You should really be speaking to Hannants before posting on a public forum. There's plenty of contact infoon their site. John

Aeroclub produce a nice injection moulded upgrade kit for the Airfix Mk.IX that cures most of the kit's shortcomings. If you go for the Airfix kit then I think it'd be worth your getting this. I haven't built the kit yet but I look forward to doing so. John

The exterior colour was a vermillion shade of red (Humbrol 60, Matt Scarlet should do the job). As for the interior, the the floor, instrument panel and fuselage panelling areas would be a wood colour; the rest would be clear doped linen (Humbrol 74). The exterior colour tended to bleed through the fabric so the clear doped areas could be dry brushed to give red streaks. Any framework would be an aluminium colour. Under surfaces were red. Hi, I'm in the process of adding detail to the cockpit of my 1/48 Airfix Mk. I and correcting some of its anachronisms (such as having head and seat armour fitted). Do any of you more knowledgeble bods know whether oxygen for the pilot was fitted to these early machines? Thanks in advance, John

Hi, I want to start building a 1/72 Battle of Britain collection but, being somewhat ignorant where German aircraft are concerned, I don't know which kits to buy. What I need are the folowing: JU87 Bf110 He111 JU88 DO17 Are suitable marks of these a/c available? Thanks in advance, John

The appearance of the cockpit can be greatly improved by cementing plastic card onto the rear of the bulkhead to increase its thickness, making it extend into the cockpit by about 1/2 a canopy frame. John

I've noticed the same thing with the Revell Spitfire Vb. Do they use inferior material for their new moulds in order to keep the retail price low? John

Hi, Can anyone tell me the correct colour to use? Thanks, John

... panel lines, that is. I have mixed feeling about this and was wondering whether or not ARC members use washes to highlight the panel lines on their models. John

I've made a start with the canopy. The Airfix canopy is spot on in terms of width. The hood is too long, however. I first fit the windscreen by sanding the fuselage recess to suit the bottom curve. It isn't a perfect fit and some filler will be necessary later. I then taped it and the Tamiya rear part (which is a better fit than the Airfix part) in position and reduced the length of the hood till it fit between. John

I haven't built the Airfix kit but I'm using the canopy and prop from it to convert the Tamiya Mk.I I know the Tamiya has outline issues, but for me detail errors (see here, post #6: http://www.arcforums.com/forums/air/index....irfix+spitfire) and over-simplified engraved detail on the Airfix are more noticeable (especially as I like to emphasise the latter with washes). But each to their own. I havn't built the Airfix Mk.IX either but I've just got the Aeroclub correction kit for it and it might be next on the production line. John

Interesting! This colour, even allowing for the vagaries of reproduction, is VERY close to FS34138 or the "apple green" recommended in the Model Alliance instructions. (My mix for FS34138 is Humbrol 101 with a little Humbrol 120 added.) I came across some photos of a restored Walrus on the Internet and the interior colour seemed closer to that than the standard Grey/Green. This lends weight to the theory that I came across on here (I think it was Edgar's, again) that the interiors of the Supermarine seaplanes, the S6 and the early Spits may all have been the same colour. Has anyone noticed that there isn't a canopy provided for the Mk.II included in the decal options? There is one with a bubble type hood, a flat type for an early Mk.I and a bulge-sided one for a Mk.V. The Mk.IIs, however (certainly NK-K), had a dome-topped canopy to accomodate taller pilots but it didn't have bulged sides. These, which gave improved rear vision, were fitted to later a/c. As far as I know all vac-form replacements were designed to fit the Tamiya kit. With a little work on the fuselage, sanding it down here and packing it there, I've managed to make the Tamiya canopy parts fit,

I note that the item's back to its starting price, 99p, with no bids. I wonder if those who bid it up again have read this thread, or did someone warn them? To be fair to the guy, though, he did post the question about it being an empty box so that others could view it.

It reads as an inept con attempt. Check out his negative feedback and his nasty responses too.
