  1. Hello all, I'd like to join with one of my long-time shelf sitter Italeri 1/72 Su-34 Fullback It was started about three years back, but I somehow stalled when I saw all the small and big modifications necessary to turn it into an accurate replica... Now I will soon have more beautiful shelf space and more finished kits are needed to go behind the nice glass doors. So the Su-34 shall be one of them. I will keep the build quite simple tho, mostly OOB. A few small tweaks here and there as I go along but I don't wanna get lost again...deadline in the summer sure sounds feasible for now. Loo
  2. The topic of the correct color of Passion Wagon has long been a subject of discussion in several modeller forums. You see about half of the finished models in Olive Drab and the rest with varying shades of green and olive. The decal maker even opted out by naming the color MOD (Matt Olive Drab) but printing the instructions in a much greener shade than OD. While I did not have access to the reference you mention, several pictures online show the original plane in a color that to me looks sufficiently close to the Gunze Olive Drab I used. There remains also the element of uncertainty how wel
  3. Nice work! I've never seen that scheme, looks really special! Re scribing raised panel lines, I'm also just getting started at this art, I found it easiest to rescribe all parts before assembly and fitting and sanding, just follow the raised lines. First used just a sharpened nail, now with the Trumpeter tool it's going better and better. Looking forward to seeing more of your work, Cheers, Andy
  4. Hello all, following a few pics of my recently finished Airfix 1/72 Vampire Trainer, in colors of the Swiss Air Force, as displayed at the type's decommissioning in 1990 at the Emmen airfield. U-1215 was sold to England and is still flying. The kit is really neat and goes together well. The only fit issue was found on the underside of the wing to fuselage joint. The cockpit region was tuned up a bit with some duct work and a few styrene bits, and seat belts from beer can aluminium. Decals come from Matterhorn Circle (www.mc-one.ch) and they worked splendid, I can only recommend this local s
  5. Hello Ken, Yes the Trumpeter announcement shook this build out of hibernation... From the boxart I take it the kit will build into the later modification with the TVC nozzles and overall blue camouflage. So my build will be the earlier issue with the yellow primer finish to have some distinction at least. Besides, the prototype touch of that one appeals more to me😜 Cheers, Andy
  6. The next steps. The plug was coated with epoxy resin which was dyed black to better show surface defects: When hard this was wet sanded with grade 1200 sandpaper. Not sure if all countries use the same grading of sand paper, 1200 is quite fine. Afterwards it looked like this. Its not perfect yet and will receive another coat and sanding session, but it should be ok for a few test pops. Some panhandle frames were made, with the cutout slightly larger than the outline of the plug. The plastic is held between the frames using the laundry clamps (use wooden type!!!). Some blanks of the p
  7. Splendid work on the Iranian Tiger, love the camo! The Hobby Boss (ex Minicraft) kit is a piece of work, especially the intakes, but you did it justice! Btw also love the picture of the Swiss plane firing its cannons. You can actually see one bullet in front of the plane!!! Andy
  8. Yeah the intakes keep me worried. I need to measure them in detail, they just 'look' to small but I can't point it really. Honestly with all the nice flanker kits being kitted these days, it's crazy to put that much work into this old dog, but somehow I like working with old kits and trying to learn from the scratchbuilding. Really looking forward to the Zvezda Sea Flanker, is there any word when it might appear? Cheers, Andy
  9. Thanks guys for the encouragement! I'm working off and on on this one, often switching to other, easier builds in between to get some success sensation. I need to see how the canopies turn out, hope that this step can be checked off before the holidays which start early for me this year :-))))) Andy
  10. Thanks Joel! Weathering was quite lightly, with a burnt umber wash (Vallejo) and some drybrushing with silver. Exhaust stains with brown (underneath) and black pigments, all sealed in flat coat. A trick that works nicely is to post-shade the panel lines with clear flat, just that they are the slightest touch more flat than the rest of the panels. Silver drybrush comes last of course, needs to shine ;-) Cheers, Andy
  11. Thanks for the reply Polo! I need to try! Cheers, Andy
  12. Thanks for the info polo, i have to try. When you say you cut the tape, do you first put the tape on the model and then mark it and cut it? I'm afraid this would leave a cut mark on the paint underneath. Cheers, andy
  13. Stellar work Polo! It looks like you rescribed the Heller kit? How did you mask the color pattern? Did you cut the masking on the model? I recently painted a Kfir freehand without masking and the borders came out too soft for 1/72 Cheers, andy
  14. Now, where was I? ;-) There we have it. With Hobby Trumpeter's kit in final approach I better get this project done before it is completely obsolete. The canopy had me stalled and then, life got in the way by means of many other projects...I guess we've all been there. So I resume right where it was left, and see if I can thermoform a canopy fitting to the already modified fuselage with the twin cockpit. Hard wood is used to make a plug of the canopy shape: Drawing the canopy on the plug after studying the reference pics: Cutting the shape on the saw... ...it goes from edgy...
