  1. I think (but could be completely wrong) the Testors 1/48 F-4 comes with those decals (sorry, just wrapped it as a christmas present). Anthony, Check Hi-way Hobby, since that's where I got this one...
  2. Thanks a bunch Jason. I'm leaving Monday for Berlin, so, I appreciate the fast reply (to give me time if needed to exchange it, lol) ;)
  3. Any issues building it otherwise though? Major seams, warped parts, tough spots.... things of that nature?
  4. Yup, I know... (studied the directions to see how it was set up for the different aircraft)... though what I figured I would do is use something to create a "wall" so that it wouldn't have a space where it's cut... But I wanted to make it also so that if you were to cut the model down the spine, it would be what it should be (either F or G)... does that make sense? (I know I can do it easy enough). The decals (nicely enough) come with US and German markings, which is why I'd like to stick that way (especially since the only difference is the top of the tail, and the fairing under the nose
  5. I just picked up the 1/48 Testors F-4G/F "Wild Weasel" as an inexpensive F-4 model for my girlfriend and I to do. She's never built a model, so I thought I'd start small (easy). She's also German (lives in Berlin) and I'm in the states, so the F-4 was my option... and will build it as a F/G (Port side as US G, Starboard as German F, with camo and markings for the respective side). My question is this, has anyone built this one before? My modeling skills aren't top notch, but I don't want this "first" model together to turn out as a major project either. I'm only in Berlin for a few weeks befor
  6. I'm in the same position as "I Love Airbrushing"... Trojan, what you said about the decals makes sense... about the weathering though, I've seen a lot of different variations... such as using a marker on the panel lines before final painting, using oils and other washes after decaling... What's a good way for a beginner to start with?
  7. Does anyone know of a good model shop in Berlin? I'm going to be there in a few weeks, and my girlfriend/fiance wants us to build something together... I just don't want to try to take a kit on the 8 hour flight.
  8. Sounds good to me. Pick a day and place, and I'll be there.
  9. Hehe... well, if it weren't for the fact that I'm flying to Berlin Germany on the 18th of Dec. for 3 weeks (going to get engaged) I'd be all for it... We have to get together before Feb. though, because I'm giving the 1/32 F-18 I'm working on as a birthday gift.
  10. In the past, I've done a few different easy methods on the exhaust nozzles (using flat black with dry brushing silver) which for me looked good... Now that I'm getting into the more detailed builds, What's the best way to get them looking realistic for my 1/32 F/A-18C? When I future (gloss coat) the model for weathering, should I do the same in that area, weather it, then dull coat it? Sorry for the simple questions... I'm still learning the best methods.
  11. That's what College is all about (at least the drinking part anyway). Actually, I think it'd be good if the 3 of us can get together. I'm having issues with my F-18 that could better be shown how to do than explained.
  12. well, welcome to the Garden State. Anthony, what are you going to do after HS, besides build models
  13. Haha, sounds like me. I do a lot of flying out of Greenwood Lake (4N1). Do you go up there at all?
  14. Definately. Are you two still in school, out of school, gettin' old (like me) or retired?
  15. ok, here's what I did... (no pictures just yet). On a thin piece of wood, I used spackle, 3 coats. The final coat, I used a wire brush to move the spackle around to give it the non-skid texture of the carrier deck. Then I sprayed it black, followed by a few grey mists to give it a "used" look. I'm waiting to see the results when it's all dried, but it looks good so far. I'm contemplating on making the JBD, but not sure if I should use wood or sheet-metal... any ideas?
