  1. I took Jenning's post to mean the actual wheel rim protrudes from the tires on all the model kits --not the axle nut cover I could be wrong though Tony
  2. Shawn, when you do getting around to your next Tutors--those smoke tanks in the Hobbycraft kit scream for replacement or at least re-profiling, the cone shape shouldn't be so small and pointy -if you know what I mean(much shallower angle) I have some leftover bits from the Belcher Tutor and smoke tanks are some of the parts I will be using on my Hobbycraft build. Shoot me a PM and I'll provide you with a few of my own Tutor detail pics from my days in MJ. Model on, Tony
  3. My sincerest apologies to the many fans of the Avon Sabre. A complete oversight on my part. Another apology in advance to the fans of the F86H, as I don't have one in my stash to compare with and photograph. My conversion attempt is a Hobbycraft Sabre 6 which was a copy of the Fujimi, with a few little changes. I am told the Academy is another copy of the Hobbbycraft kit. I don't have one in my collection to display here. Here is another comparison of the various Sabre fuselages And then a pic of the Scobie narrow chord wing with a Matchbox wing and my partial conversion(unfinished)
  4. Bill, Wings arrived on Friday, however it was a camping weekend and I have just opened the package now. They look great, thanks a bunch and I hope I can get cracking on a few projects with them. I saw a review on MM by Tom Cleaver using your wings and they do look the part !!! Tony
  5. Andrew, the fairing was just marked out with a sharpie then a nice little cordless Dremel and rotary stone ground away what was not supposed to be there. The inside of the fuselage gets thin there, so it is backed up with some scrap plastic and super glue. The Matchbox rendition of the F86A windshield is hopeless-- in fact, if this conversion works, I don't see the need for any part of the Matchbox kit. The Scobie wings, when they arrive, will go to another Sabre 2 idea I have--RCAF Fireballs. They are designed for the Fujimi/Hobbycraft/Academy kits. I still have some Cutting Edge V-
  6. FOUND IT !!!! 'Fixing a Fokker' is in Jan 1999 FineScale Modeler. It is an article by Frank L Mitchell. Cheers, Tony
  7. This is not the Aurora kit at all, but of a later vintage than the other Revell 1/28 scale kits. There was an article in FineScale a few years ago that dealt with the inaccurate fuselage shape and incorrect upper wing dihedral. It involved a lot of plastic cutting, but was do-able. I may be able to find the article tonight. Tony
  8. Now, here's the wings all laid out for inspection. The first thing I noticed was the excessive sweep of the Heller wing. Of course I started my conversion before Scobiedoproductions announced their resin replacement wings--I have a couple on order. Thoughts.......comments....... I still have to trim and sand the leading edge of the lower wing of my conversion. The result almost matches the Matchbox F86A wing.....so the conversion forges ahead. I have the early V windshield and a couple of resin copies, ready for this project. Tony, Comox, BC
  9. Folks, during the initial attempts to convert my Hobbycraft Sabre into a F86A, I thought I might lay out a few different fuselages for comparison. I don't know if anyone has done so before or what could be gained from it but here, from bottom to top is: Hobbycraft, Fujimi, Heller, Matchbox, and at the top is my early start at converting the Hobbycraft fuselage to F86A shape. When Hobbycraft copied the Fujimi kit, they foolishly copied the horribly square speed brake shape as well. I like the Heller's overall shape and speedbrake wells but the Fujimi and Hobbycraft's fine engraved lines
  10. The seats aren't or shouldn't be terribly hard to improve with a bit of plastic rod and lead foil here; this should help, and , I have the Wayne Hui mastered set from Uncle Bill's and I want 2 million for mine Cheres, Tony, Comox, BC [Gents and ladies, While waiting for some stuff to dry on my Red Arrows Hawk (for the Demo team group build, lots of putty....and I mean lots of putty...) I dug into my Hobbycraft Snowbirds Tutor. The cockpit is, well, something that needs improving. I'm not going to bother iwth the instrument panel, but am looking for seats. The question therefore is,
  11. Here's a Sabre intake from Hawk One note it is not "welded" but rivetted, and not much of a seam at that Tony
  12. Sean, if you do a 1961 year GH, that would make it a Mk6 not a Mk5-- I use Dan Dempsey's fine book "A Tradition of Excelllence" as my reference. Many pictures of the '61 team and they're all Mk 6's If you see smoke pipes on the outside--that would be a MK6 Tony
  13. Lordish , Bill Scobie at scobiedoproductions@sympatico.ca now offers a narrow chord slatted wing (with separate slats)for both 48 and 72nd in resin. Do a search on Hyperscale and his products will appear in a recent posting The old Italeri kit didnt offer extended slats- they were molded closed IIRC. Tony
  14. Sean, the '61 team flew the Mk6 not the Mk5. The colour pics I see in D Dempsey's book show a lot of grey in the cockpit area, seat, and behind the seat under the canopy. Tony
  15. This is my embarassing OOB Matchbox T7 Hunter As long as the decals were trimmed as tight as possible, they are alright. Tony
  16. In Larry Milberry's Canadair Sabre book, I found many a picture of early Sabre 6s (delivered with Hard wings) with later slatted wings. Yes, this only proves some of them were retrofitted. My guess is all Mk6s were retrofitted at some point in their inspection cycle. James Craik, do you have anything more ?? Vintage Wings Mk5 Hawk One has a Mk6 engine and slatted-40 wings--but were not talking about those ex-target aircraftNow, sorry to hijack the thread--does anyone have a date for the installation of the sugar scoops 57 ?? 58 ??
  17. -40=longer wing Mark 5 = 6-3wing with fence Mark 6 = 6-3wing with slats (and to enter more confusion, the first Mark 6s off the line had the 6-3 wing with fence) Tony
  18. I've found, as a Mig21 newbie, the Squadron in Action #131 'Mig-21 Fishbed' to be a great intro to the many changes in the Mig 21 series. Tony
  19. My two in 1/72 Fujimi with a Tasman Conversion fuselage and free Aero Int'l decals Heller Sabre 4 in Italian Lanceri Neri colours Tony, Comox, BC
  20. Heys guys, Pompeo asked for criticism Pompeo, Your nose gear leg door should be folded not straight. What's with the two panels on top of the fuselage, they don't look like they should be mounted at an angle like you have them. Your pitot tube looks to be mounted with the crank - up instead it should have the crank going out. Maybe its the angle of the photo--I could be wrong. Always good to see someone model a Sabre---now you can flame away at me.......... Tony
  21. Snowbirds, naturally A rare shot of a 13 plane formation, arriving back in Moose Jaw after Abbotsford '91. Note the two non-smoking tankers in the stem of the trailing 4 plane Tony Edmundson, Comox, BC
  22. my contribution- I've got a ton more-just not scanned yet This is a reference check from #6 Andy Mackay's jet over the Comox area Tony, Comox, BC
  23. Triplane F1 102/17 was never painted RED. It was destroyed in Sept when Kurt Wolff was shot down and killed in it. Many changes have to made to make an accurate pre-production triplane out of the 1/28 Revell kit. Serge, I like your finishing techniques and I hope to build my couple of triplanes with such a clean finish as yours ......... congrats...... Tony, Comox,BC
  24. How's this or this from an F-5B Cheers, Tony
  25. Colin, that is the remote indicator of the UHF radio- so the pilot has a heads up view of what freq he is on-Snowbird mod only. Tony