  15. Congrats on a stellar build! Love the paint scheme, you dont see the olive over aluminium so often. She seems to have had a very leaky oil cooler. Cheers, andy
  16. Hello all, long time no posting, but now I have a couple of models finished or soon to be finished. Also I finally got around to make a simple soft box in order to improve on my pictures quality. The lighting is still not bright enough in my opinion but the result is a big step forward from the previous bench pictures. Model is Capt Charles Weaver's 'Passion Wagon' from 1944, an early P-51D model where the dorsal fillet at the fin root was not yet installed. Kit: Tamiya P-51D, scale 1/48 Aftermarket: Ultracast P-51D Early Tail Decals: Kits World 'Passion Wagon' Apart from some seatbelt
  17. Ahh a NASA group build, just what the doctor ordered. Picked this up at the post office past week: Will be a out-of-box build. Just hope to finish it within deadline, got too many projects running at the same time. Looking forward to your builds, Cheers, andy
  18. Beautiful Morane! Especially like the camouflage on top! I was not aware of the HB kit, need to add one to my Swiss collection one day. Gruess, Andy
  19. Hej guys, thanks for your continued interest! Unfortunately the build has been laying low the last months...I want to build a vac former first to pop a canopy, and lots of other projects got in the line over time. I need to reduce my stash considerably so at the moment it's one 1/48 prop plane after the other for me. Guess somewhere in between I could tackle some non cockpit related steps of this unique Sukhoi... ...but thanks for keeping me motivated :-P I get back here as soon as there is something post worthy! Kind regards, Andy
  20. Looks like a great start on the cockpit! The kit is a piece of work to get it to look like a up-to-date Strike Eagle. I did the same build a few years back and posted about the mods done at the time: http://s362974870.onlinehome.us/forums/air/index.php?showtopic=236951&st=0&p=2258558entry2258558 Good luck with your project! Andy
  21. A wonderful build! Especially like the antenna, as well as the paint finish! Gotta love these dark Navy birds. -a
  22. Hello everyone, I propose my entry to this group build which is my first ever group build participation. Republic A-10A Thunderbolt from 511 TFS, 10 TFW based on RAF Alconbury in summer 1991 after returning from deployment to the Gulf. The 1/72 Revell kit has been lingering around in my stash for about a decade and the present group build is a welcome motivation to get it finally started. It will be built out of the box, with the above mentioned unit decals which are contained in the boxing. No AM goodies are planned to be included at this time. Regards, Andy
  23. Well I do the whole variety there is... I have built kits of mediocre detail offering and went to great lengths for superdetailing, builds which have taken me several years of off and on work to get finished. Then there are the OOB builds of mostly modern high quality kits which are just as fun to do and to look at and which offer instant gratification. There is also the point that I intend to significantly reduce my stash so at this time I go more for the OOB and let the scratchbuilds reside. For me it is pure hobby and as such it should be fun at all times be it going for accuracy or fast
  24. Thanks! I will see how I will do on an upcoming Shiden. Regards, Andy
