  1. Finemolds 1/48 X-Wing. OOB. As expected, an amazingly well engineered kit. Too bad the decals suck but in the end, pretty happy with the results.
  2. 1/32 Italeri F-104G. OOB. Overall, nice kit. Lots of excellent details (like the ladder, engine and tail dolley) and tons of decal options, but a mediocre cockpit. If I can pick up another for cheap I will definitely get some aftermarket decals and build that NASA bird.
  3. Thanks! One more for this thread and I'll post a few more over on the completed
  4. Finito ! One more for this thread and I'll post some more over in the Holonet thread. Thanks for looking!
  5. Thanks. Just thinned Payne's Gray. I really like it for adding a bluish black shadow to panels when you don't want to go for the full burnt umber....
  6. Started prepping the stand. First coat of future; Sludge wash time: Mostly cleaned off:
  7. Done ! Hey...where is everybody? OK. Missed the deadline but still wanted closure. Will add a few more studio style pics tomorrow. Had a nice sunset for a backdrop tonight
  8. @SERNAK - You just missed it ! Luckymodel was having a killer sale ! I picked up the 1/32 VIII for $79 !
  9. @GEH737 - That's a good looking build ! How did you paint the stand so that the lettering was in a contrasting color?
  10. I like that loop trick ! I've got a Shelf Queen Millennium Falcon that needs fiber optics and lighting to be finished....I'm gonna watch how you finish this one up.
  11. @Bigasshammm - Surprising when you consider how great the models are ! Stunningly good engineering.
  12. Glad that the wing decals are meant to be weathered. Finemolds' decals don't conform well over compley shapes, even slightly raised panels. Nevertheless still looks ok. Closeup shows how the decal breaks rather than conformm to the raised panel. Again, not a problem since t adds to the effect. Maybe I was pusihing too hard by Microsol rather than Microset.
  13. @nicholassagan - Thanks! Starting to look like an X-Wing now Like somebody else mentioned the Finemolds decals are a bit delicate so this stage will need to take longer than I thought.
  14. Major parts are assembled and painting is complete First decals are on. Should blast through most of the rest this weekend.
  15. Looks like we're almost halfway there already ! I'm only just starting the process and haven't solicited outside prizes for raffling, but I can assure GB participants that there WILL be goodies/gift certificates to win! Till then, shameless excuse to bump the thread and post some old builds.
  16. Name: Spitfire: 80th Anniversary Group Build Dates: March 5, 2016 - January 1, 2017 Mods: nickdanger, ? Link to planning thread Description: Thought it would be nice to start the GB next year on the 80th anniversary of the Spitfire's first flight, March 5, 1936 (though there is some confusion) and run it through the anniversary of the last operational RAF flight, January 1, 1951. While it's a subject that is already quite popular, the last few years have been good to Spitfire fans with excellent kits at a variety of scales and Marks from multiple kit manufacturers.
  17. I second the vote for Pegasus! My 9 y/o son did their P-51. Also if the kids are good with smaller items and have some hand eye coordination, the EasyBuild kits in 1/72 from Hobbyboss are inexpensive and nicely detailed. Plus there are plenty of interesting planes to build.
  18. I have two Tamiya 1/32's and the Eduard Royal class double kit in the stash and ready for launch. Very much look forward to a new GB. Looking back, the last GB dedicated to the Spitfire was 2009 so we're due. Keep those votes coming!
  19. Aloha, I wanted to gauge support for a group build celebrating the 80th anniversary of the most beautiful plane (IMHO) to grace the skies, the Supermarine Spitfire. Thought it would be nice to start the GB next year on the 80th anniversary of the Spitfire's first flight, March 5, 1936 (though there is some confusion) and run it through the anniversary of the last operational RAF flight, January 1, 1951. 20. Update: all major parts painted. Just adding panel variation and will proceed to decals. Close-up: As expected tine FineMolds level of engineering is top notch. Model just falls together.
  21. Small update. Got the wings and engines together:
