1/48 Revell of Germany CL-13 Sabre 6
Snowbird3a replied to AX 365's topic in "On Canadian Wings" Group Build
Mike, be careful with adding these 'scoops'. 416 Sqn stood down at Grostenquin in Jan '57. The sugar scoops weren't added to Sabres until late '57/early '58 as far as I can figure out with my books and pics. That means your Sabre would eventually get the scoops fitted, however it was with 434 by then. Likewise, European camoflaged Canadian Sabre 5s wouldn't have had any sugar scoops at all. They were replaced by the Sabre 6 first. |The survivors that were given to the Luftwaffe would have had the scoops retrofitted then. Nice to see your Sword finished. Model on !!! Tony -

I would've said that the blue is too dark, for the 90s blue flight suit. Cheers, Tony -
Sean, the Golden Hawks program was cancelled in February of 1964-----'63 was their last season. Tony

Get yourself a time machine--set it for 1959 and you may see that happen Tony

Balkan Rat and 439 Tiger meet joint build

On page 68-69 of 'Wings of Change' by Steve Will-- 'Swill'-- there is a pic of Tiger 188764, and the pilot is wearing a tan suit--plain as day. On page 103 of same book--pilot is in the cockpit of '764' in a green suit, and page 44-45 pilot of Tiger 188769 appears to wear a blue suit(could be green??). Page 121 is a squadron shot of aircrew with '764 and Fang the mascot--18 green suits, 9 blue suits, and one olive (British) style suit. So, take your pic, I guess in '92 there was still a good number of green and tan suits still used. Cheers, Tony -
I was given this to build for the local flying school. It was missing the canopy, horizontal stabs, and the plastic was old and weak in the thin spots. It took quite a few years to basically slap together (for a better word). Shape is way off in places, combined with my lack of interest in making it totally accurate. Canopy is a wooden dowel sanded to a close shape and stabs are just sheet styrene. Decals are a collection of Can-Force and others found in the spare box. Tail flag and 409 crest are from the printer on Testors white decal paper. It was a bear to put together and kudo

I doubt it If they carried anything, they would carry fuel tanks at Sta 85, and they would have one on the centerline pylon first, maybe a SUU20 practice bomb dispenser. I've one pic of a Target Dart on the left wing. Not many pics of duals carrying weapons, I'm afraid. Cheers, Tony

By the way, the underside is FS36463 the CF drawings have this as a wrap-around scheme, but it was never painted as one. This info from the Belcher Bits 1/72 decal sheet for CF-116s cheers, Tony

ALF, in all my cross references, I have no Tamiya call-outs for these colours FS35164 is ModelMaster 1720 or Gunze 42 FS35414 ; I have only Compucolor CAC20 FS35109 ; I have only Compucolor CAC22 thats all I got other than the Humbrol colours, I'm glad I cleaned out a closing K-Mart of all its Humbrol back in the early 80's Tony

The three blues in this 'grape' scheme are FS35414, FS35109, FS35164. They are Humbrol HU 14,15,16. wait a bit and I can scan my Canadian Forces schematic drawing for the exact colour locations--will PM you this later Cheers, Tony

The reason I asked is that it looks like Shawn installed his backwards as well. Maybe the instructions are vague in that area, perhaps ??? Tony

Concerning the Czech 1/32 T-33 ,these resin vents on the upper and lower parts of the intake----Are they molded properley, facing rearward as the real ones do. I can't tell by the pics posted, but they do look like they are facing forward, or is the lighting playing tricks on me. Please tell me it's the lighting. Tony

They missed the boat , they didn't kill it. IIRC the boat was attacked later by the USN. I thought we only provided CAP and not A/G missions during that unpleasantness. Tony

The next page(325) in the Milberry book shows a Sabre 6 preserved with a different than Canadair Camo, and it is not the one in the original post. Warbirds Worldwide has the Sabre 6 preserved at El Dorado Airport in Bogota and the # is 2023 vice #2024. Cheers, Tony

All I could come up with is a pic of 104759 in Norwegian service. It was given (sold) to Norway at the same time as 104900. Look on page 49 of the CF104 profile by Bob McIntyre (SMS Publishing) It is in the all-green scheme. However, one can only speculate that it is original Canadian paint and not painted in Norway. also, Cold Lake based 104s were seen in bare metal until the late 70s, so its possible it never made it to the paint shop before being sold. Good luck on your continued search. Cheers, Tony

I have this paint mix and I believe I got it from the old Argus Hobby Shop in Winnipeg; all Humbrol colours #2 Gloss Emerald Green----2 drops #15 Gloss Midnight Blue----2 drops #22 Gloss White------------85 drops #40 Gloss Light Grey-------60 drops it also says for larger A/C--Argus/Aurora---you will need 8-10 times the amount --for smaller A/C--Tracker Sea King---you need 3-5 times the amount Cheers, Tony

Then there's the clown who adds all the aftermarket; Black BoxAvionixTrueDetailsEduard -- 'pit, seat, wheels, belts, bumps, humps, even the machine that goes "ping". And then says "I used this Mark of (insert A/C here) instead of that Mark X, because I'm not concerned with accuracy" Now I feel better, Tony

From the B & W pics in my Chippy book, it's hard to tell, but I would guess as to a British Interior Green. The rear instrument panel didn't get a full compliment of instruments until the aircraft was sent to England for some more trials. Both were sort of 'oval' in shape--rear one only had an airspeed, altimeter, turn and bank, and a compass. The rudder on CF-DIO-X was a little smaller than a production rudder---the notch at the bottom was the result of the rudder gaining some area. Elevators were smalller too, but my knowledge of their shape is not great. Your Chipmunk is looking -

20 years +3 days, but buildin' models way before that started. Tony -
Most aircraft are made from mostly ALCLAD aluminum--NOT Anodized aluminum. Anodizing is a surface preparation, usually identified by a different colour aluminum---hose fittings for example are blue or red or black--that is anodizing. They could have a yellow or grey look to them. Alodining, a close relative, is a surface prep using a chemical process while anodizing is by electric current. Certain parts or fittings or assemblies might be anodized, but structures are usually made from 2024 Alcad. A high copper content alloy (heat treated or work hardened)with a coating of pure A
