Thanks for the link... looking forward to some build reviews.

For whatever it's worth, a couple thoughts from a guy who has been around the Hog every day for over 20 years...

    - Looks like, while the tail cone AAR-47 sensors are present, they didn't include the wingtips ones.  The sensor is a complex little detail that may be tough to add; hopefully the aftermarket guys will come to the rescue.

    - The ECS housing ("doghouse") between the nacelles is way too tall, but it should be straightforward to just knock it down in height with a file and plastic card.

    - The surface detail looks great. The verdict on how good the kit is will, in my eyes, be how all those individual parts come together to represent the whole.  The A-10 is actually a fairly complex series of shapes that, in my opinion, only Monogram has captured accurately.  Modern kits like those from Italeri and Hobbyboss don't come close, particularly the former.

With the exception of the absent MWS sensors, it looks like Academy is providing a solid baseline A-10C.  As always, you'll have to research the specific subject you're modeling, as the upgrades have continued and still will.  Little stuff like replacing LOX with OBOGS, new EGI, new and relocated panels in the cockpit, etc.

For the Italeri kit but you get the idea

Understood. What I’m asking is, with what’s in the box, what can be built? Only a blk 20 A or C?
For someone deciding if they should get this kit, what can reasonably be built from what’s in the box (A, ADF, some version of an MLU) ?
    thanks!

    From what's in the box, bearing in mind that the plastic in both is identical and that some options will require strengthening plates the subject of which has been frankly flogged to death here you can build the following;

    F-16A Block 15

    F-16A Block 20 Taiwan.

    F-16AM MLU.

For an F-16ADF there are bulges tail parts but you would need to replace the IFF parts, the AIM-7 Sparrow pylons are included in the Kinetic F/A-18C.

    F-16C Block 25

    F-16C Block 32

    F-16C Block 42

    F-16C Block 52

There are tail extension parts and fairings included which mean that export versions are a possibility.

  3. CVW-14 on the USS Abraham Lincoln had the F-14D (VF-31) and F/A-18E (VFA-115) on deployment 2002-2003 including Operation Iraqi Freedom.  IIRC when the USS Nimitz was enroute to the Persian Gulf, VFA-14 and VFA-41 forward deployed 2 x F/A-18E and 2 x F/A-18F to the Lincoln for use as additional tankers.

I honestly don't understand why there is such a nag relating to the strengtheners not being included? No other kits that represent MLU or block 40/42's have these. So we are acustomed with buying this from the aftermarket manufacturers. And as already mentioned by some - it is time dependant as these were gradualy introduced over time.

And it is not like there are non available - all of these have been around for years:

Probably others too, but this a selection.

I've used both Daco and FLD in the past, and vinyl is definately the preference as they are easier to attach correctly on the fuselage compared to photo etch. PE is also a drag as you have to attach it by using super glue. Vinyl is far less messy.

    Exactly!

Kinetic would have had to mould several sets of fuselage parts to allow for the various strengthening plates layouts depending on versions.

How many of those tens upon tens upon tens are still available?  I’ve looked recently and there are very few sheets in stock anywhere, unless you go to the secondary market like eBay.  I would already have a ZM kit on the way if I could find other decals for it.

There are Two decal sheets coming from Reid Air Productions. One is a reissue of the 1/48 Combat Weasels sheet, the other is a new sheet covering all the various camouflage schemes. They're not available yet but will be soon.

the pictures make it look like aircraft there are kept in spotless hangers, I thought that aggressor aircraft were unable to be fully combat capable, but maybe that was Navy Top Gun adversary aircraft.  As for Thunderbirds, aren't they required to be able to be turned combat capable rapidly? Blue
Angels too? isnt there a story of a Blue Angel aircraft that went into combat in same paint scheme.  I thought that some of the early Raptor and F-35s that were development aircraft serve as Aggressors as they are not fully combat capable

I'm pretty sure that hangers are necessary in Alaska during October. All USAF F-16 aggressors are combat capable.

I'll second that for the Eurofighter.

Eurofighter would be sweet.  I wouldn’t mind some NATO oriented sheets

On the Eurofighter front, Qatar has just started to take delivery of their aircraft. They would be a nice option.
