  1. Brian, model it the way you want. Photo evidence proves SBARC was not accurate. The only way to screw up is to put on LEX fences and no vert tail cleats, and I've seen lots of CF18s done that way. Doesn't spoil the build anyway, as most won't notice. Model on !!! Tony
  2. However, the IP questioned what came first or did these mods happen at the same time. Photo evidence has shown the vert tail cleats were installed on CF-18s before the LEX fences were installed. So, to model a CF18 with only vert tail cleats and no LEX fences would be correct as per the timeline. Tony
  3. pic of 188723 of 410 Sqn in '88 at the Moose Jaw airshow. Vert tail cleats can just be made out on the port fin--no LEX fences yet. Cheers, Tony
  4. Pictures of an '18 with LEX fences and the inside of the fin, both in the photo, are sure hard to come by. I do have one found for you though, and it is on page 36-37 of "Wings of Change" by Steve Will. It is of a 409 Sqn bird in formation with a couple of Italian 104s. It has the Vert Fin cleats present and no Lex fences. Early original markings (pre FIP) --no tail number on the nose--could be 188753 Edit: just caught another pic of 18s with Vert tail cleats and no LEX fences-- a four ship of 409 Sqn arriving in Germany circa 1985--in 'A Tradition of Excellence" by Dan Dempsey p
  5. The Canadians used the C-2 seat until '104 retirement ECM close-ups, I don't have, but there is one pic in the Verlinden Lock -on series Tony
  6. Great finish on this F104. I like your use of shading to get a good 3D effect --especially on the landing gear. You, however have the canopy hinged on the opposite side from what it is supposed to be. I wish my painting efforts were half as good as yours---hats off to you Model on !!! Tony
  7. Yes, but HobbyCraft(Fujimi COPY) used/copied a wide chord vert fin from a CH46, not a narrow fin from a KV107--so you can't even make proper Lab from this Lab boxing. Tony
  8. It looks like a Voyageur, (but with a ton of rivets),can't remember if it has its APU tail, I would just make sure I didn't paint over the extra windows that the Voyageur had--at the front quarter below the windshield. look here for a bit of fun; http://hedgehoghollow.com/buzz/walkarounds/voy.html I'm not sure about how the intakes or exhausts look. Others may know more. Tony
  9. Looks to me like that kit has a short-tail pylon ala KV107. No APU though Tony
  10. Short answer is yes, but it lacks the APU modified tail, so only an early Lab can be accurately finished. Voyageurs(similar) were delivered to the Army with the APU fitted but smaller CH46 sponsons. When the Labs and Voyageurs were integrated, the CH113/113a fleet was brought to commonality ie: fuel tanks and APUs. Others may know more (likely) Tony
  11. Yes, the air exits at the top and bottom vents that you can see on the intake. Thats why the vents face to the rear, a couple of recent builds have the upper vent resin piece on backwards. Tony
  12. First model finished in a long time. Almost out of the box, to get me out of a bit AMS. Aeroclub seat used--this would have been one of the first Harriers for the USMC, so it was delivered with a Martin Baker Mk9 seat. MicroScale decals, Humbrol & Gunze paints, Black and Raw Umber oils to weather, Polly S flat coat. The intake blow-in doors are molded closed, so I painted them open. Enough issues with this kit, too many to list, but it was fun and now I want another "almost OOB" to get started on. Cheers, Tony

Just checked those---they were pics of Dutch F86s Tony
  14. Nose of 133604-- a Snowbird support aircraft in the 71-73 vintage--NACA scoops and exit ducts are on both sides of the nose. They are not on T-33s in earlier days. Tony
  15. No, same airframe. Air exit duct on the LH side aft section and exit ducts on the nose doors are the main exterior differences on a Canadair bird. Tony
  16. Looks good, I happen to have the Fujimi AV8-A VMA 531 (same sheet) on the work table right now. Decalling is a pain when the sheet is old and every decal shatters into a zillion pieces. MicroScale Liquid Decal Film to the rescue !!!! Great Harrier, Model On !!!!! Cheers, Tony
  17. I drew my own using Paintshop Pro and printed it out and stuck it into a picture frame. Tony
  18. Bedwyr, our three year old Pembroke Corgi. Had two Corgis before him, and would not ever get another breed. Corgis rule !!!! And yes, he has a tail. Tony, Comox, BC
  19. Another ----fool in a Ninja Turtle mask, of all things. It is loud without a helmet. click
  20. The only exception I can think of ; the Blue Angels wear a clip on microphone versus the O2 mask dudring performance. Low level--no need for oxygen. That being said, Snowbirds still wear the full mask for their shows, so do the Thunderbirds. Tony
  21. CF 18 cockpit is standard CF colour--FS36231 Dark Gull Grey; Model Master 1740; Humbrol HU25, Humbrol 140, Gunze 317; Tamiya XF54. with the upper cockpit deck and coanopy frame flat black Cheers, Tony
  22. Mike, be careful with adding these 'scoops'. 416 Sqn stood down at Grostenquin in Jan '57. The sugar scoops weren't added to Sabres until late '57/early '58 as far as I can figure out with my books and pics. That means your Sabre would eventually get the scoops fitted, however it was with 434 by then. Likewise, European camoflaged Canadian Sabre 5s wouldn't have had any sugar scoops at all. They were replaced by the Sabre 6 first. |The survivors that were given to the Luftwaffe would have had the scoops retrofitted then. Nice to see your Sword finished. Model on !!! Tony
  23. I would've said that the blue is too dark, for the 90s blue flight suit. Cheers, Tony
