound and determined to make it stick to the F-35. I wonder if this was a Lockheed idea. They should have listened to some pilot input. I'll bet no one would have come up with Lightning II, for goodness sake. There are a lots of other good names they could have used. Maybe we could get a petition going! BTW, what happened to the F-24/35/26 designation, etc. How did thet get all the w
  19. As I said, I don't know much about the Revell paints. They do not sell them here in the USA. Give em a shot and see what they look like. If you still are suspicious, let me know. I can easily draw some Testors MM and send you a card so you can compare and match.
  20. The problem is the Humbrol paint. It is not accurate for these two colors. It has been that way since Humbrol introduced them into their line over 15 years ago. I had the same problem once. In 1990/91 I was trying to build a TPS A-6. Like most modelers, I am always trying to find and use the best quality products. I was on Humbrol kick at the time because the Testors model master series paint quality was crappy in comparison to Humbrol. MM sprayed well, but if you tried to do manual brush touch up afterwards, the color dried a different hue and would not lay down and blend in. Larger a
  21. Judging by the pattern in the inside of the left fin, it looks like the classic early Flanker scheme, just done in grays instead of blues.
  22. HAAAA! Well that one looks pretty gray(grey) for sure! Thanks. Voodoo Gray? Thanks David and Aussie. I wonder if MM still makes that color.
  23. I sure would love to get ahold of those decals in 1/72. Alas, all gone.
  24. You know it Ken. It is just a little too much conversion to take on. I do hope Trump steps up to the plate on this and gives us a dedicated SU-33 instead of a doctered up bastardization of a land based version.
