  2. I previously had a GTX 1070Ti before the 1080Ti I have now. Both were used in mining. However, I haven't had any issues with any used cards I have bought and I have been using previously owned cards for well over ten years, probably longer. It really depends on how the card was run during the mining and in some instances running a card at a constant moderate temp can actually be good for the card. So each their own but it can be a path to getting a better card than you could afford otherwise. To me, buying a card that is still considered pretty close to what the latest cards run at was worth the price of admission. The card I bought for $380.00 I can now sell for $800.00 because of the crazy demand. I'd still have to replace it and probably couldn't buy a new card that can perform as well as this one. I realize it doesn't have ray tracing and a few other goodies the newer cards have but this one plays any of the latest games at the highest settings easily.

    11Bee,

You are welcome.  Enjoy the sims.  My current system is giving me 20 fps on low setting lol!  I've been saving up, and have decided that I will wait til next year to see what comes as far as CPU/GPU are concerned.  I wont pay scalper prices for a GPU. So, I may as well wait.

You may not have to spend a bundle on a GPU to run a FS efficiently. I bought my previously used EVGA GTX 1080 Ti for $380.00. The card is two gens back from the ridiculously priced 30xx series cards, coming out in 2017. It runs MSFS2020 on ultra settings and my monitor is running at 3440x 1440 smooth with no stuttering. I also ran the Steam VR test video and the card passed with flying colors. (No pun intended). There are deals out there for a really good used card, maybe until prices come down on newer cards. The rest of my system is current gen CPU, RAM and Mobo.  When funds allow I'm going with the Honeycomb yoke and throttle system. It looks to be the most versatile for gen av subjects.

How do you like the X52?   It seems to be one of the few rigs out there that would work for me at a decent price point.   I used to have a Thrustmaster HOTAS and throttle.  Fantastic hardware but both throttle and stick broke after less than 3 years of use.   Not what I would have expected for what I paid for them.  Both units have been at the bottom of a landfill for the last 10 years.

The X52 is ok. It works fine but the button arrangement for using is confusing. I use it for MSFS2020 gen aviation but it really is more oriented toward the fighter type sims. I want a yoke but the TM Airbus setup looks enticing since it does have a stick controller. It probably would work well with fighter type sims.

I7/10700, 16gig 3200hz RAM, 3060ti and 1Tb SDD.    Somewhere down the road I’ll add more RAM and SDD space.   Got a great deal on it.  Not a bleeding edge machine but it should serve me well for quite a while.

Looks like you got a Dell/Alienware machine. I hope it didn't come with a lot of bloatware on it.

That's not bad. It should run MSFS2020 at full settings if your ISP connection is fast enough. I have a Ryzen 7 3700X, 32gb 3200 RAM, EVGA 1080Ti SC2 w/11gb ddr5+ ram and it runs MSFS all up at the highest setting just fine.

Finally got approval from the Minister of Finance to put my 11-year old PC out to pasture.   Got a new PC that will hopefully serve me as long as my dear departed Dinocomputer.

    No photo description available.

It's truly amazing.   I had a basic FPS game (Team Fortress 2) that used to take 15 minutes to load, assuming it didn't lock up and force me to reboot.  It now is up and running in a minute.   I can now finally start looking at some of the flight sims I've been drooling over for the last decade.    FS2020 or DCS?  Leaning towards DCS but I'll need to avoid the modern jets since I have a pretty basic joystick setup.  I've seen some posts about DCS, anyone have experience with the WW2 subjects?

See you guys in the virtual skies!

What are the specs on your new computer?

I know, I faced the same realization when I did my complete JR line.  Discovered after an extreme rebuild of an "E" that there was a harder to find resin nose conversion, which I got too late.  Windscreen had to be redone too since the IRST seeker would be non-existent.

Best of luck on your JR lineage; mine took me a decade of intense research and building, 30 planes strong....

I may instead go with VF-33. Always liked their markings as well.

Negative.  Only the F8U-2/F-8C.  They had them originally under the name F8U-2, with the original Vought seats.  By the time they were retired after the Cuban Missile Crisis (which they participated in), they had been renamed F-8C and had been fitted with the Martin Baker seats.  Crew member I spoke with said fitting the new seats was a tough job, like fitting a square peg to a round hole (his words).

Too bad. It seems the only kits available are the latter F-8's with the enlarged nose with seeker. Love to do a complete Jolly Rogers aircraft collection.

No, he won't - he is changing most of the options.

Great news! I certainly would have bought a couple of sets if he was not but this I am looking forward to. I hope VF-33 is included in one of his sets.

  11. Jeffrey at Hypersonic is working on a few things for the new FJ-3. As for the cockpit, he will essentially be combining the turtle deck from his -2 set with a new antenna array native to the -3. He will also do an update on the seat for the -3 as well. He will also be doing the same treatment to the intake that he did to the -2 however he will not be doing a complete intake trunk as of now.(possibly subject to change knowing Jeffrey). That set may have the same exhaust parts as well. The nose gear leg is applicable to both kits so nothing will change there. If you do not want to fill in the ribbed stabs, his resin set supplies those.

Unfortunately I think Caracal Decals will be simply up scaling the decals sets from the 1/72 -3 Fury Sword kits. Too bad. I hope I am wrong. There are many more active fighter squadrons that operated the -3 Fury with colorful schemes. Perhaps some other decal printers like Furball or Fightertown will do one of their multi squadron sheets for the kit if Caracal does not.

  12. I have only started to assemble the two seat Coug. I do have both the two seat and single seat Cougs. I'm not very far along as I have other kits I would rather be doing right now. However, I did test assemble the aft fuselage halves. I then assembled the mid fuselage part to the aft assembly. Take care to align the seams. I used shim plastic inside the seam to give more surface reinforcement to the joint. If you take your time, test fit you will have a pretty good joint. The fillet along the mid fuselage part will need a little filler but nothing drastic. If I recall you will need to trim a couple of the tabs that slot into the fillet. That is as far as I have gotten because I wanted to see how well this area assembled. I think the kit is actually quite nice. Certainly far better than what existed before in 1/48. I would say just test fit and adjust before applying glue.

It does test patience. But it does look good finished and on the shelf.  I think it must be an early effort by KH, I remember the sprue trees being the thickest I have ever seen in a kit like a limited run thing. The newer KH Flankers I've built are pretty good.

Yes, their sprues were quite thick. If IRC the Cougs were their second and third 1/48 kits released after their F-94 Starfire. I recall having a conversation with the then Kitty Hawk rep at the Orlando Nationals in 2012. The Starfire was their only kit out then. He told me they were going to release two USN 50's jet kits. I asked if one was going to be a Tiger and he said no. I was disappointed but glad they didn't in retrospect. I think their kits have improved quite a bit since. The Coug sprues are very thick but I think the kits are fairly accurate if somewhat overly complex. However in their defense they chopped up the fuselage to produce the two versions with a minimum of having to create totally new molds. They are not the only manufacturers to do that.
